00:00 Filipinos ready to strike their finest pose to get a chance at a modeling contract.
00:05 We find out about the Model Rev competition with project head and co-founder Ann Kolas
00:10 and I am agency CEO and founder Mae Flores.
00:17 Ladies, thank you so much for joining us in the final word.
00:20 Thanks for having us.
00:21 Well, congratulations on this new modeling search competition called the Model Rev.
00:27 Ann, let me start off with you.
00:28 You're a Binibining Pilipinas winner, Miss Globe International 2015 winner.
00:35 Why did you decide to organize the Model Rev competition?
00:42 Well, to create opportunities for undiscovered talents, to provide a platform for them to
00:48 jumpstart their career.
00:50 You know, as you've mentioned, at a very young age of 22, from Pampanga to Manila, I took
00:56 the opportunity to join Binibining Pilipinas and I'm so blessed that I'm one of the winners
01:02 and eventually paved the way for me to win the first Miss Globe title for our country.
01:09 And that changed my whole life.
01:11 Your life.
01:12 Yes, exactly.
01:13 And that's how we met.
01:14 Exactly.
01:15 When you were co-judges last year, the Binibining Pilipinas.
01:16 But of course, I'm curious, why do we still have to set up Model Rev when we already have
01:20 a lot of these beauty competitions?
01:23 Because when I was modeling abroad, I saw that there's only a few representations of
01:28 Filipino models.
01:30 And I was like, we have a lot of internationally acclaimed artists, Filipino talents, and that's
01:37 why we created the Model Rev, because we want to be the stage to showcase Filipino models,
01:44 beauties, talents.
01:46 Absolutely.
01:47 And not only locally, but internationally.
01:49 So what is the goal, May, of the Model Rev competition?
01:54 The heart of the Model Rev is really a revolution.
01:57 It aims to discover and cultivate a new breed of model superstars.
02:03 Launch their career, not only here in the Philippines, but also abroad.
02:07 And you've had the IM Modeling Agency since 2005.
02:11 You've been bringing models here from overseas and you've also brought Filipino models to
02:16 the international stage.
02:17 I actually founded and started IM Agency back in 2005.
02:22 And since that time, it has been our mission to discover and bring in fresh, new talents
02:30 and faces to the industry, and to empower them to grow in this career and to create
02:37 spaces and opportunities for them to shine.
02:39 So the Model Rev is actually a commitment to that mission.
02:43 That's why we're here now.
02:44 And you have modeled internationally.
02:47 How accepted is the Filipino beauty on the international modeling stage?
02:52 Well, I believe there is a clamor right now for Asian talents.
02:56 And there is a market for Filipino artists and models.
02:59 And I think we are coming to this stage that this is the time.
03:05 We need representation.
03:07 This is the moment.
03:08 This is the time.
03:09 This is the moment.
03:10 Yes, yes, yes.
03:11 Yeah.
03:12 We need a representation.
03:13 And we're setting up the global stage for Filipino models to be showcased.
03:17 Because we are talented and we have the beauty.
03:21 So we just need a platform and opportunity.
03:26 And this Model Rev, Model Revolution, is this open for both male and female models?
03:33 Well, everyone is welcome.
03:35 Male, female, curve models, non-binary.
03:42 The Model Rev really fosters diversity and inclusivity.
03:46 And we want everyone to have equal representation.
03:49 And I was talking yesterday to one of our Miss Saigon stars, Joanna Ampil.
03:54 And she says even the Miss Saigon stage right now is gender fluid.
04:01 Everyone playing different roles.
04:03 She plays the engineer, which is a predominantly male role.
04:08 Really, you want to create a community that is inclusive and diverse and Filipino talent
04:15 represented.
04:16 And you're now on a casting tour nationwide.
04:20 Where have your stops taken you so far, Anne?
04:23 When we first launched the Model Rev, it's solely an online application.
04:27 So the aspiring models can apply online via the Model Rev website.
04:31 And then we actually did our first casting tour in Pampanga.
04:35 And we went to Cebu.
04:37 And then now we're going to circle back to Makati this coming July 27.
04:42 And tell us, you've been to Pampanga, you've been to Cebu.
04:46 How has the reception been there May?
04:48 Actually, this is our first season for the Model Rev.
04:52 And the response is actually amazing.
04:56 So since we launched the Model Rev in May, there are about a thousand online submissions
05:02 already.
05:03 A thousand?
05:04 That's why we thought of going closer to key cities in the Philippines to conduct the casting
05:09 tour.
05:10 And see them up front.
05:11 See them up front.
05:12 And see their personalities and characters.
05:13 That's correct.
05:14 So as Anne mentioned, we recently just finished the casting tour in Pampanga and Cebu.
05:20 And the response is amazing.
05:23 There are a lot of young people who came.
05:25 And interestingly enough, it's a model casting.
05:28 It's a go-see for models.
05:30 But of course we have to interview them and get to know more about their personality.
05:34 And when we asked them about their other hobbies or talents, most of them would say that they
05:40 could sing, they could dance.
05:42 And they're not shy to showcase their talents.
05:45 Well, Filipinos are never shy.
05:46 When we asked them to sing, when we asked them to sing as young as 14-year-old, they
05:49 would just give us a show.
05:52 So there's no age limit?
05:54 For the model rep, there is an age limit.
05:56 From 14 up to 20.
05:57 14 until?
05:58 14, 15 to 27 years old.
06:02 So you can even start your modeling career at a very, very young age.
06:06 But what kind of X factor, Anne?
06:08 I mean, you're a model, you're a beauty queen.
06:10 What X factor are you looking for from these contestants?
06:16 We are looking for talent, greed, and beauty.
06:20 We want someone who owns their individuality and embraces their unique form.
06:26 Basically, just celebrating your unique you, and that's what we want.
06:30 So 14 to 20 plus, is there a certain height requirement?
06:36 Actually for the local, there's no height requirement.
06:38 As Anne said, everyone is welcome.
06:41 But considering our international partners, there is some height consideration.
06:46 So when will you be ending this casting tour?
06:49 We are ending the casting tour on July 28th.
06:53 Actually we are ending also the online submission on July 28th.
06:57 Okay, July 28th.
06:58 And for everyone who's here in Makati, the next stop of the model rev.
07:03 Our next stop will be in Makati.
07:05 It's going to be on July 27th, actually at Siren Studios in Makati.
07:10 But we will announce it, we'll give you more updates on our social media pages.
07:16 And how many Filipino models are you planning to whittle it down for Season 1?
07:23 Yeah, for Season 1, for a thousand submissions and model applications, we plan to shortlist
07:29 the top 24 model aspirants.
07:32 And the top 24 model aspirants will go through a comprehensive modeling workshop by Wabi
07:38 Talent Academy, where they will learn the essentials of modeling like how to pose, how
07:44 to walk.
07:45 How to turn.
07:46 Yes.
07:47 How to pose in front of camera and how to do acting also in commercial television.
07:54 So when will Season 1 be coming out and what are the prices for the winners, Anne?
07:59 It will commence first week of September.
08:02 We will announce it via social page.
08:05 So via our social page.
08:07 We will definitely have you back when you launch Season 1.
08:10 Yes, yes.
08:11 We will definitely.
08:12 The winners will have guaranteed projects worth 250,000 and contract under IM Agency
08:18 and will have media features, beauty and fashion editorial.
08:24 And also we have a partnering agency in New York, which is One Management.
08:29 So they will grant visa sponsorships in New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, London, and
08:35 then international placements in Asia.
08:37 Wow, this is fantastic.
08:39 Yes, it's huge.
08:40 Right?
08:41 It's huge.
08:42 So there will be a male winner and a female winner or will there just be one winner?
08:47 There will be various winners actually.
08:49 We will do like considerations for male, female, the curves and the non-binary division.
08:59 So there will be various winners, not just one.
09:02 Representing each of this beauty and form.
09:07 Wow, congratulations.
09:08 And looking forward to Season 1 this coming September for the Model Rev competition Season
09:16 1.
09:17 All right, thank you so much for joining us, Ann Collis and May Flores.
