00:00 The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex may live over 5,000 miles apart, but the way
00:04 they are raising their kids is so similar.
00:14 When Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down as senior members of the Royal
00:18 Family and relocated to America, they sought a very different life to the one they had
00:30 in the UK.
00:31 Harry and brother Prince William may have many differences of opinion, exacerbated by
00:32 the Duke of Sussex's tell-all book spare in which he laid open many family secrets including
00:33 alleged physical fights between himself and his brother.
00:34 However, there is one area in which the pair are in agreement, the way in which they are
00:53 bringing up their kids.
00:54 Both brothers benefited from their mum Princess Diana's insistence that her royal sons were
01:05 raised to live as normal a life as possible, and both William and Harry are on the same
01:10 page when it comes to continuing her legacy with their own children.
01:13 Here are the major parallels with how William's three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte
01:25 and Prince Louis and Harry's two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are being
01:29 brought up.
01:30 A normal life away from the media.
01:31 Prince William and Princess Kate relocated to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor last summer.
01:32 This gives their children a chance to roam a little more freely than they could in the
01:57 city when they resided at Apartment 1A inside Kensington Palace.
02:03 Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made no secret of the fact that they made their US
02:12 move in order to live a more private life away from the spotlight, not happy with how
02:16 the British press treated them when they lived in the UK.
02:20 A rural upbringing.
02:22 Both families have a strong connection to nature and the great outdoors, possibly due
02:31 to William and Harry's many childhood years spent on outdoor pursuits at Balmoral Castle.
02:44 The Wales family often get stuck into bike riding, sailing, hiking and skiing with their
02:48 children.
02:49 Over in Montecito, the Sussexes' estate is also perfectly positioned for them to embark
03:01 on many outdoor activities such as hilltop hiking.
03:11 Their Netflix docuseries also showed other outdoor pastimes like feeding the chickens,
03:16 playing football and touring their seemingly never-ending gardens.
03:26 Quality time with their kids.
03:28 As working royals, William and Kate have busy work schedules, but they try their best to
03:32 work their official engagement schedule around school drop-off and pick-up where possible.
03:44 Hello's royal reporter Emily Nash explains, "Whenever possible, William and Kate time
03:49 their engagements to allow them to take their children to school and put them to bed, even
03:53 on tours."
03:54 Similarly, Harry and Meghan have a focus on spending quality time with their kids.
04:12 When the Duchess penned an open letter to members of the United States Congress in support
04:16 of a comprehensive paid leave program for new parents, she revealed their dedication
04:20 to raising their children.
04:29 The Suits actress wrote, "In June, my husband and I welcomed our second child.
04:34 Like any parents, we were overjoyed.
04:43 Like many parents, we were overwhelmed.
04:45 Like fewer parents, we weren't confronted with the harsh reality of either spending
04:49 those first few critical months with our baby or going back to work.
05:00 We knew we could take her home, and in that vital, and sacred, stage, devote any and everything
05:05 to our kids and to our family.
05:14 We knew that by doing so we wouldn't have to make impossible choices about child care,
05:18 work, and medical care that so many have to make every single day."
05:22 A focus on manners.
05:30 There is no doubt that the royal cousins will be brought up with the most impeccable manners.
05:42 We've recently seen Prince William prompt his youngest son Prince Louis to shake hands
05:46 with staff during a visit to the Royal International Air Tattoo in Fairford.
05:57 In Meghan Markle's interview with The Cut, she revealed that manners were also a key
06:01 parenting focus for them.
06:09 Alison joined the family on the school run, and wrote, "During the ride, she wrote, 'If
06:15 he/Archie/forgets to say please or thank you, Meghan reminds him of the manners that make
06:20 the man.'
06:28 Sweet family time with grandparents.
06:30 Both the Wales children and the Sussex kids are fortunate enough to have their grandparents
06:34 around to help.
06:42 Carol and Michael Middleton live really close to William and Kate, in nearby Berkshire and
06:46 so they are heavily involved in raising the young royals.
06:56 It is believed the three children also spend time with King Charles and step-grandmother
07:00 Queen Camilla.
07:08 Meghan Markle's mother Dory Aragland also plays a major part in her grand-children's
07:12 life, as was evident in the Netflix show when we saw her join in with lots of family fun.
07:21 However, given their location, Archie and Lilibet do not get to visit their UK grandparents
07:29 often.
07:37 How has Prince William and Prince Harry's upbringing shaped them?
07:40 Hello!
07:41 spoke to family psychotherapist, Fiona Yassin, founder and clinical director at the Wave
07:46 Clinic and she decoded their parenting by King Charles and Princess Diana.
