00:00 Hello, it's Ro! Welcome to another Nerdy Nummies!
00:13 Today, I got so many requests for something Hello Kitty, and I've been getting
00:16 these requests for weeks, so I was like, OK, before I start doing creepy Halloween
00:20 stuff, I'm gonna do something Hello Kitty!
00:23 Hello Kitty! I went to Michaels and I found this really cute Kitty Cake Pan, and
00:29 I think it was like $10? I'll put a link below so that you can go order it and
00:33 check it out if you're interested. So, today, we're gonna make a Hello Kitty
00:38 Cake! The things that you'll need today will be a big mixing bowl, electric
00:43 beater, or you can use a whisk, whatever you want, spatula, 1/3 cup of butter,
00:47 a cup of water, 3 eggs, I'm using yellow box cake mix, but you can use any of
00:52 your favorite recipes, just make sure that the cake mix doesn't have anything
00:56 chunky, like large chocolate chips or nuts, you want a very smooth cake batter,
01:01 because we're gonna be using fondant. And, pan baking spray, but you can use
01:05 Crisco or anything else to coat your pan. Let's get started!
01:22 Once your batter is done, you're gonna preheat the oven to 325, and you're
01:27 gonna bake for about 35 minutes. We're also going to grease the Hello Kitty
01:31 baking pan, make sure to get all the corners, and then you're just gonna pour
01:35 in a bunch of batter. Oh, waterfall of batter!
01:41 And then, we put it in the oven.
01:42 So, while that's baking, fun fact, we got a new piece of art in the kitchen,
01:47 you have to check it out. My roommate Dodger ordered this, it's one of her
01:52 favorite artists, two hipster hobbits drinking coffee. I really like it because
01:56 her and I both really, really like coffee, we're from the Northwest, and we kind of
02:00 love Starbucks, so, and they're both hobbits, and we're both really small, so we're
02:05 like, "It's us!" And this one is saying, "It comes in venti?" Oh, I'm so gonna watch.
02:12 So, this is the new fancy piece of art in the kitchen. I was like, "These walls look so
02:16 bare." I used to have Rosie the Riveter over here, but, uh, she fell off the wall.
02:21 I think, actually, day 9, I think he knocked it off the wall and it broke or
02:25 something, I'm not sure. It was on an episode of Nerdy Nummies. This is a
02:28 dangerous wall.
02:30 Cakes readies! To decorate, it looks so cute, it came out of the oven, make sure
02:35 it's had plenty of time to cool, and then I took a cake leveler and I leveled it
02:39 so that it's all the same. And now we are going to frost. I am using a vanilla
02:44 buttercream frosting, you want to use thick and creamy frostings, because they
02:48 really make the best substrate to lay fondant on. The whipped are a little too
02:52 light, and they kind of move around too much, and you're just gonna take a
02:56 glob and frost the entire cake.
03:00 Once your cake is completely frosted, it's time to roll out the white fondant
03:04 and put it on top. I put the fondant on top of wax paper and then I coated it
03:10 with a little bit of powdered sugar so that the fondant doesn't stick to the
03:14 table. Right over the top.
03:17 BOOM!
03:20 And then you're just gonna go along the sides of your cake and push down,
03:24 connecting the fondant to the frosting. Then you just go along the edges and
03:28 cut off the excess fondant. I'm using a little, a rolly cutter and going around.
03:33 Ta-da!
03:34 Here is the white fondant all on top of the cake. And the next thing we're
03:38 gonna do is make a red bow out of red fondant. So now I'm taking the red fondant,
03:43 I'm gonna roll it out just a little, just a little bit. Just a little bit.
03:48 Take a pinch of powdered sugar, just a little. Put it in the corner where the bow is,
03:52 because we're gonna mold the fondant to look just like the bow. Give, give it a
03:57 little *swoosh* *swoosh* to get the excess out of there. And in your face is the best *swoosh* *swoosh*
04:04 way to bake.
04:05 Now we're going to take the red fondant, we're just gonna press it in there. And
04:11 then what we're gonna do is peel it up and it will have that mold in there and
04:15 then we'll cut it out and put it on the cake.
04:18 Don't worry if there's powdered sugar on top of your fondant, because you can just
04:29 take a paper towel and just brush it off, because it's just sugar. Doesn't matter.
04:33 No big deal. Now the final decoration step, we're just gonna add a little bit of frosting
04:38 for her eyes, nose and whiskers. For KittyKat!
04:42 Ta-da! Here's our Hello Kitty cake! She's so cute! I love her big bow! Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum!
