00:00 Now we have attacks.
00:12 Welcome to stage two of La Vuelta a Femenina.
00:16 After Jumbo Visma took a narrow victory in yesterday's team time trial, putting Anna
00:20 Henderson into red and her team mates into the other distinctive jerseys, it's time for
00:25 the sprinters to stretch their legs.
00:27 The Pia's had a chance to recharge their batteries before this 105km pedal from Arejuela to Pilar
00:33 de la Horadada.
00:34 There's only one climb on the menu, although parts of it are steeper than the profile would
00:38 suggest.
00:39 It tops out with just over 19km to go, so that's where a strong rider could have a go
00:44 if they wanted to catch out the sprinters.
00:51 It was a pretty hectic start to the day's action, with plenty of attacks and even a few
00:55 crashes, although they came before the live pictures.
00:58 Four riders eventually snuck away.
01:00 Coralie Demay, Catalina Soto, Urani Blanco and Andrea Casagrande, the youngest rider
01:06 in the race at just 18 years of age.
01:09 But the peloton were giving them very little rope.
01:11 There were also a few nerves in this main bunch, not just because of the early crashes,
01:15 but also due to a slight crosswind.
01:18 The gap coming right down as Demay and Blanco pushed on together, leaving Soto and Casagrande
01:23 to be swallowed up by the peloton.
01:27 The main world teams now coming to the front of the bunch to assert their control and keeping
01:31 those two escapees in their sights.
01:34 They made the catch just before the town of Torremendo, home to a particularly nasty hairpin
01:39 turn.
01:40 Here we are, this is that 180 degree turn.
01:44 Hit the brakes.
01:45 No, and of course we do have that crash.
01:48 Look at the kerbstones there, they're pretty high.
01:52 We have a really big crash here.
01:56 Plenty of riders going to ground, but luckily nobody appeared to have suffered any major
02:00 damage.
02:01 The UAE leader Sylvia Persico was caught up in it, but she got back to the pack with the
02:05 help of her team mate Carolina Cunhaga.
02:09 Next up was the intermediate sprint with six, four and two seconds available to the first
02:13 three ladies over the line.
02:16 Plenty of interested parties then, and it was Femke Markus who got there just ahead
02:19 of her sister Rihanna, followed by the returning Chloe Digerts.
02:23 Rihanna Markus taking over from her team mate Henderson as the new virtual race leader.
02:29 The riders hitting the Puerto de Rabate in its deceptive average gradient of just 1.2
02:34 percent.
02:35 It probably felt like much more than that when Kasia Nowiewia-Doma started piling on
02:38 the pressure.
02:40 The pole from Canyon SRAM doing some serious damage in this front group, but she couldn't
02:44 shift Mariana Vos or Charlotte Cole, two of the big sprint favourites.
02:49 It all came back together then after the summit, everything set for a shootout in Pirat de
02:53 la Horadada.
02:54 And the sprint is starting.
02:57 Rihanna Markus getting to the front there.
02:59 On her wheel is Anna Henderson.
03:01 That is Persico.
03:02 And this is a really interesting attack.
03:04 Is this Chloe Digerts?
03:06 It is indeed Chloe Digerts.
03:08 What a comeback that would be for Chloe Digerts.
03:11 She has to keep on pedalling.
03:13 She's got 100 metres to go.
03:14 She has Mariana Vos going past her.
03:16 And also Charlotte Cole, Mariana Vos or Charlotte Cole.
03:19 Is it going to be Mariana Vos?
03:20 It's going to be Charlotte Cole in the win.
03:23 Mariana Vos in second place, meaning that she is now the... she's not the virtual leader.
03:29 She leads the race.
03:31 Charlotte Cole taking her first Grand Tour stage victory in some style, powering to the
03:36 line ahead of Vos and a resurgent Digerts.
03:39 The 23-year-old has really stepped out of Lorena Wiebes' shadow since Wiebes left the
03:43 CSM for SD Works this season.
03:46 The former speed skater already has three wins this year and she is targeting another
03:50 one tomorrow.
03:52 This is my first big win in a Grand Tour.
03:55 So really nice to do it on the second real opportunity.
03:59 The first opportunity with the second stage.
04:01 It was a hectic final and we knew that.
04:04 So yeah, I was almost booked in but luckily I found the right wheel in the end.
04:09 And it was a really, really long sprint.
04:14 SK made it a really, really long sprint.
04:15 So yeah, it was a hard one.
04:17 Somewhere it was even more flat.
04:19 So let's go.
04:21 Cole taking it ahead of Vos and Digert, who's back on the road after a 14-month absence
04:25 due to various health problems.
04:27 Blanca Vos and Raquel Barbieri rounding out the top five.
04:31 With six bonus seconds at the finish, Vos takes over from Henderson as the race leader.
04:36 But the gaps are still insignificant, only 15 seconds separating the top ten.
04:42 Cole picked up 50 points for her sprint win, so she leads the green jersey standings ahead
04:46 of Digert and Vos.
04:49 And France's Jade Ville is the first queen of the mountains after picking up three points
04:53 on the Poitou de Rabaté.
04:55 As Cole said, it should be another sprint tomorrow on an even flatter day to La Roda.
05:00 So do join us then and thanks for watching.
