00:00 What's up guys? Today we're going to be making an adorable giraffe cake.
00:03 My name is Lori and you're watching The Icing Artist.
00:05 I started off with a six inch round chocolate cake. I went chocolate this week because I was
00:12 feeling, you know, like chocolate mood. I'm going to layer that up with my vanilla buttercream icing
00:16 that I just dyed yellow. And of course, as always, for all the recipes I'm using in this video and
00:22 all the tools that I'm using, I will leave links in the description box below. Now that it's stacked
00:26 up nice and tall, it is time to crumb coat it and seal in all those crumbs. While I ice it, I want
00:32 to say a huge thank you to everybody who has subscribed to this channel. We just reached 875,000
00:39 subscribers. That is amazing. We are only 125,000 away from hitting the big millions. If you guys
00:46 haven't subscribed, I would love for you guys to subscribe. I have been planning so many fun
00:50 things for when we hit a million subscribers and I can't wait to share them with you. But you're
00:54 gonna have to wait. Now that our cake is perfectly iced and ready to go, our, you know, giraffe is
01:00 gonna need some giraffe spots. I wish there was like a giraffe cookie cutter or something for
01:04 this. Because the giraffe pattern is kind of like an odd patterny shape, we're gonna have to like
01:09 freehand this. Using some dark brown fondant, I just ripped off like little blobs of fondant
01:14 and then smushed that down into odd shapes. I looked at a lot of pictures of giraffes when I
01:20 was trying to make these shapes because it's a weird pattern. I then placed the spots onto the
01:26 cake and made sure I left room at the front of the cake for my little giraffe face. Giraffe fact!
01:31 Did you guys know they can run up to 55 kilometers fast? It must be those long legs. And they only
01:37 need two hours sleep a day. Wouldn't that be awesome if we only needed two hours sleep a day?
01:42 I need like eight hours of sleep to function. If I only need two, I can get so much more done.
01:47 For the ears, I just rolled out some yellow fondant and used a leaf cutter to cut out two
01:52 little leaf shapes. These are the easiest way to make ears if you guys want to cheat and don't
01:57 want to like freehand cut them up. Because like come on, anywhere that you guys can get away with
02:01 using cookie cutters or other kind of things that you happen to have, saves a lot of time.
02:06 No one's got time to spend on like making crazy cakes. We all got stuff to do. I then just stuck
02:12 a skewer in the one end and that way my ears will stick out nice and straight and don't just flop
02:17 over onto the cake. Now for the giraffe's horns, which actually aren't called giraffe horns.
02:23 They're called ossicones. I had to look it up. Not even sure I'm saying that right. Anyways,
02:29 we're gonna make those out of brown fondant. Did you guys know the horns/ossicones are actually
02:34 used to protect the male's head when they're fighting? Have you ever seen a video of a giraffe
02:38 fighting another giraffe? They swing their necks around to like protect their territory.
02:43 Imagine people fought that way, just swinging their neck at people. Get off my grass.
02:47 I then continue adding more spots onto the top of the giraffe's head.
02:51 For the giraffe's nose, I just rolled out some light brown fondant and then cut out a large
03:00 circle. I then use my hands to kind of stretch the circle into more of an oval shape because I don't
03:04 have oval cookie cutters. I then just use my balling tool to make little nostril holes. Hate
03:10 that word. Since that's what it is, but that's what we made. I then use my veining tool to make
03:16 a little smirk, you know, a little happy giraffe smile and then place that on my cake. For my
03:21 giraffe's eyes, I rolled out some white fondant. I just cut out two small ovals. I have small oval
03:26 cutters, just not big ones. I did the same thing with the black and then I layered those up and I
03:31 gave them both two little specks of white so they looked really adorable and cartoony. I want this
03:36 to look like, you know, like a young baby giraffe. And that's it. Our giraffe cake is done. I love
03:42 how cute this one came out. I don't know what it is about animal cakes, but they all just look so
03:47 adorable. I love doing them. If you guys want to see more animal cakes, let me know what animal
03:50 you'd like to see in the comment section below. I have already made so many animals into cake.
03:54 If you guys want to see a full playlist, I will leave a link right over here for you. And of
03:58 course, if you guys aren't subscribed and want to help me get to a million subscribers, don't forget
04:02 to hit the floating head that's right over here. As always, don't forget to come back here again
04:07 next week because we'll be making something else into cake. Bye guys.
