00:00 Wind speeds reached 145 kilometers per hour and along with heavy rains
00:06 paralyzed the Netherlands also claiming two lives. In the Amsterdam region a 51
00:12 year old woman killed in her car when a tree fell and in neighboring Germany a
00:18 pedestrian was killed in the border town of Riede.
00:22 Well I saw those trees fall down. I do think the storm was really concentrated
00:27 here. The woman who died was just around the corner. Storm Polly grounded 400
00:34 flights out of one of Europe's main air transport hubs Amsterdam Airport and
00:38 trains came to a standstill. After tearing through Germany storm Polly
00:44 tore down trees and upended vehicles in the Amsterdam region of the Netherlands.
00:49 Authorities issued an alert on residents phones asking inhabitants to stay home
00:54 as far as possible and traffic authorities called on residents to avoid
00:58 driving on the roads strewn with debris. The alert level was scaled back early
01:03 afternoon and cleanup began. With the highest wind speeds ever recorded in a
01:08 summer storm in the Netherlands it's a historic day.
