This year, Ian Woosnam, Colin Montgomery and plenty of others take on the course at the Royal Porthcawl, in front of thousand of fans from Wales and around the world.

00:00 Yeah, it's always great to have a major tournament in Wales and we've had the Ryder Cup, we've
00:06 been here a couple of times, it's a great spot. Let's hope the rain does go over a little
00:12 bit. Well it's an easy place to get to really if you think about it, straight down the M4
00:17 or M5 coming from everywhere really, it's just over a couple of hours from London and
00:23 it's a pity that Wales, you've got Scotland, you've got Ireland, you've got England, Wales
00:28 is missing out a bit on the golf a little bit. We have some fantastic golf courses and
00:32 hopefully people will try and come and spend more time over here. Yeah, I mean, obviously
00:36 my first event, so I live about 40 minutes away from here, so been down here a bit over
00:42 the last couple of years. Knowing this is going to be my first event, so a lot of friends,
00:47 a lot of family coming down, so expecting some good support. Yeah, definitely, I mean,
00:52 I've said, get as many people down as you can, you need the ball spotters, so that's
00:56 the main thing. But no, it's great to have my first event, obviously being the seniors
01:02 open, being a local lad, it's great, I'm going to have support, hopefully, and hopefully
01:08 I can put a performance together and try and compete and be in there at the end. I am indeed,
01:14 every time I cross that Severn Bridge, or the Prince of Wales Bridge, excuse me now,
01:19 coming back into Wales and you see that Celtic Manor Resort on the M4, it brings back great
01:25 memories of our time in Wales and the time that I spent here in Wales back in 2009 and
01:31 10. And so every time I come back, I relish it and especially coming to this golf course
01:36 as well. This is a damn good golf course, this, damn good golf course. A real test of
01:42 character and it has a lot of elevation to it, but a good test, a good overall test and
01:48 we're all looking forward to the challenge of it. Yeah, that's the thing, I suppose,
01:53 because of COVID I didn't really play an awful lot during that time and then last year I
01:58 was going to play a few events and had a back injury, so I missed the season. So competitive-wise,
02:03 I haven't really been playing. So it's going to be a bit different, you know, teaming up
02:07 in a major event, being my first one and trying to compete with the other guys. Well, this
02:13 course, as you know, it all depends where the wind's blowing from. If it's blowing off
02:16 the sea, it's very difficult and especially when you're playing like the second, third,
02:20 fourth, the tricky holes and yeah, but it's a lovely area. It's just right on the sea,
02:26 as you can see, and it's a beautiful part of the world. I don't play much golf these
02:31 days. It's more of a challenge getting around walking more than playing golf, but I'll try
02:38 my best and see what I can do. But I'm as ambitious as ever. I want it as much and I
02:45 look forward to the challenge of it. I look forward to the competition, you know, I love
02:49 the competition and I really look forward to putting myself against not just this field,
02:55 but against the golf course as well to get around this course because you've got to play
02:59 chess with this golf course. It's a very, very good one.
