00:00 In Nigeria, the National Association of Resident Doctors has directed its members to embark
00:05 on an indefinite strike beginning Wednesday, July 26.
00:08 This development is coming less than 48 hours after the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
00:13 Tahudin Abbas, pleaded with the doctors for understanding and pledged the new administration's
00:17 commitment to addressing their concerns.
00:20 The NAR president said the decision to start the indefinite strike was taken during the
00:25 Association's July National Executive Council meeting in Lagos.
00:29 He said further details will be communicated soon.
00:32 On May 17, the doctors started a five-day warning strike following the failure of the
00:36 Nigerian government to meet its demands.
00:39 The Association had in January issued an ultimatum to the government to resolve issues affecting
00:44 its members, including the immediate implementation and payment of the new hazard allowance and
00:49 arrears.
