Angus Smith wins North District 5K Championship in Inverness
Transcript
00:00 North District Champion?
00:02 Yeah, first one.
00:03 First time you've won it, so quite an honour.
00:05 Yeah, very much an honour.
00:06 I don't think I've ever won it as a junior,
00:08 so first time as a senior as well, so pretty happy with that.
00:11 What was your winning time?
00:12 15.16.
00:14 Is that what you were aiming for?
00:15 Yeah, kind of pacing it for about 15.10,
00:18 hoping to get close to the 15 minute mark,
00:20 but yeah, I can't complain, it's a PB.
00:22 How did you find the conditions?
00:24 I quite like the rain.
00:26 It did make some of the corners a wee bit slippy,
00:28 but I'm not sure how much that actually affects the time.
00:31 There's not many major events up here to race in,
00:34 so it must be quite nice to come home and take part in such an event,
00:38 let alone win it, you know?
00:39 Yeah, it's a really good atmosphere here.
00:41 The community in Inverness is great for running.
00:44 It's just a shame there's not as much racing,
00:46 but yeah, lots of people cheering us on,
00:48 and yeah, it's good to see that.
00:50 You're a member of the Inverness Harriers.
00:52 How long have you been a member of the club?
00:54 I've been a member of the club for 11 years,
00:56 and as soon as I turned 9, that's when the age-end started.
00:59 I was right in there.
01:00 Good stuff.
01:01 And what's your plans for the rest of 2023?
01:04 So I'm more focusing on 1500m track racing.
01:07 So a miler meet next Friday in Glasgow,
01:10 and then senior Scots Champs start of August,
01:14 so I'll try and make the final in that.
01:16 Do you see a career more in track rather than cross-country perhaps?
01:20 I mix of both, really.
01:22 I just enjoy racing, so a bit of both, yeah.
