Assistant Features Editor Laura Reid looks at what's going on in the week ahead.
Transcript
00:00 Hi, I'm Laura Reid, the Assistant Features Editor at the Yorkshire Post, and here's a
00:05 look at what's coming up in the week ahead.
00:08 So around 70 cyclists are set to ride 280 miles from Yorkshire to London this week to
00:14 remember the former Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox, who was murdered seven years ago.
00:19 The annual Jo Cox Way ride is now in its eighth year and it aims to keep her legacy alive
00:24 by bringing communities together and supporting causes that were important to her.
00:29 The cyclists will set off from Cleckheaton in the constituency on Wednesday and are due
00:33 to reach London on Sunday.
00:38 In television, the country's hospitality industry is becoming the focus of a new TV show this
00:43 week, a BBC Two series with chef Tom Cowidge.
00:47 He's the proud holder of three Michelin stars and he's going to be lifting a lid on the
00:52 industry in his new show, The Hidden World of Hospitality, which starts on Thursday.
00:57 He'll be giving a glimpse of the skills and passion of people behind UK pubs, restaurants,
01:03 hotels, breweries, chip shops and more.
01:07 And as well as exploring the passion and drive that unite these people, he'll also be shining
01:12 light on issues such as how the cost of living crisis and rising bills is having an impact.
01:22 Closer to Yorkshire, more than 20 years after Hull's first Pride event took place, the city
01:28 will stage its celebration of the LGBTQ+ community again on Saturday.
01:35 Pride in Hull is about celebrating diverse genders and sexualities and fighting for progress
01:40 and acceptance.
01:41 On the same day, the picturesque Yorkshire Dales village of Grassington will hold its
01:46 first ever Pride event.
01:48 Activists say it exemplifies the village's unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive
01:52 and accepting community that values every individual.
01:58 And more strike news again.
02:01 Some members of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union are set to stage a walkout on Saturday
02:05 in their long-running dispute over paid jobs and conditions.
02:09 The RMT General Secretary said the latest phase of action would show the country just
02:14 how important the railway staff are to the running of the industry.
02:18 Last week, new figures from the Rail Delivery Group suggested that since the first RMT strike
02:22 in June last year, industrial action had cost the sector around £620 million.
02:29 A statement said that the action had stalled the sector's post-pandemic recovery and threatened
02:33 its long-term sustainability.
02:35 So there's likely to be disruption on services across the country on Saturday while that
02:41 strike takes place.
02:42 Thank you.
