Bud Light experienced a significant drop in sales in May, losing its long-standing position as the best-selling beer in the United States. Parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI) sold $297 million worth of Bud Light for the four weeks ending May 28, marking a 23% decline compared to the same period the previous year. Bud Light lost its position to Modelo Especial and recorded $333 million in sales, reflecting a 15% increase from 2022. The decline in Bud Light sales can be attributed to a promotion controversy involving TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney, a trans rights activist, and actress. This sparked a backlash from conservatives, including singers Kid Rock and Travis Tritt, who called for a boycott of the beer brand. In an attempt to distance itself from the campaign, Anheuser-Busch faced further criticism from the LGBTQ+ community, resulting in some bars removing all Anheuser-Busch products from their menus.
