Folio 400 is a major project to celebrate the 400th birthday of Shakespeare's foundational book, The First Folio, one of the great wonders of the literary world. Published in 1623, seven years after the death of its author, it was the first printed edition of Shakespeare’s collected plays. Without this achievement, we would have lost half of his dramatic work. 235 copies remain today.
The ‘Brotherton’ First Folio will be on display 29 March - 24 June 2023 at the Brotherton Library at the University of Leeds, and on 3 May, Professor Emma Smith, one of the world's leading experts on the First Folio, will be presenting a talk.
