00:00 [Predators and prey fighting]
00:06 Nature is a constant battlefield where predators and prey engage in an eternal struggle for survival.
00:12 From the African savanna to the frozen tundra of the Arctic,
00:16 these battles can be intense, brutal, and often unbelievable.
00:20 They are a reminder of the raw and unforgiving nature of the animal kingdom
00:24 and the incredible adaptability and resilience of its inhabitants.
00:28 Are prey doomed to always be hunted and killed by predators?
00:32 How far will a hungry predator go when it's on the hunt?
00:35 All your questions will be answered as we have piled together
00:38 15 unbelievable battles between predator and prey.
00:42 [Predators and prey fighting]
00:48 Number 15. Lion vs. Buffalo
00:51 Throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, the mighty African Cape Buffalo herds roam.
00:56 Where there are buffaloes, lions are not far behind,
01:00 with confrontations between the two happening frequently.
01:03 A buffalo squares off with a lone lion.
01:06 Sensing the battle is over, the buffalo leaves.
01:08 However, it was a ploy of the big cat all along.
01:12 The lion attacks the buffalo.
01:14 It grabs onto the beast, and the buffalo continues to stab the predator with sharp horns to the gut.
01:20 It's a tiresome match for both animals, with none willing to give up.
01:25 Adult Cape Buffalos are real beasts that can weigh up to 1,900 pounds
01:29 and can move their bulk effectively, reaching speeds of 37 miles per hour.
01:34 In the safety of their herd, they are a force to be reckoned with.
01:38 A lioness makes the costly mistake of underestimating the sheer power of a herd of buffalos.
01:44 The large ungulates trap her in their midst.
01:47 In a series of brutal assaults, they stab and throw the big cat in the air.
01:51 They make sure that the predator has no means of escape
01:54 as they stomp and impale the lethargic lioness to death.
01:57 Crocodiles, hyenas, and of course the African lion are the main predators of Cape buffalos.
02:03 But anytime a predator goes after a buffalo,
02:06 it should be prepared for a fight that can very much lead to its death.
02:09 A male lion decides to take on an adult Cape buffalo on the road.
02:14 It launches its bulk on the ungulate, but the target is rock solid.
02:18 The lion tries again, however this time, it almost gets nailed in the face by the buffalo's horns.
02:24 Sensing the danger, the predator retreats.
02:27 Number 14. Wolf vs. Bison
02:30 Bison are the largest land animal in North America.
02:34 Male bison can grow up to 6 feet tall and they weigh a shocking 2,000 pounds.
02:40 They are massive beasts that are more than capable of holding their own,
02:43 even against the strongest of predators.
02:46 A lone wolf is engaged in a seriously mismatched battle with a behemoth.
02:51 The bison shows the canine who's boss by throwing it around all over the place.
02:55 However, the hungry wolf is persistent and it uses a risky strategy that involves wearing out
03:01 the larger animal. Bison are social animals that can live in groups of up to 100 members.
03:06 Due to their massive sizes, the only predators capable of hunting them are wolves and bears.
03:11 A wolf pack uses teamwork to slow down an adult bison.
03:15 They clamp down on the animal's sides, adding to its weight and trying to slow the beast.
03:20 But the bison is strong enough to keep moving.
03:23 In the chaos of the stampede, another bison rams into the first one, incapacitating its friend.
03:30 When wolves hunt in packs, they are at their deadliest.
03:33 When hunting large prey like bison,
03:35 the pack's strategy is to effectively separate the weaker members of the herd.
03:39 A wolf pack corners two bison on a hill.
03:42 One of the bison flips an unlucky wolf straight into the air.
03:46 Not once, but twice.
03:48 The wolves know that their targets are not easy prey,
03:51 but they remain determined to fall at least one of the two beasts.
03:55 The bison are not willing to give up to the aggressors just yet.
03:58 Number 13. Mountain Lion vs Deer
04:02 Mountain lions are found throughout North and South America.
04:06 They are excellent predators that particularly like the taste of deer meat.
04:11 Here, a mountain lion clamps down on a deer's neck using its massive front paws,
04:16 grabbing the deer's face securely.
04:18 The deer and the puma battle for survival, and it's evident that the victim stands
04:22 no chance as the hungry predator is hell-bent on obtaining a meal.
04:26 Male mountain lions can weigh up to 175 pounds.
04:30 They are big and powerful animals that are apex predators in areas like the Black Hills
04:35 of western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming.
04:38 A mountain lion leaps on a buck and does its signature throat bite.
04:42 But the buck is not one to give up easily,
04:45 and it drags its attacker along a wild ride until it gets exhausted.
04:49 Through it all, the mountain lion remains stoic and stuck to the target's throat.
04:53 In the end, the attacker gets its prize.
04:56 Did you know that mountain lions have around 40 different names?
05:00 The most popular names are the American lion, Mexican lion, puma, cougar, and mountain lion.
05:06 A deer is out grazing peacefully under the stars.
05:09 The ungulate enjoys its meal of grasses and scrubs.
05:13 Yet a pair of eyes shine bright, lurking in the shadows.
05:17 A mountain lion leaps out and attacks the deer.
05:20 It's a one-sided fight as the predator takes the animal to the ground.
05:24 Number 12.
05:26 Bear vs. Bison.
05:28 Bears are omnivores that typically rely on a plant-based diet.
05:32 Plus, they obtain protein from fish.
05:35 But sometimes, they prove their quality as an apex predator
05:38 and go after the strongest prey they can find.
05:41 A young bear grabs onto a bison and wrestles with the large herbivore.
05:46 It's evident that the bison is not having an easy time shaking off the persistent bear.
05:50 Neither animal is willing to give up the fight quickly.
05:54 It's a long battle that ultimately ends in favor of the bear.
05:58 Grizzly bears can get close to 9 feet tall while standing on their hind legs,
06:03 and they weigh up to 860 pounds.
06:06 But despite all this size, they can reach speeds of 40 miles per hour.
06:10 A grizzly is on the hunt for bison meat.
06:13 It chases the ungulates, but they don't let it get close.
06:17 Bears may be ferocious predators, but due to their size,
06:20 it's hard to sneak up on herds as large as these.
06:23 The bear continues to try its luck, but it fails to touch a single bison.
06:28 Number 11.
06:30 Crocodile vs. Zebra.
06:33 Zebras are social animals that typically travel miles in search of water and grass.
06:37 Their search for greener pastures forces them to clash with crocodiles.
06:42 A herd of zebras is crossing a crocodile-infested river.
06:46 They have to get to the other side in order to continue their journey.
06:49 Tens of these creatures cross the river at the same time.
06:52 But the crocodiles are watching,
06:54 and one of the zebras gets snatched by a croc in the perilous journey.
06:58 Unlike horses, zebras cannot be domesticated.
07:01 They are very aggressive,
07:03 and have been known to deliver kicks capable of killing a fully grown lion.
07:06 A crocodile learns the hard way that not all creatures that cross their domain are easy prey.
07:12 The croc moves close to a zebra, struggling to swim across a river.
07:16 As soon as the croc tries to clamp down on the ungulates behind,
07:19 the zebra unleashes a devastating kick that rebooted the croc's brain.
07:24 Crocodiles are not only found in Africa.
07:27 They are also found in some parts of Asia and Australia.
07:30 They are a hardy species that are capable of staying alive for over a year without food.
07:35 However, they do not deliberately miss an opportunity at a meal.
07:39 A vicious crocodile rips open a zebra's behind.
07:43 At first glance, one would think that the zebra was dead.
07:46 But the resilient animal raises its head.
07:49 The zebra is very durable, and with nearly all of its blood lost,
07:53 it still remains conscious and watches as the attacker eats it alive.
07:58 Number 10. Owl vs. Rabbit.
08:01 A rabbit's large ears help to regulate the animal's body temperature.
08:05 They are also very good at detecting the faintest sound,
08:08 making it hard for predators to sneak up on them.
08:11 A rabbit is enjoying the night, searching for something to eat.
08:15 Unbeknownst to it, a nocturnal hunter is on the hunt.
08:19 An owl pops out, aiming straight for the rabbit.
08:22 But the small mammal is quicker.
08:24 It dodges the owl's attack and runs away from the scene.
08:28 Thanks to its senses, it gets to see another day.
08:31 Owls are specialized hunters.
08:33 Their eyes are designed to pinpoint prey.
08:36 Plus, they have unique feathers that enable them to fly silently.
08:40 An unlucky rabbit gets caught by an owl.
08:42 The raptor pounces on its prey,
08:44 sinking three-inch talons into the flesh of the tiny creature.
08:48 The rabbit's fate is sealed as it stands no chance of escaping this situation.
08:52 The owl perfectly carried out its plans, and its reward is a meal.
08:58 Rabbits seldom make sounds, but they are capable of snorting, growling, and hissing.
09:02 And when they feel like the end is near, some rabbits let out a bone-chilling scream.
09:07 An owl holds down a cute little bunny with its sharp talons on a roof.
09:12 The tiny rabbit tries to escape, but it is outmatched.
09:16 Another owl flies down to the rooftop, and the first owl hands the rabbit over.
09:21 The owls are parents, and the bunny is lunch for their chicks.
09:24 Throughout this interaction, the rabbit is still alive.
09:28 Number 9.
09:30 Hawk and Rat
09:31 Rats are highly destructive creatures that no one wants near their home.
09:35 Thankfully, there are many predators like hawks to keep their population in check.
09:39 A rat is creeping along a pavement.
09:42 The rat has no idea that a raptor is locked in and ready to pounce.
09:47 The hawk lands directly on the rat and holds it down with its talons.
09:51 The victim tries to run away, but it only manages to move its body a couple of inches.
09:56 Like all raptors, hawks are experts at catching mice and rats.
10:00 And since they can swoop down and fly off with them to a safe place to eat,
10:04 they typically go for this diet.
10:06 A hawk perches on a post and proceeds to munch on a rat it caught.
10:10 It tears the dead creature's flesh apart and fills its belly undisturbed.
10:14 The predator chooses an elevated spot so that land predators can't interfere with its meal.
10:19 Here, it can consume the rat in peace.
10:22 Just after two days of giving birth, female rats are already on heat and ready to go again.
10:28 They have a gestation period of about 22 days,
10:30 with litter sizes ranging between 5 and 12 pups.
10:34 It's no wonder that rats are found everywhere.
10:37 A hawk catches a large rat.
10:39 It digs its claws into the head of the rat and holds it down.
10:42 The rat fights back, but all it can do is drag the hawk around.
10:46 But the raptor's not daunted, as it remains calm while waiting for the rat to tire out.
10:51 As long as the hawk's talons are buried deep into the flesh of this vermin,
10:55 the predator's in control.
10:56 Number 8. Fox vs. Chicken
11:00 Foxes love the taste of chickens,
11:03 and they have become experts in breaking into coops and stealing these animals from farms.
11:07 A fox attacks a brood of chickens.
11:10 Chaos ensues as the fox immediately proceeds to kill the birds.
11:14 One after the other, the hungry predator continues its onslaught,
11:18 and the cries of the chickens fill the coop.
11:20 The only hope of the birds is for the farm owner to get wind of this brutal attack.
11:24 Foxes are known to kill chickens excessively.
11:28 This behavior is fueled by an attempt to have food security for the future.
11:32 A fox breaks into a backyard and spooks some chickens in a coop.
11:36 The tiny predator searches for a way into the cage.
11:38 It even goes up to the top of the coop.
11:41 The canine does this while the birds are clearly unsettled.
11:44 It looks like these owners properly protected their birds.
11:47 There's no set time when foxes carry out their attacks on chickens.
11:51 They are both diurnal and nocturnal hunters,
11:54 which means their prey can never rest easy, as an attack may happen at any time.
11:59 A flock of chickens is roosting in their coop when a fox finds its way into their home.
12:03 The fox is stealthy, but once a chicken notices the intruder,
12:07 all hell breaks loose as each bird tries to escape the jaws of death.
12:12 Through the chaos, one bird remains perched, seemingly unbothered by the commotion.
12:17 Number 7. Jackal vs. Stork
12:21 Storks are found in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
12:26 They also have an extensive diet and will eat any small animal that can fit in their mouth.
12:31 A stork makes the mistake of letting a jackal grab its neck.
12:35 In this state, the bird is unable to fly away, and neither can it use its beak to fight back.
12:40 It's in a bad position, and the jackal capitalizes on this fact.
12:45 The attacker will not let go of its target. It will persevere until the bird gets exhausted.
12:50 Jackals are opportunistic, medium-sized canids found in Africa and Eurasia.
12:55 They are omnivores willing to eat anything they can get their jaws on.
12:59 A jackal catches a stork and proceeds to battle with its prey.
13:03 The jackal clamps down on the bird with all its might.
13:06 The two animals look relatively the same size, but of course,
13:10 the jackal has more weight, and it uses that to its advantage.
13:13 Number 6. Leopard vs. Warthog
13:17 Leopards are not picky eaters. They have an extensive list of animals that they prey upon,
13:23 and that list includes warthogs. A leopard stalks the entrance of a warthog burrow.
13:28 The big cat bides its time, waiting for its target to peek out of the safety of its home.
13:33 The warthog comes out, and the leopard pounces on it.
13:37 It wrestles for a while with its target, and the warthog's screams fill the area.
13:41 Warthogs are capable of fighting with their tusks, however, their primary defense strategy
13:47 is to flee and sprint away from attackers. A leopard grabs a warthog by the base of its neck,
13:53 and the wild pig fights back immediately. The two animals toss up a bunch of dirt in
13:58 their clash, but with all the warthog's resilience, the persistent leopard is
14:02 still fixed on ending the life of its target. Not only are warthogs very strong animals,
14:07 they are also adaptable omnivores that can feed on a wide variety of food options.
14:12 A leopard wrestles with an adult warthog. The prey fights like its life depends on it,
14:18 and yes, its survival is at stake. The two mammals tussle and tumble.
14:23 One tries to injure the other and free itself, while the other wants to totally incapacitate
14:28 its opponent to feast on its flesh.
14:30 Number 5. Komodo Dragon vs Monkey
14:34 Komodo dragons are the largest living lizards in the world, and they are definitely one of
14:39 the scariest reptiles around. Here, a komodo dragon has a monkey in its jaws.
14:44 The poor creature's fate is sealed once the lizard bites it. Once the prey is appropriately secured,
14:49 the dragon will go on to swallow the primate whole, and all the monkey can do is scream
14:54 in hope for a quick death. In addition to the komodo's size, they are also one of a few
14:59 venomous lizards. This means that with just one bite, the fate of their opponent is sealed.
15:05 Another monkey finds itself in the jaws of a komodo dragon. In the battle for its life,
15:11 the primate is completely losing. Its entire head is in the jaws of the reptile. The monkey
15:17 tries to pull its body out with its tiny arms, but it has no chance against the gigantic attacker.
15:23 Komodos are found on the islands of Indonesia. They are the apex predators of their domain,
15:28 with an extensive diet consisting of reptiles and mammals. A lethargic monkey tries to avoid
15:34 the ravenous jaws of a komodo dragon, but it was unlucky enough to be pulled into the jaws of death.
15:40 Immediately, the big lizard bites down on its target, crushing it while simultaneously
15:45 injecting deadly venom into its prey's bloodstream.
15:48 Number 4. Eagle vs Goat
15:53 Eagles are one of the largest raptors, with the wingspan of most enormous eagles reaching insane
15:58 lengths of 8.5 feet. A hungry eagle snatches a goat and glides down the mountain using its
16:04 massive wings. If the eagle drops the goat, it's an instant kill, and the raptor will proceed to
16:09 consume the flesh of its dead target. It's not unusual for golden eagles to use this ingenious
16:15 hunting strategy. Mountain goats are the largest mammal capable of surviving in high-altitude
16:20 environments. Their bizarre habitat puts them on the radar of eagles. A golden eagle lands directly
16:26 on the head of a mountain goat. The goat fights back by jumping around, trying to get the bird
16:31 off its head. Like a professional surfer, the eagle remains perched, and it will stay there
16:37 until the goat gets exhausted. Once the goat tires out, it's feeding time.
16:42 Number 3. Hyena vs Wildebeest
16:47 Hyenas are not just annoying predators that cause a headache to other hunters.
16:51 They are very much capable of taking down large animals themselves. They just find it easier to
16:56 scare off smaller predators from a kill. A hyena manages to catch a young wildebeest.
17:01 The attacker proceeds to eat its quarry alive. It viciously rips apart chunks of flesh from its
17:07 target's legs. The wildebeest gets up in an attempt to free itself from its oppressor,
17:12 but the hyena drags it back down. At this point, you've probably realized that hyenas are not
17:18 efficient hunters. Unlike lions, they do not grant their prey a swift death. An unlucky wildebeest
17:24 finds itself in the jaws of a ravenous hyena. In a similar fashion as the last video, the predator
17:30 begins eating its prey at its hind legs. This ensures that the wildebeest will not be able to
17:35 escape. Plus, by eating the legs first, the hyena avoids the sharp horns of the buffalo.
17:41 Hyenas typically hunt in packs, and due to the large number of animals in these groups,
17:46 they have territories that will overlap with that of lions. A wildebeest is in the fight of its life.
17:52 A pack of hyenas is after it. The ungulate spirit is commendable, as it's able to shake off the
17:57 predators. But fortune does not smile on the herbivore, as two lions enter the scene. It
18:03 tries to impale them with its horns, but the apex predators make short work of it.
18:08 Number 2. Polar Bear vs. Seal. Polar bears are the largest land predators.
18:14 They are able to maintain their massive size due to a high-fat diet of seals. In this clip,
18:20 a polar bear swims to a floating iceberg, dragging a bearded seal right behind it. It pulls the prey
18:26 to the floating ice platform, where it will begin to devour the seal. The apex predator will enjoy
18:32 its meal in the middle of the sea without worrying about any competitors. Seals are highly adaptive
18:38 to thrive in aquatic environments, and although this is the case, they are still mammals that
18:43 need to breathe air. A seal is seen resting on the ice. The seal fails to notice the looming threat
18:49 on time, and once it does, it rushes into a hole in the ice, but the predator pulls it out. The
18:55 seal attempts to wriggle out of the bear's grasp. However, the bear is determined to secure its
19:00 target. Number 1. Tiger vs. Gaur. The gaur is also known as the Indian bison. They are large
19:08 ungulates that can weigh up to 2,200 pounds. A gaur spots a tiger in the distance. The large
19:15 bovine immediately goes on the offensive and chases the tiger away from its sight. The large animal
19:21 realizes that the tiger's presence is a threat to its life. The stealthy predator leaves the area
19:26 since its location has been compromised. Gaurs have smooth and polished horns that they use to
19:32 protect themselves and also to fight for mating rights. When a tiger's plan goes accordingly,
19:38 you get this masterful display of hunting prowess. The tiger has a large gaur exactly where it wants
19:44 it. The predator maintains its full-on bite to the throat of the bovine. Although the gaur is
19:50 a powerful beast, it's only a matter of minutes before the predator takes it to the ground.
19:55 There is no doubt that tigers are the most powerful predators among big cats.
20:00 They are so powerful that they hunt super heavyweights on their lonesome. A tiger catches
20:04 a gaur and wrestles the behemoth down to the ground. Other gaurs attempt to rescue their friend,
20:10 but none is brave enough to get close to the killing machine. In the end, the tiger kills
20:15 the gaur and feasts on its flesh while the other ungulates abandon their comrade to a vicious death.
