01:44 - John, with no H.
01:51 - No H.
01:52 - Yeah.
01:53 I'm gonna show you a trick
01:54 that you've probably never seen before.
01:57 Notice, before we begin, that this car case
01:59 has a large hole in it.
02:01 It's hard not to notice it.
02:04 We may get to that later on if we need it.
02:06 I don't know if we will or not, but we might.
02:10 And if we do, when I ask you,
02:12 "Do you remember the hole in the box?"
02:14 You'll be able to say, "Yeah,"
02:14 'cause you made me remember it.
02:16 Take any car you like.
02:18 It doesn't matter if I see it,
02:19 but it should be a car that we can see
02:22 clearly your signature on it.
02:23 - Don't use me to weigh you down.
02:26 - It's sort of gone on there already.
02:28 That's perfect.
02:30 All right, and very much like the way this is written,
02:32 across the middle of the card,
02:34 nice and big, just sign your name.
02:36 All right.
02:43 So here we go.
02:45 Stop me if you've seen this.
02:47 Well, take your card and place it
02:49 sort of somewhere near the center of the pack.
02:52 Somewhere down, and sign it.
02:55 The interesting thing about this trick
02:57 is that there's no sleight of hand.
02:59 Often magicians shuffle the cards
03:02 and then move them about
03:03 and then somehow manipulate them in some way.
03:06 This trick doesn't have that.
03:08 In actual fact, it feels like nothing happens
03:10 when the card jumps.
03:11 In fact, with no sleight of hand.
03:13 I'll show you that again.
03:15 Lift off half the pack, and we jump.
03:17 And it goes down and the rest go on top.
03:20 And there's no sleight of hand.
03:22 I don't shuffle them or move them.
03:23 I use the other hand and it jumps back to the top.
03:27 I'll try it one more time.
03:30 Take the ace of hearts and place it
03:32 sort of halfway down in here,
03:33 put the rest in here like this.
03:34 So I'd be estimating that it's probably
03:37 about 30 cards down inside the pack.
03:39 And I start with this and it jumps back to the top.
03:42 No sleight of hand.
03:44 You've seen a trick like this before?
03:46 - Couple times.
03:47 - Yeah, 'cause you look a bit jaded.
03:49 See, I thought I'd invented this plot.
03:52 But it turns out every magician I show it to
03:54 is like, "Oh yeah, I do that trick."
03:56 Here's what we'll do.
03:57 We'll take it and we'll put it face up
03:59 somewhere near the center.
04:03 Somewhere near the middle of the pack.
04:07 And John, do you remember the large hole in the top?
04:09 - Mm-hmm.
04:11 Yep, there you go.
04:11 - Good.
04:12 Well, what the large hole does
04:14 is it allows us to see through the hole
04:22 and you can actually see what card is on top of the pack
04:25 thanks to the hole in the box.
04:27 So with that in mind,
04:30 and the card the wrong way round in the center of the pack,
04:34 we'll lock the box just like this.
04:38 You can see it on all sides, all locked up,
04:41 safe and secure inside.
04:42 Somewhere in the middle is your card with your name on it.
04:47 And remember I said no sleight of hand, right?
04:49 Well, even if you thought I may have been pulling your leg
04:52 in that regard, no sleight of hand proof
04:55 because there's no way I can manipulate them.
04:59 And the hole in the case serves as a viewing port
05:03 through which you'll actually see the card
05:05 come back to the top.
05:06 So here's what happens when I shake it like this.
05:09 The cards actually begin to move up through the cards.
05:12 And eventually it'll make its way
05:14 back to the top of the pack
05:16 and arrive back on top of the deck.
05:20 (laughing)
05:22 Just like this.
05:22 If you look, what you'll actually see is
05:27 it's genuinely look on top.
05:30 Take it out and show it to all your friends.
05:36 - Damn, that's amazing.
05:39 - Thank you.
05:41 And you can check the box as well, can't you?
05:43 I know that you don't trust me.
05:46 Of course you can check the deck as well.
05:48 (upbeat music)
05:50 Hi, I'm Dave Forrest and welcome to Ambitao.
06:08 This is the ending for an ambitious card routine,
06:10 but the gimmick can be used for other things.
06:12 And we'll briefly discuss that in a bit.
06:15 The effect of course,
06:17 is that the deck is sealed inside the case
06:21 and you give it a little shake.
06:23 And amazingly, the signed card or whatever it may be,
06:26 rises to the top of the pack.
06:29 And then of course that card can be removed
06:31 by the spectator and so on and so forth.
06:33 So let's talk about what you have received.
06:36 Here is the Ambitao gimmick.
06:39 This is what you will get in your package.
06:42 It's a little white card that's hinged here
06:45 with a magnet attached here
06:47 and the second magnet, which is red, attached to that.
06:51 And that's the button that goes on the outside of the box.
06:54 Now, before you do anything else,
06:57 you're gonna have to cut a hole in your card case.
07:00 Several ways to do that.
07:02 The easiest way is to take an X-Acto knife or a craft knife
07:08 and use your gimmick and line it up with the box.
07:12 Line up these two leg parts here,
07:16 these two leg parts with the top of the box.
07:19 Then take a pencil and draw a line here and here
07:22 using this part as a guide.
07:24 Just very light pencil lines.
07:26 Then take this away and you want to cut
07:29 like an inch square hole with an X-Acto knife.
07:31 And of course the hole here is circular,
07:33 but it could just as easily be round.
07:35 It plays no part in the method, the shape of the hole.
07:39 So if you just use a craft knife,
07:40 cut a square hole within the confines
07:43 of this part of the gimmick,
07:45 and again, use that as a guide.
07:47 Then afterwards you can erase the pencil with an eraser.
07:52 Alternatively, if you have one,
07:56 this is a compass cutter and it cuts perfect circles.
08:00 It's just exactly like a compass,
08:02 but there is a blade where the pencil usually would be.
08:06 And you spin it around here
08:07 and you can cut the circle that way.
08:10 Either way, you cut a hole in the box
08:13 that will be covered by the gimmick.
08:18 If you place the gimmick over it,
08:19 it should completely cover the hole.
08:21 And when these two legs are in line
08:22 with the top of the box,
08:24 and that's about all that you need to do there.
08:27 So with your hole cut in the box,
08:29 you simply take the little red button off,
08:32 open the box, fold it like this.
08:35 So the magnet here is on the outside
08:38 and the back part is facing uppermost,
08:41 and place it inside the case like so.
08:45 Now take the red button
08:47 and it will attract to the magnet through the box.
08:51 And you can use that to slide the gimmick up and down.
08:54 And this is of course how the whole thing works.
08:58 Okay, by sliding this little red button here,
09:01 that hole will open and close.
09:05 All right.
09:06 One more bit of preparation you might like to do to the box
09:10 is to stretch it slightly.
09:11 And this will allow the card to slide,
09:15 the gimmick to slide easier inside the case
09:17 during operation.
09:20 I don't really find it's an issue.
09:21 Rather what I do is just remove a few cards from the deck
09:24 because I'm not fussed that it'd be a full deck.
09:27 It's an ambitious card routine type thing I'm doing.
09:29 So it makes no difference.
09:31 But yeah, you can stretch the box slightly.
09:34 And the way to do that is to put a deck inside
09:36 and then keep pushing extra cards from another deck
09:39 into the center of the pack.
09:40 And a lot of tension will build up inside the case.
09:43 And then you squeeze it between your hands
09:45 like this in this motion.
09:47 All right.
09:48 And that's a lot more motion
09:50 than what you're ever gonna get
09:51 when there's a full deck in there and extra cards and so on.
09:54 And go easy because you don't want to tear the box.
09:56 But you do this for a bit, maybe leave it overnight.
09:59 And when you come back,
10:00 you should find that the box has relaxed slightly
10:04 and that there's a bit more give in it.
10:07 Like I say, I just remove a couple of cards from the deck
10:09 that creates that extra bit of space.
10:12 You can do it with a full deck incidentally
10:14 because the gimmick is very thin.
10:16 And of course there are two jokers
10:18 and two add cards in a deck when you first get it.
10:21 Now, they're out of the deck.
10:22 So the 52 cards plus the gimmick, there is enough room.
10:26 I like to just remove a couple of cards
10:28 because I just feel that it's more surefire that way.
10:32 And so I like to do that.
10:34 If you don't like either of those ideas,
10:36 worst case scenario,
10:37 you open up the box along the seams with a knife
10:40 and you re-glue it back together.
10:42 But you don't re-glue it flush the way it was to begin with.
10:45 Rather you leave a little gap,
10:47 therefore creating more space inside the box.
10:50 Either way, you can do any one of these things
10:55 to expand the box for smoother operation
10:57 of the Ambateo gimmick.
10:59 For performance, what you're gonna do
11:03 generally is have the deck inside the case.
11:06 So if you push the gimmick into the closed position,
11:09 and we'll call this closed where the hole is covered,
11:13 and you open up, you will see the two legs here.
11:17 And they will act sort of as a guide
11:19 as you feed the deck in.
11:20 So take the deck,
11:22 just use the little legs as a guide there,
11:27 close it up like this, and you're done.
11:30 But better to start performance I think
11:32 with a gimmick in the open position.
11:34 All right, I don't know how well the camera
11:36 is picking that up,
11:38 but I'm sliding it down to the bottom.
11:40 So the button is now at the bottom.
11:42 And were I to take the deck from the case,
11:44 the hole would just appear to be what it is,
11:48 just a hole in the case.
11:50 And that's a good place to start.
11:52 So that is the gimmick installed,
11:54 and you are now ready to perform.
11:56 (upbeat music)
11:59 Okay, so in performance,
12:05 you will start by introducing the deck,
12:07 point out the hole in the case,
12:09 then remove the deck from inside,
12:12 and again, point out the hole in the case.
12:14 Now it's well worth pointing out at this point
12:16 that you can really show quite fairly on all sides.
12:20 If you use the flap and sort of poke it up a bit like this,
12:24 you can briefly flash inside the case, all right?
12:28 Because the reverse side of the gimmick is white,
12:31 and so there's not a lot to see,
12:35 and the flap sort of helps shield.
12:37 It looks, sounds like an empty box,
12:39 nothing rattles inside.
12:40 You can put your finger in
12:41 and poke it through the hole and stuff like that.
12:44 You don't want to overdo it,
12:45 but basically there's a hole in the card case,
12:47 and you want to point that out.
12:48 And also always keep this little button hidden.
12:51 I mean, it is disguised slightly by its color,
12:54 but still keep your fingers,
12:57 as you know, providing a bit of shade there with the button.
13:00 All right.
13:01 And that's it.
13:03 You can leave the box open.
13:04 That's probably a good idea.
13:07 So here's one option for you right now.
13:09 If you've showed the hole at the beginning,
13:12 what you can do is close the case like this,
13:15 and now what I'm going to do is use my fingers
13:17 just to slide that button up until I feel it stop.
13:20 So now I know if I turn the box over,
13:22 it's going to look like there's a deck in there.
13:24 All right, and this sort of pre-sets the gimmick.
13:26 And what you would do is leave it face down,
13:28 do your ambitious card routine,
13:30 and then when it comes time to do the finale,
13:33 it's already set.
13:34 You simply open up and you use, again,
13:37 the little legs being a guide there,
13:38 and you feed the deck in.
13:39 And when you turn it over, it looks as it should, right?
13:42 There's a, there is a, you know,
13:44 because the hole is covered up.
13:46 That's a pretty good way to go.
13:49 However, you can leave the gimmick in the open position
13:54 until such time as you're ready for it.
13:57 And, and what, what that's going to do is,
14:02 it's going to allow you to leave it on the table.
14:05 If anybody wants to pick it up on anything
14:07 during the performance,
14:08 they're still going to see just a hole.
14:11 And what it also allows you to do is to flash the hole
14:14 one more time just before you get to the finale,
14:16 because there is a whole ambitious card routine
14:18 in between you showing, showing, showing them the hole
14:21 and then putting the deck in and going back to the hole.
14:23 So, so you can leave it in the open position
14:26 and that's what we'll do for now.
14:28 So you have a card selected and signed
14:32 and you go through your normal ambitious card routine.
14:36 So again, we've got some options here.
14:39 Option number one is to return the card
14:42 to the top of the deck face up like this.
14:45 All right.
14:46 I'll just leave this box open for now.
14:48 To leave the card face up on top of the pack like this.
14:52 Now, obviously the deck has to be faced down
14:55 when that happens, but that is one way to go.
14:57 The other way to go is to control the card
15:00 to second from top.
15:02 And this way you can show the deck both sides
15:04 before you place it in the case,
15:06 but then you must remove the top card
15:08 after it's been placed in the case.
15:11 But this is my preferred thing to do
15:14 is because I like the fairness of both sides of the pack,
15:17 slip it inside the case.
15:19 And the removal of this card,
15:21 I think is covered quite well by a ruse
15:23 that we'll talk about in a moment.
15:25 So here's your two options one more time.
15:27 You either control the card to the top
15:29 while the deck is face up, okay?
15:32 Like that.
15:33 And then you never show them this side
15:35 before it goes in the case.
15:36 Or you control it to second from top
15:40 and you can show both sides,
15:41 but when it goes in the case,
15:43 you must remove the top card.
15:45 So let's talk about different methods of control.
15:49 Okay, so here's a very simple way
15:59 to control the card to second from top.
16:02 It's a double undercut.
16:03 The first thing you're gonna do
16:04 is take a break above the bottom card of the pack.
16:08 All right?
16:09 So I could do that by buckling
16:11 or by allowing it to riffle off the thumb or whatever,
16:14 but you end up with a break here.
16:17 Now what you do is you take the signed card,
16:21 place it on top of the pack.
16:23 And now taking over that break with your thumb,
16:25 you're gonna kick half the cards into your left hand
16:28 and then place them underneath,
16:29 but maintain the break.
16:32 All right?
16:33 Then take half of all the cards below the break
16:35 and put them on top.
16:36 Then take everything below the break
16:38 and put them on top.
16:39 And it looks as though you've cut the face up card
16:41 somewhere into the pack,
16:43 but in actual fact, it's second from top.
16:46 Now, from a purely purist point of view,
16:48 this is not necessarily a good idea for an ambitious card
16:52 because you're mixing the cards,
16:54 but it does work and it's leading up to a finale
16:56 that's far more impressive and important
16:59 than the way in which the card was lost.
17:02 So it will work just fine.
17:04 So you're gonna take the ambitious card here,
17:06 place it here,
17:07 and you're gonna cut the cards inside like that.
17:11 So you've apparently cut the signed card
17:13 face up into the pack,
17:14 but really it's second from top,
17:16 which is just where you need it.
17:19 Okay, the second method I want to talk about
17:20 is a better option, I would think, in my opinion,
17:25 and that is tilt or the depth illusion.
17:28 And what you do here is you apparently push
17:31 the card face up into the rear of the pack,
17:36 but really you push it directly second from top
17:38 and that illusion works because you take
17:41 what's called a tilt break under the top card
17:43 where it slopes towards the front of the deck like this.
17:46 That's held relatively deep in the hand
17:48 and from the spectator's position,
17:50 the front of the deck looks ordinary.
17:52 You're gonna take the signed card
17:54 and apparently push it into the center of the pack.
17:58 All right, and what you can do there
17:59 is just push on the back of the deck
18:03 and let some cards from the middle come out first
18:06 and then push it into a second position.
18:09 So the illusion is that the card is going in here,
18:12 but really you've just placed it second from top
18:16 and that is another option for controlling the card
18:20 to second from top.
18:22 Okay, now I did mention that you can also control the card
18:25 just straight to the top,
18:27 but it doesn't allow you to show both sides of the pack,
18:29 but the benefit is you don't have to then remove a card
18:32 once it's in the box.
18:34 The way I would do it back to the top
18:37 is via a turnover pass.
18:39 I'll briefly explain the turnover pass.
18:42 This is not really the forum.
18:44 This will also work incidentally
18:45 for controlling it to second from top,
18:47 but for now we'll just talk about controlling it to the top.
18:50 So you're gonna come here,
18:51 you're gonna take a break as you close up
18:53 and then you're gonna transpose the two packets
18:55 as you turn the deck face up.
18:58 All right, we'll look at that one more time.
19:01 The card is placed into the center of the pack.
19:03 You take a break and here's what happens here.
19:06 You're gonna take the,
19:07 you're gonna roll the bottom half over
19:10 and then turn the top half over on top.
19:13 All right, and what you've done there
19:15 is moved the card back to the top of the pack.
19:18 One more time.
19:19 It's here, you have a break.
19:24 You're gonna roll the bottom half
19:26 and then roll the top half like so.
19:30 And that is a very brief and cursory explanation
19:32 of the turnover pass.
19:34 It's in many books, including "Expert Card Technique".
19:37 And if you are not familiar with it,
19:41 don't attempt to learn it from here,
19:43 but rather go and seek out a better source
19:45 like the book I just mentioned.
19:46 Okay, the final control I want to talk about is the pass.
19:50 And this is my preferred control.
19:53 There are a number of different passes you can use.
19:56 I just use a classic pass more often than not.
19:59 Not with no cover, no riffle or anything like that,
20:02 just a straight up classic pass.
20:04 So, and here's how I would handle it.
20:06 I'd place the card in the center of the pack.
20:08 Then you're gonna spread through and show them the card
20:10 and say, "Now how many cards would you say is on top here?"
20:14 And when I'm gonna take the bottom card
20:16 of the right-hand's cards here
20:18 and take a break with my pinky,
20:19 then I'm gonna take clumps of cards like this
20:22 and say, "How many cards would you say
20:24 "are on top of your signed card?"
20:26 And when I look at them for an answer,
20:28 I make the pass and I place the deck inside the case
20:32 and proceed with the routine.
20:34 That, of course, brings the card back to same position.
20:38 Again, I'll give you a brief explanation of the pass,
20:41 but again, if you really want,
20:43 if you don't know it already and you want to know it,
20:44 you should find a better source than this,
20:47 and there are many,
20:48 including Royal Road to Card Magic
20:51 has a good explanation of the classic pass.
20:55 So we're here, take one and take a break,
20:58 then take some more cards.
21:00 The bottom line is, take a break, a pinky break,
21:02 above the card that's above the signed card,
21:05 and then you transpose the two packets like so.
21:09 All right, one more time.
21:11 We're here, like this,
21:14 cards, and then I'm transposing.
21:18 My pinky is lifting this up,
21:21 and this hand is gonna pull this lower half up
21:24 and round a classic pass, just like so.
21:28 And this is the way that I use it.
21:30 So I'm here, how many cards do you think are on top?
21:34 And the instant they look at you to reply,
21:36 you make the pass,
21:37 and that's a pretty surefire way of leaving them,
21:41 and no doubt that the card's in the middle.
21:44 So yeah, that is the classic pass,
21:45 my preferred method for controlling the card.
21:49 (gentle music)
21:55 Okay, so you've successfully controlled the signed card
21:58 to the top like this, or to second from top.
22:01 I'm gonna talk about controlling it second from top,
22:03 'cause that's what I do,
22:04 it's my preferred way of handling this, like this.
22:08 So you've got the deck here like this.
22:09 Now, you have either left the deck,
22:13 the box rather, in a closed position with the gimmick,
22:16 that's open, that's closed.
22:17 So here we've got it in the closed position,
22:21 in which case the next part is very easy,
22:25 'cause all you need to do is open the box,
22:28 and your two little flaps here are gonna provide shade,
22:31 but here are the two legs, all right,
22:33 and I'm gonna use them as a guide, like this,
22:37 and feed the deck inside the case before closing it up.
22:42 And now I can turn over and everything looks as normal.
22:46 Sorry, I wouldn't close the box at this stage,
22:48 it's inside, so let me go back.
22:51 So you feed the deck inside like this,
22:54 and as soon as it goes in, you pull out this top card,
22:57 all right, and you say, "Now look,
22:58 "thanks to the hole in the case,"
23:01 and they see the hole,
23:02 and I'm gonna take this card as though it's a demonstration,
23:05 as though I'm demonstrating with it,
23:07 and if you can see here, there are the two legs,
23:09 all right, you wouldn't show this,
23:10 but this is my view behind this flap,
23:13 and this card's gonna go right over the top of those two,
23:16 all right, so I push down on the back of it
23:18 so it rides over the cutout part of the gimmick,
23:21 and this is an image I like, actually,
23:24 I really like this part, because I say,
23:26 "Look, you can clearly see the top card of the pack,"
23:29 and this has the appearance
23:31 of just an unobstructed hole in the case,
23:34 it's like, "There's the top card, look, you can see,"
23:37 and presumably this is the card under it, of course,
23:39 that is the gimmick that they're looking at there,
23:42 because the face-up card is there,
23:44 but this has been the top card,
23:46 which has come out from underneath,
23:47 and now it's going on top,
23:48 by way of demonstration,
23:49 so you can see the top card of the pack,
23:52 then I'm gonna take this card
23:53 and simply slip it into the centre of the pack, like so,
23:57 and now I'm gonna close the card case.
24:00 So what I have done is,
24:02 in controlling it to setting from top,
24:04 then I've used the cover card by means of a demonstration
24:07 to show that there's nothing funny going on,
24:10 it's almost like an extra,
24:13 you're sort of proving that there's nothing weird happening here,
24:17 it's like, "Look, whatever comes on top of the pack,
24:20 you can see through the hole,"
24:21 and the fact that they see the card going in and out,
24:23 they see it moving,
24:25 it lends itself very well to the routine,
24:28 so yeah, so that's the way I prefer to do things,
24:32 and then, of course, you are set to close it,
24:35 the visor, like so,
24:37 and come back to the top.
24:40 (music)
24:42 Okay, you've controlled the card back to setting from top,
24:50 but what if you've left the case in the open position?
24:53 This is nice because you get to remind them of the hole
24:56 one more time before the deck goes in the case,
24:59 and you just do this sort of thing,
25:01 you say, "Remember, there's a large hole in the case,
25:03 and the hole will prevent anything untoward,"
25:06 and you'll be able to watch through the hole,
25:09 whatever happens, and just as I speak there,
25:11 I've moved it back into position,
25:13 so all I'm doing here, just to give you a brief,
25:18 I'm like this, I'm showing like this,
25:20 now what I do is I turn the box over, like so,
25:23 and I use my fingers to push the flap like this,
25:25 now my thumb will slide this button up
25:28 until I feel it stop,
25:30 so this is the side that they won't see,
25:31 but here's what's going underneath,
25:33 I'm pushing up like this, and I feel it stop,
25:36 okay, but I'm in this position when that happens,
25:38 and it's all done very quickly,
25:40 I say, "Look, there's a hole in the case just here,
25:43 remember there's a hole in the card case,
25:45 and your signed card is right in the center of the pack,
25:48 so you'll know the second that it comes back,"
25:50 and you see, and in doing that,
25:52 I've set the gimmick into the closed position,
25:55 and then I take the deck,
25:57 and I load it in just as normal, as I had mentioned before,
26:02 again, I take out the top card,
26:04 and I talk about how, you know,
26:07 that they can see whatever goes in there, blah, blah, blah,
26:10 and you're set to do the revelation again,
26:14 just a shake, or whatever it is that you want to do,
26:17 and the card has come back to the top,
26:18 so that is the option of leaving it,
26:21 leaving the gimmick in the open position,
26:23 directly before putting the cards in the case.
26:27 Okay, I'm pretty sure that this goes without say,
26:31 but I will mention it anyway,
26:32 let's say you've used a method whereby
26:35 you haven't controlled the card to setting from top,
26:37 instead you've controlled it to the top,
26:40 at this point, you would put the deck down,
26:43 open up the case, and feed the deck inside,
26:47 and then, of course, there's nothing else to do,
26:49 it appears that the top card of the deck is there,
26:53 and, you know, and that's it,
26:55 basically, if you choose not to control it
26:57 to setting from top,
26:58 it means you don't have to remove the top card
27:01 before you cause the ambitious card to rise up once more.
27:06 Okay, let's talk about cleaning up these gimmicks,
27:17 because the really nice thing about the gimmick is
27:21 it can easily be stolen away
27:23 under very fair actions of removing the cards,
27:27 and allowing and handing each piece out for examination,
27:30 so here's how that would work,
27:32 you have just caused the card to rise back to the top,
27:35 and here's what you do, here's what I do,
27:37 I open the box like this,
27:39 and say, look, you see what's happened there,
27:40 and then I move this right back,
27:42 because this is a strong image right here,
27:44 they get to see that, yeah, that is the card,
27:47 that is the very top card suddenly,
27:49 and look, if you do this a little bit,
27:53 it sort of mimics what you've done before
27:55 when you used the top card to demonstrate,
27:58 look, and now this card is on top,
28:00 and it sort of reminds them of that,
28:03 and I think it's a nice visual of the card,
28:07 definitely on top of the pack,
28:08 they, I would pull it out about this far,
28:12 and I'll say grab it,
28:13 and they allow them to take it out themselves,
28:16 and now you're gonna remove the deck,
28:18 and hand them the box,
28:20 so what I do here is I turn the whole box over,
28:23 I put my thumb here,
28:27 and I'm gonna use my thumb to slide the gimmick back,
28:30 and I can see here that one of the little legs has appeared,
28:34 which is great,
28:35 you're gonna just push a little bit further than that,
28:38 okay, so the gimmick comes out to about here,
28:40 then pull the deck out so that it's flush with the gimmick,
28:46 now by pinching one of the legs of the gimmick here,
28:50 and the deck, I can take the,
28:52 the magnet's gonna come all the way out as well here,
28:55 okay, just like this,
28:57 so now the gimmick is underneath here,
28:59 and the little magnets come along,
29:01 and the instant it clears the box,
29:03 you fan them like this, okay,
29:06 then they can examine the box,
29:08 that's the next part of your handout,
29:09 and of course the fan here completely hides,
29:12 as I square up, I'm just gonna cop this away,
29:14 give these a riffle,
29:18 and it's such a small piece that it's easily concealed,
29:21 and it can be dumped in a pocket,
29:23 perhaps as you put the pen away, or whatever,
29:27 so that is how you clean it up,
29:29 let's look at that one more time,
29:31 in sort of more of a actual performance speed,
29:36 okay, so here is the clean up,
29:38 you cause the signed card to rise to the top of the pack,
29:42 open up, pull it out,
29:45 the spectator can take that card and examine it,
29:48 you remove the deck from the box,
29:52 the box can now be examined,
29:54 and finally the deck can also be examined.
29:58 (upbeat music)
30:01 Okay, so some additional ideas for the Ambertail gimmicks,
30:11 this is the first one,
30:12 which would be a colour changing deck,
30:14 you would have a blue pack with a red card on top,
30:17 which will be your force card,
30:19 and all you would need to do here
30:21 is the usual sort of convinces,
30:23 that Hindu shuffle thing,
30:25 where you say all the cards are different like this,
30:28 and they're apparently seeing a lot of red backs,
30:30 and you say all I want you to do
30:32 is to call it stop at any point,
30:33 they say stop,
30:35 you're gonna show them the card,
30:36 have them sign it,
30:38 and then place it somewhere back
30:40 inside the centre of the pack like so,
30:44 then the deck is placed inside the box,
30:47 like this,
30:50 and that's it,
30:51 there is the deck inside the case
30:53 with one card with their signature on it,
30:55 and now of course a shake,
30:57 suddenly changes the colour from red to blue,
31:00 you open the pack,
31:01 not just the top card,
31:03 but in fact every card has changed,
31:05 every card except one that is their signed card,
31:09 so quite simple,
31:11 I'm sure you could elaborate on that,
31:13 and come up with a more complicated routine,
31:14 maybe fling another few backs in,
31:16 make it more convincing,
31:17 but it serves the purpose of
31:22 proving that the Ambertail gimmick
31:24 can be used for other things,
31:25 and here a simple colour changing deck,
31:28 I want to show you my lucky card here,
31:30 it's the Ace of Diamonds,
31:32 I'm gonna use it in a second,
31:35 you can see someone actually signed it,
31:37 I was doing some tricks the other day,
31:38 and I asked someone to sign a card,
31:41 and they just so happened to choose
31:43 my lucky card on that occasion,
31:45 I'm gonna ask you to sign one now,
31:46 if you could just say stop,
31:48 and they do,
31:49 and you've cut the pack,
31:50 and saying just like Fiona signed
31:52 this Ace of Diamonds the other day,
31:53 whenever you sign your chosen card
31:55 the three of clubs,
31:56 so the spectator writes their name
31:58 on the three of clubs like so,
31:59 and that card is placed under their hand,
32:02 with their hand on top,
32:03 you see now let me show you
32:04 how I'm gonna use this lucky Ace of Diamonds,
32:06 I'm gonna leave it the wrong way round
32:08 on top of the pack,
32:09 and place the whole deck inside the card case,
32:13 now there's a large hole in the card case,
32:15 I'm sure you can see it there,
32:16 that there is a hole there,
32:18 and you can see my lucky card through the hole,
32:21 and if you watch very carefully,
32:23 when I wave the deck like this,
32:25 just over your signed card,
32:28 it suddenly changes,
32:30 and now you see a club,
32:31 and it looks like part of a signature,
32:33 and if we take it out,
32:34 we find one signed card there,
32:38 the spectator signature,
32:39 and they lift their hand,
32:40 and underneath of course,
32:42 is your lucky Ace of Diamonds,
32:44 all right so here's another idea,
32:47 using the Amber Tale gimmicks,
32:48 but the gimmick is varied in this occasion,
32:51 what we've got here is a blank backed Ace,
32:54 and I've made it from an Ace,
32:55 and you see here that it's got a bit of a signature on it,
32:58 and that's to match these two duplicates,
33:01 now I've got Ace of Diamonds here,
33:03 and what I've done is I've duplicated a dummy signature,
33:05 the name being Fiona on both cards,
33:08 so that they look very similar,
33:10 and then I've created a gimmick that matches,
33:13 so it has an Ace of Diamonds spot here,
33:15 and I've written part of the signature on,
33:17 and with these you can do this transposition type thing,
33:21 so here is what you do,
33:22 the gimmick goes inside the box as usual,
33:26 like this,
33:27 and that goes on there,
33:29 and it would have it in the closed position,
33:31 okay and the box can be like this,
33:33 then you take the two duplicate cards,
33:35 and they go on top of the pack,
33:37 with whichever card is under them,
33:39 is gonna be the false card,
33:40 so it's good if it contrasts,
33:43 it's also good if it has a central pip,
33:44 like the three of clubs here,
33:46 'cause then you get the change from the Diamond to the club,
33:50 these cards go on top of the pack,
33:51 so you talk about your lucky card,
33:53 and say here it is here,
33:55 I'm gonna use it in a moment,
33:56 and you mentioned that someone signed it,
33:58 the last time you were doing some card tricks,
34:00 and turn it face down and leave it there,
34:02 and saying in actual fact,
34:03 I'm gonna have you select a card and sign it,
34:06 so you cut the deck and hold a break,
34:08 and riffle force,
34:09 so they say stop,
34:10 and you cut your break,
34:12 and now you turn a double,
34:15 and you're gonna have them sign,
34:17 whatever this card is,
34:18 in this case it's the three of clubs,
34:20 so they sign like that,
34:21 and you turn it the double face down,
34:24 and place of course a duplicate ace,
34:26 with a duplicate signature under their hand,
34:29 like so,
34:29 and now comes a discrepant moment,
34:31 but it does fly,
34:33 you pick up the card,
34:34 and as you do,
34:35 and you display it,
34:36 you take a break under the top card,
34:38 you say I'm gonna use my lucky card now,
34:39 and you place it on top of the pack,
34:41 and you're gonna flip the whole deck down,
34:43 onto that double,
34:44 as you say I'm gonna leave that card,
34:47 the wrong way round on top of the deck,
34:49 so you're here,
34:51 you have a break under that card,
34:53 and that's a double there,
34:55 it's backed with this card,
34:56 and you flip the whole deck down on top,
34:59 and in a continuing action,
35:00 that all goes inside the case,
35:05 all right and again you use the little legs,
35:07 of the gimmick as a guide,
35:08 and when you turn over,
35:09 it looks good,
35:12 because there is the ace of diamonds,
35:14 with part of the signature on it,
35:15 and you can see now that all you have to do,
35:17 is affect the Amber Tail gimmick,
35:19 make the change happen,
35:21 and you're gonna get this signed card transposition,
35:23 between your lucky ace of diamonds,
35:25 and apparently they're three of clubs,
35:27 so you shake,
35:28 and lo and behold that card does change,
35:30 to the three of clubs,
35:32 and you open up,
35:33 and there's the same card,
35:34 you can take the deck out,
35:35 and when they turn over,
35:36 they find the ace of diamonds,
35:38 with the signature of someone,
35:41 who previously watched the trick on it,
35:43 and that is just another idea,
35:45 with the Amber Tail gimmicks,
35:48 okay one further idea,
35:49 with the Amber Tail gimmicks,
35:50 that occurred to me would be the use of a coin,
35:53 and the idea would be that you would introduce the coin,
35:56 borrow the coin,
35:57 have them sign their name on it,
35:58 then have a card selected,
36:00 have them sign their name on that,
36:02 and the thing that is causing the card,
36:06 to rise to the top is the coin,
36:08 so it's a standard ambitious card routine,
36:09 you put it in the middle,
36:11 they place their coin on top,
36:12 and snap,
36:13 and the signature is something about the signature,
36:14 is what's causing the card to continually rise to the top,
36:18 so there's some sort of relationship,
36:20 between the signed coin,
36:21 and the signed card,
36:23 now of course you would finish this routine,
36:25 by getting set for Amber Tail in the normal way,
36:29 as we've already discussed,
36:30 place the deck in the box,
36:32 and do the whole bit about the top card,
36:35 and you can see there the top card,
36:37 and all this stuff,
36:39 their card is definitely in the middle,
36:41 or so they think,
36:42 and that's it,
36:44 and then you place the coin on here,
36:46 and I'd really like the idea of this happening,
36:49 apparently outside your control,
36:50 and the coin allows this to happen,
36:52 because it delays the moment,
36:53 that the card comes to the top,
36:56 so I would place the coin right in the hole,
36:58 and snap,
36:59 and lift up,
37:00 and nothing has happened,
37:02 I say we'll try one more time,
37:04 perhaps it'd be better if you were in contact,
37:06 slide the box over to them,
37:09 and ask them to place their finger on their coin,
37:12 now as I've slid the box,
37:13 I've activated the gimmick,
37:15 I've pulled it to the side,
37:16 so now when they lift the coin,
37:17 they're gonna see,
37:18 so it's this,
37:19 it hasn't worked,
37:20 this goes here,
37:21 maybe if you were in contact with it,
37:23 place your finger on the coin,
37:24 they do,
37:25 snap,
37:26 and this is completely outside your control,
37:29 the deck's locked in the case,
37:31 lift the coin,
37:32 and they do,
37:33 and amazingly,
37:34 underneath the coin,
37:35 they now find their signed card,
37:37 and of course,
37:38 as is the nature of the thing,
37:39 they can now check,
37:40 the signed card has risen back to the top of the deck,
37:45 I think this coin idea is a nugget of gold,
37:46 I'm sticking it on the end of the DVD here,
37:49 because I think it's a great routine,
37:51 and a great potential,
37:53 so there you go,
37:54 that's the coin idea.
37:56 Okay, that's all from me for now,
38:05 I do hope you like Ambateo,
38:06 I think it's one of the better things
38:08 I've ever come up with,
38:09 I think it's a really nice ending
38:11 to the ambitious card routine,
38:12 that locked inside the card case,
38:14 you know,
38:15 and they get to still see it come to the top,
38:17 I think it's pretty strong stuff,
38:19 and I hope you agree,
38:21 my name's Dave Forrest,
38:22 thank you again for purchasing this product,
38:25 if you haven't stopped by my website,
38:26 please do,
38:27 www.full52.com,
38:28 that's all from me for now,
38:32 I will see you next time.
38:34 [MUSIC PLAYING]
