00:00 At dawn, the extent of the damage comes to light.
00:03 The roofs are gone, turned to rubble,
00:06 entire apartments blown to bits in the night
00:08 by a Russian missile attack.
00:10 On site, Lviv's mayor said some 60 apartments were damaged
00:14 and nearly just as many cars.
00:17 Rescue workers continue to sift through the broken blocks
00:19 of concrete, looking for survivors and victims.
00:24 "People have been dug out from under the rubble.
00:26 We're organizing all the necessary help.
00:29 The situation is very complex.
00:31 As you can see, there is very serious damage.
00:33 We'll have to start repairing as soon as rescuers
00:35 finish their work."
00:37 On social media, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
00:40 published these drone images, saying the attack
00:43 was a consequence of Russian terrorists
00:45 and that there would be a tangible response,
00:47 a defiance repeated by the regional governor.
00:51 "As you can see, Russia's ultimate goal
00:53 is to destroy the Ukrainian nation.
00:55 But this war will go on until the last Ukrainian is standing.
00:58 We will win.
00:59 We will overcome."
01:02 Located in Western Ukraine, just 70 kilometres
01:05 from the Polish border, such attacks are rare in Lviv.
01:08 The last major bombing in the region dates back to March.
01:11 Home to over 700,000 before the war,
01:13 the city quickly became a place of refuge
01:16 for thousands of Ukrainians escaping fighting further east.
01:20 With this attack, the worst in Lviv's history,
01:23 according to the mayor, that sense of safe haven
01:26 has been shattered.
