00:00Floodwaters sweep through this province in western Yemen, where they've destroyed dozens
00:05of homes in recent days.
00:07In al-Mahwit, west of the capital Sanaa, heavy rains prompted landslides that have killed
00:12more than 20 people, according to a UN agency, and left more than a dozen missing.
00:18A disaster occurred that we have never witnessed in our lifetime, a catastrophe unlike anything
00:25we have seen before.
00:26It rained with thunder and lightning, and we found ourselves surrounded between two
00:30mountains, one on the right and one on the left.
00:33We became trapped with complete landslide around us.
00:39According to the United Nations Population Fund, more than 1,000 families have been affected
00:43by the floods in recent days.
00:46Some residents here in Abs, further north, have lost everything.
00:51Heavy rains caused the house to collapse on us.
00:54Our food, clothes and belongings were drowned by the heavy rain.
00:57No one paid attention to us, neither organisations nor anyone looked at us.
01:01The house collapsed on our heads.
01:05Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis, who control the capital, as well as some northern and
01:08western areas including al-Mahwit, said earlier in the week they had started to provide food
01:13and shelter to those affected.
01:16Rescue efforts, meanwhile, have been complicated by road closures resulting from the floods.
01:21The change is increasing the intensity of seasonal rains in the Yemeni highlands and
01:25the current monsoon season has been particularly devastating.
01:30Since late July, flash flooding has left dozens dead and impacted more than 260,000 across
01:35the country.
