  • last year
Aired (December 18, 2003): This is the legacy story of the prominent Filipino television personality, Bert Marcelo (Jose Manalo), whose trademark high-pitched infectious laughter earned him the popular moniker "Tawa," after the Tagalog word for a laugh. Marcelo, who was born in Baliuag, Bulacan, was a legendary San Miguel Beer endorser. He was best known as the co-host with Pilita Corrales of Ang Bagong Kampeon, a long-running television talent show that discovered Regine Velasquez and other talents. In the 1970s, he also appeared in films and television shows such as Baltic and Company and Us Girls.

Marcelo was at the peak of his career when he died of a stroke shortly after losing the Bulacan governor race in 1995.

09:30 Bertie?
09:32 Yes?
09:34 Please forgive your brother.
09:39 He's just too hot-headed.
09:42 He was forced to sell our calabaw.
09:47 That's right, Mother.
09:52 He's right.
09:59 I'm not really that hot-headed and my dreams are too high.
10:03 Son, dreams are not bad.
10:08 That's why I did it earlier.
10:15 It's been a long time since I've had a laugh in this house.
10:21 It's always full of problems.
10:28 We forgot to laugh.
10:30 I believe in what you're saying.
10:36 You'll become a famous artist.
10:40 Mother, we're the only ones who are surprised.
10:46 You know I don't have a match like Rogelio de la Rosa or Pancho Magalona.
10:57 They're all handsome.
10:58 How can I become famous?
11:00 Pugo and Tugok?
11:02 They're not handsome but they're famous.
11:06 That means you have hope.
11:09 Why?
11:13 Because God's beauty is exploding in the world.
11:17 I'm in the mountains and I'm selling calabaw.
11:19 And I'm only able to earn a little.
11:25 I wish I could use my money wisely.
11:27 I'm able to make you laugh.
11:35 I heard your laughter again.
11:38 I promise, Mother.
11:47 If I need to work like a calabaw, I'll do it.
11:53 So that I can make you laugh again.
11:55 My siblings are waiting for me.
11:57 I promise, Mother.
12:00 Bert fulfilled his promise to his mother.
12:14 After graduating from high school, Bert stopped studying for 5 years.
12:20 He was almost ready to work.
12:23 5 pieces, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
12:26 5 pieces, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

13:05 What happened to you?
13:07 Sit down.
13:08 You're getting bald.
13:09 What happened?
13:12 You suddenly got hurt.
13:14 Let's go to the office.
13:16 Bert, here's your salary.
13:22 It's not even time for my salary yet.
13:27 Bert, you need to rest first.
13:31 You're pushing yourself too hard to work.
13:34 You might get sick.
13:36 I can still work.
13:38 You're not eating enough and you're not sleeping enough.
13:42 I can't do that.
13:44 In the heat of the stove and the kitchen,
13:46 if your body is not strong, it will give.
13:51 I might get in trouble if you get hurt.
13:54 It's good that Pepi was in the kitchen earlier.
13:57 What if I fell from the stove?
13:59 I need to get a job.
14:01 Maybe--
14:03 Bert, I know that.
14:04 But you're also thinking about me.
14:07 Rest for a few weeks first, then we'll talk.
14:11 How many are in?
14:16 A lot.
14:18 We'll save a lot.
14:19 Don't be angry.
14:20 It's almost here.
14:21 I prepared our food.
14:23 Mom,
14:27 Hi.
14:28 Bert,
14:30 your suit is from Manila.
14:32 Is that Bert?
14:33 How are you, Bert?
14:35 Why do you look like you've been sick?
14:39 I was fired from my job.
14:43 Huh?
14:46 Why?
14:48 I've been feeling sick for a few days.
14:56 It's so hot there, Mom.
14:57 My boss was afraid of me and I might get hurt.
15:01 Oh, son, you're right.
15:04 Why?
15:06 I'll hire you to take care of your nieces and nephews.
15:09 They're going to study in Manila, in the F.E.U.
15:13 There's no one in our house when they're in school.
15:17 You can't hire us because you know our business here.
15:22 It's all here in Baliwag.
15:25 Really?
15:26 Yes.
15:28 When are we leaving?
15:30 Tomorrow.
15:32 Mom, I'll be arriving in Manila.
15:36 What?
15:39 If that's what you want.
15:43 Son, be careful.
15:45 Don't go out.
15:47 Be good.
15:49 Don't give yourself a headache.
15:52 Okay, Dad.
15:55 Brother, Brother,
15:57 Nika said you're leaving tomorrow.
16:00 I'm going to Manila.
16:02 I'm going to Manila.
16:04 I'm going to Manila.
16:06 I'm going to Manila.
16:08 I'm going to Manila.
16:11 Nika said you're leaving at 9.
16:12 She's going to Manila.
16:14 Is that so?
16:16 The things I bought for you,
16:17 Dad, if you're going to throw it,
16:19 you should clean the back.
16:21 Brother, if you remember,
16:23 Mom and Dad lost again and again.
16:26 I'm just saying, you're so stubborn.
16:29 Brother,
16:31 Did you forget this?
16:35 This is the manuscript of the exam I took that day.
16:38 It's under the ceiling.
16:40 I don't need it anymore, Brother.
16:42 I'll just work hard in Manila.
16:45 Not a job.
16:47 Why did you suddenly give up on your dream?
16:49 Because you said...
16:52 Berting,
16:54 I was able to talk to Sakit that day because you know our problems are one after another.
16:59 But you're good, Berting.
17:02 Don't waste what God has given you.
17:09 Thank you, Brother.
17:10 Take care.
17:12 Don't forget us.
17:15 No.
17:16 Be a good artist.
17:17 But Brother,
17:19 Can I really be an artist?
17:23 Of course.
17:25 You're better at making people laugh.
17:27 You might fall.
17:35 Come on.
17:36 I'll go now.
17:38 Take care.
17:39 Brother, thank you.
17:40 Take care.
17:42 Bye, Brother.
17:43 The visit of Ms. Bert in Manila gave her a way to gradually fulfill her dreams.
18:06 Even though she's working, she insisted on going to college.
18:09 She took a course, Bachelor of Arts, Major in Speech and Drama in FEU.
18:14 Ms. Bert was recognized in the whole campus because of her talent in art and painting.
18:20 So when she found an opportunity, she was happy to return to Baliwag and bring good news.
18:27 But despite the knowledge of Ms. Bert, she was the one who would be surprised.
18:32 There, let's turn left.
18:35 There.
18:36 There.
18:45 There's the guy.
18:46 There.
18:55 How are you?
18:57 You smell good and you're handsome.
19:02 Brother, do you have a lot for me?
19:04 There.
19:05 Take it.
19:06 It's heavy.
19:07 It's heavy.
19:09 Brother, that's Alice.
19:14 Huh?
19:15 Alice.
19:16 Do you remember Alice?
19:17 Alice?
19:19 Yes, she's beautiful.
19:21 Alice is now a Master in Baliwag Academy.
19:25 Brother, she's beautiful.
19:28 There, she's coming.
19:30 [music]
19:46 Alice is really beautiful.
19:49 Brother, you might get a bump on your mouth.
19:54 Let's go.
19:56 Let's go.
19:57 Come on.
19:58 Brother, there's another one. I saw it.
20:00 There's more.
20:01 There's more.
20:02 Come on.
20:03 Brother, it's heavy.
20:04 Come on.
20:05 Is this paid?
20:07 I'm telling you, you'll forget it.
20:11 Thank you.
20:18 Thank you.
20:19 Hey, Bert, how are you?
20:20 I'm glad that you finished your course and you're now working in the theater in Manila.
20:23 That's right.
20:25 My brother.
20:26 Oh, you should have been given money for this academy.
20:31 You're the best student here.
20:34 Thank you, but it's because of you and your encouragement,
20:37 I don't like the theater.
20:39 Just a moment.
20:41 What's that?
20:42 Brother, it's Alice.
20:43 She's beautiful.
20:44 Alice.
20:48 You go first.
20:50 Do you still know me?
20:53 Of course, Bert.
20:54 We're still watching you when you have a performance in school.
20:57 You're a teacher here.
20:59 Yes.
21:01 I'll go to my friends.
21:03 Okay.
21:04 You're inviting me.
21:06 Alice.
21:07 What?
21:09 Can we...
21:11 You go first, brother.
21:12 Can I go to your house?
21:17 Why?
21:19 I just want to say hello.
21:22 Bert,
21:23 we're still in this situation.
21:26 Oh, that's right.
21:28 Okay, don't.
21:30 Brother,
21:31 no.
21:33 What?
21:35 Okay.
21:36 What?
21:38 I have nothing to do tomorrow.
21:40 It's good that you have nothing to do.
21:43 Brother,
21:45 it means that it's free tomorrow.
21:48 You can bring it anytime.
21:50 What?
21:51 Is that so?
21:52 Yes, brother.
21:53 Okay.
21:55 Okay.
21:56 Okay.
21:57 Tomorrow.
21:58 Brother,
22:01 Alice is a handsome man.
22:03 Sir.
22:08 Sir.
22:10 What is it?
22:12 Good evening.
22:14 I'm Alice.
22:15 Why?
22:17 I'm her friend.
22:19 Can I talk to her?
22:21 What will you tell her?
22:23 You're her father.
22:27 Are you the one who's courting my daughter?
22:30 Yes.
22:31 What's your name?
22:33 Bert.
22:35 Berting.
22:36 What did you finish?
22:38 I'm currently just finishing my studies.
22:42 What?
22:43 Math?
22:44 No.
22:46 Is Alice there?
22:47 She's not here.
22:48 She's not here.
22:49 Okay.
22:51 Father?
22:52 Yes?
22:53 Alice?
22:54 I thought you're already asleep.
22:55 I can't sleep, Father.
22:57 You're so naughty.
22:58 You didn't even plan to sleep.
23:00 Just a moment.
23:05 Come here.
23:07 Shh.
23:09 There.
23:10 How are you?
23:15 I'm fine.
23:17 I brought you flowers.
23:19 Thank you.
23:21 This is for you.
23:23 How's Manila?
23:29 There.
23:31 There are a lot of cars.
23:32 You're still not sleepy?
23:38 It's getting dark.
23:46 Is your father a cop?
23:47 No, he's just like that when there's a courting here.
23:51 He's so strict with his guards.
23:54 He's like a guard.
23:56 Father?
24:07 Yes?
24:08 I'm tired.
24:10 Oh, I mean,
24:12 I'm sorry.
24:14 Oh, it's okay.
24:16 I'll leave now.
24:18 I might stay up all night.
24:20 Yes, it's getting dark.
24:22 Okay.
24:24 Okay, good.
24:25 Thank you.
24:27 Alice, I'll go ahead.
24:29 I'm sorry.
24:31 Okay.
24:34 Okay.
24:35 Sleep tight.
24:36 Father,
24:42 I'm sorry.
24:43 I'm sorry.
24:45 I'm sorry.

25:25 Oh,
25:42 it's you again.
25:44 Alice is not here.
25:46 I didn't send her here.
25:50 I'm sorry.
25:51 It's you.
25:53 I want to talk to you.
25:55 Why?
25:58 I'll admit to you that
26:00 I'm not rich.
26:02 Just like the people courting Alice.
26:06 But,
26:08 I don't have a good car
26:11 or a good life.
26:14 The only thing I want to prove to you is
26:19 that I'm not like my parents and siblings.
26:22 This is also because of my own efforts.
26:25 I love your child very much.
26:29 We will be like that too.
26:32 And I promise you that
26:36 I will give them a good future.
26:38 That's a promise.
26:41 If I can't keep my promise,
26:47 I will return the money you spent on raising Alice.
26:52 [♪♪♪]
26:56 [♪♪♪]
27:11 Despite Alice's father's strict teachings,
27:15 she continued her wedding to Mang Bert in 1964.
27:19 Meanwhile,
27:21 Mang Bert's talent in making people laugh was slowly being noticed.
27:25 In 1966,
27:27 he tried to enter the television industry.
27:31 Mike, what's up?
27:33 You will be the one to be the leader.
27:34 You're the mother, right?
27:35 You'll be the one to be the leader.
27:36 Don't worry.
27:37 He'll be the one to be the leader.
27:38 And you, of course, will be the son.
27:41 Good morning.
27:42 What's that?
27:44 Are you Eddie Sanjurce?
27:46 No, I'm not. He's over there.
27:48 Thank you, sir.
27:50 Okay, let's continue.
27:52 Where are the plates?
27:54 Hey, Eddie is so stupid.
27:58 [laughs]
27:59 You're sitting, but you're walking.
28:02 Eddie.
28:06 Eddie.
28:08 It's been a while since we've seen each other.
28:13 [laughs]
28:14 Wait.
28:17 Wait, who are you?
28:19 I'm Bert Marcello.
28:22 I'm Sara Joaquin's former student.
28:24 I'm in FEU.
28:26 Oh, is that you?
28:28 Yes.
28:29 I heard you're good.
28:31 What can you do?
28:32 I can wash, cook, and sell.
28:37 Above all, I'm good at bathing the fish.
28:41 We need an artist, not a helper.
28:43 You're not funny anymore.
28:45 I'm just making you laugh.
28:47 [laughs]
28:48 That's what I need.
28:57 What is it?
29:00 Your laugh.
29:01 My laugh?
29:02 Yes, your laugh.
29:03 I'll do it again.
29:04 Yes, do it again.
29:05 [laughs]
29:06 [laughs]
29:07 Doesn't it sound like I'm hitting my head?
29:13 Go ahead, do it again.
29:14 I'll laugh again.
29:16 Just laugh.
29:17 [laughs]
29:18 In the TV show, "Tang Tarang Tang,"
29:22 the first thing we heard was Bert's funny laugh
29:26 that became his trademark.
29:28 From "Tang Tarang Tang,"
29:30 we slowly got to know Bert's name
29:33 in the field of laughter.
29:36 Oh, my child.
29:37 I was just looking at your house.
29:40 The doors are all in place.
29:44 I don't know what Bert was feeding you.
29:47 I was just staring at him.
29:49 Your house is just a little bit higher than the river.
29:54 Oh, my.
29:55 Bert will fix it.
29:57 Of course, we'll give priority to my son.
30:01 Alice!
30:02 Alice!
30:03 Alice!
30:04 Bert, why are you running?
30:06 Mom, you're here.
30:09 I have good news for you.
30:10 What is it?
30:11 The new TV show on Channel 5,
30:13 the cartoon of Nonny Marcelo,
30:15 "Tisoy,"
30:16 will be the TV show
30:17 and I was chosen to be the host.
30:19 The one with the stupid provincial.
30:21 [laughs]
30:22 Really?
30:23 Alice, we're so lucky.
30:24 [laughs]
30:25 We'll be famous.
30:27 My husband.
30:28 This is what we've been waiting for.
30:29 [laughs]
30:30 Because of his role as Ticu in the TV show "Tisoy,"
30:35 Bert became more popular.
30:37 And since then,
30:38 he has been receiving TV and movie offers.
30:43 Bert, introduce us to our next contestant.
30:47 I don't want to.
30:48 Why not?
30:50 I don't have a good one yet.
30:53 What's a good one?
30:54 You're so fond of good ones.
30:56 We're just gossiping.
30:58 Come on.
30:59 Don't understand them.
31:01 They're just jealous
31:03 because I'm the only one who's good to you.
31:05 [laughs]
31:06 Come on.
31:07 I'm jealous.
31:08 I'm good.
31:09 Okay.
31:10 [laughs]
31:11 [cheers]
31:12 You're so...
31:14 [laughs]
31:15 Oh my.
31:16 [sings]
31:17 Oh my.
31:18 The kiss is so sweet.
31:19 It's like the kiss of a queen.
31:21 [laughs]
31:22 You can call all the saints
31:24 and I can die.
31:25 [laughs]
31:29 [sings]
31:30 Again?
31:31 One more time.
31:32 Stop it.
31:33 [sings]
31:34 [laughs]
31:35 [sings]
31:36 [laughs]

31:42 [laughs]
31:43 Alice.
31:44 Oh.
31:45 My son is here.
31:48 What is it, son?
31:49 Huh?
31:50 Kiss him.
31:51 What?
31:52 Kiss your dad.
31:53 [laughs]
31:54 [laughs]
31:55 [laughs]
31:56 Kiss your dad.
31:58 Is he sick?
32:02 Why does he look like a kid?
32:05 He's been staring at you.
32:08 At me?
32:09 Why?
32:10 He's always watching you.
32:14 You're kissing Pilita.
32:17 He's watching you too.
32:21 He's being a stalker.
32:24 He said we broke up and you replaced me with Pilita.
32:28 You're crazy.
32:29 Where is he?
32:30 Dad, dad.
32:31 Don't be so hot-headed.
32:34 Son, come here.
32:40 Hey.
32:42 Hey.
32:43 Your dad is calling you.
32:45 Hey.
32:48 [phone rings]
32:53 Son, dad is just kidding.
32:56 Aren't there a lot of people who make people laugh?
32:58 We need to do that.
33:00 I'm not laughing.
33:02 Why do you need to kiss him?
33:05 Isn't it that only spouses kiss?
33:08 You're not a couple.
33:09 Why are you kissing him?
33:11 Buboy.
33:13 Buboy, come here.
33:15 Let him be.
33:16 Let him be.
33:17 Maybe you're also doubting.
33:22 Berting, if there's one person who understands your work better,
33:26 it's me.
33:28 I trust you and our partnership.
33:31 I'm not affected by anything.
33:34 That's good.
33:38 That's what I'm telling my husband.
33:41 He's so beautiful.
33:42 If you're facing each other and you'll see each other,
33:45 you'll be fat.
33:47 It's delicious.
33:48 You're calling him a fat man.
33:50 He's just kidding.
33:52 You're so sexy.
33:53 Turn around.
33:54 Turn around.
33:55 Come on.
33:56 Aside from hosting the new champion,
34:08 Mang Bert and Pilita also became a role model
34:10 in giving life to our countrymen abroad
34:14 through the program Hatid Saya.
34:17 From America, Middle East, and even Europe,
34:20 all of them were surrounded by Mang Bert and Pilita.
34:23 Maybe this is also the reason why they were not intrigued.
34:29 Many were doubting that there might be something between them.
34:34 But Mang Bert and Pilita just denied it.
34:37 Because more than anyone,
34:39 they and their loved ones in life know the truth.
34:44 [music]
34:49 Thank you.
34:50 Buboy, my child.
34:52 I have a surprise guest for you.
34:55 Who is it?
34:56 Just wait.
34:57 Buboy, happy birthday.
35:06 What?
35:08 Aren't you going to kiss your Aunt Pilita?
35:11 Show me.
35:12 There, for you.
35:17 Here.
35:18 Don't be mad at me.
35:20 We're just doing our job as your dad.
35:23 And my children don't get mad.
35:25 What?
35:26 Are we good now?
35:27 Do you want me to sing you a happy birthday?
35:31 Okay.
35:32 Okay.
35:33 Here.
35:34 [singing]
35:44 Pilita is so beautiful.
35:46 Hey, Daddy, what's happening to you?
35:51 Dad?
35:52 I feel dizzy.
35:54 Maybe your vertigo is attacking you again.
35:58 Maybe not.
36:01 You're making me tired.
36:03 You're traveling a lot.
36:05 Why don't you just stay in Las Vegas?
36:07 I can't.
36:09 I already made a compromise and I'm forgiving to the people who are filing cases.
36:13 And, there, she's gone.
36:17 I'm not dizzy anymore.
36:20 Are you sure?
36:21 I'm sure and I'm laughing.
36:23 Daddy,
36:27 Daddy, are you sure?
36:30 Yes, I'm sure.
36:31 There, see?
36:32 See?
36:33 Even if you're talking--
36:34 Don't joke.
36:35 No, I'm not.
36:36 It's true.
36:38 See?
36:39 It's beautiful, right?
36:40 [music]
37:00 [music]
37:26 [speaking in Tagalog]
37:46 Tasha, you won't understand me.
37:52 I'm already there.
37:53 I've already reached what I should have reached as a comedian.
37:56 But,
37:59 I'm still looking for a deeper reason,
38:02 a deeper trick that I can do to other people.
38:06 Brother,
38:08 isn't it a trick to make them laugh?
38:11 You made them laugh.
38:13 You used all your intelligence and strength to make them laugh.
38:17 You know, brother,
38:19 the world of being an artist is different from the world of politics.
38:24 Politics is very dirty.
38:26 Are you ready to face that?
38:28 Believe it or not,
38:33 I'm ready.
38:38 Alice,
38:45 did you hear what your husband said?
38:49 If that happens, you'll be in trouble in politics.
38:54 Tash,
38:56 whatever Berting's decision is,
38:58 I'll support him.
39:00 [music]
39:16 [people shouting]
39:44 [speaking in Tagalog]
40:09 [people shouting]
40:37 [speaking in Tagalog]
40:56 [speaking in Tagalog]
41:04 Berting,
41:05 take a rest.
41:08 Our enemy is strong, Alice.
41:13 Their machinery is stronger.
41:15 They have a lot of money to spend or give.
41:19 But, I don't have any.
41:20 That's why I need to double my effort and determination.
41:23 You're showing too much effort and determination.
41:27 I was in your position earlier.
41:30 Maybe, I was just there.
41:31 I gave up.
41:33 I gave up.
41:34 Win or lose,
41:37 I'll continue this.
41:39 You know, Berting,
41:44 if I have something to thank God for,
41:47 that is for us to be together until now.
41:52 No matter when,
41:55 fame will not change you.
41:59 You're still the Berting that I met and courted day and night.
42:03 I just hope that people will know you the way I met you.
42:10 So that you don't need to ask for their support.
42:14 So that they will give you this with no hesitation.
42:20 [Bell ringing]
42:31 [Indistinct chatter]
42:43 [Indistinct chatter]
42:52 You're being too hasty.
42:54 Let's just accept the result of the election.
42:58 Ah, Mr. Bert,
43:02 what he means is,
43:03 do you accept your defeat?
43:05 I've accepted for a long time that I might lose this election.
43:12 I did everything I can to serve my fellow countrymen.
43:17 But,
43:19 they don't want me to be the leader.
43:22 Many people are saying that they are looking for a traitor in this election.
43:26 Are you not going to file a complaint with the Comilec?
43:29 What for?
43:32 The people are the ones who speak.
43:34 Whether there's a mercy or not,
43:36 let's just wait for the result.
43:40 Ah, Mr. Bert,
43:41 what are you planning to do?
43:43 Are you going to run for the next election?
43:45 I think that one defeat is enough.
43:49 I did everything I can to serve you.
43:54 For now,
43:57 I want to rest with my family.
44:01 And I hope that
44:07 we can have a beer together.
44:08 Mr. Bert faced a whole new challenge when he lost the election.
44:35 For the next few months,
44:37 he forced himself to work.
44:39 Mr. Bert continued to bring happiness to our fellow countrymen abroad
44:44 and sometimes, to the television.
44:47 But on November 19, 1995,
44:51 a new challenge came that will change the lives of those who love Mr. Bert.
44:58 Mr. Bart,
45:00 I'll call you when our contact arrives to Europe.
45:04 Okay, I'll be on my way.
45:06 Okay.
45:07 What's wrong with you?
45:11 I have a stomachache.
45:13 Sit down first.
45:14 You should get a check-up.
45:18 No, I just had a check-up last week.
45:24 If you don't have one, don't try to understand me.
45:27 Go ahead and go to bed.
45:29 Okay, I'll be on my way.
45:33 Take care.
45:34 Take care.
45:37 Take care.
45:38 Bro.
46:04 Bert, where are we going?
46:06 Home.
46:07 Home?
46:09 Bert.
46:14 Bert.
46:16 Why, Bert?
46:18 Bert.
46:21 Bert.
46:23 I'm scared.
46:25 Doc, doc, what's happening?
46:29 I have to be honest with you.
46:32 We can't do anything about Mr. Bert's situation.
46:35 The only thing that can save him is the life support machine.
46:39 And, for now, we don't know when he's going to wake up.
46:45 And if he does, he won't be the same.
46:49 The only thing we can do is pray.
46:53 Thank you, doc.
47:04 Bert.
47:05 Tasha.
47:07 You said that we're the ones who will decide if Bert will live or not.
47:19 That's how it is, Andoy.
47:24 And I talked to Alice.
47:30 She said that whatever decision we make,
47:33 that's her decision.
47:35 You know, if I'm the only one who will follow,
47:38 I don't want to see Mr. Bert like that.
47:42 What do you mean by that, Tasha?
47:47 You just want Bert to die, is that it?
47:50 It's not like that, but,
47:53 did you see Mr. Bert?
47:56 He's just a body.
47:59 The one I know is the one who makes me laugh, the one who makes us laugh.
48:03 But that brother, that's not Mr. Bert.
48:06 He's gone.
48:08 Mr. Bert left us.
48:11 But you don't expect that, Andoy.
48:15 Bert will fight those trials.
48:18 What do you mean by hope?
48:22 He's gone. We haven't accepted that he's gone.
48:26 That's it.
48:29 What's your decision?
48:30 Tell Dr. Areta that we'll wait.
48:35 Only God knows how long Bert will live.
48:40 But, brother,
48:44 Let's not ask for help from Tasha.
48:46 Let's do that as a tribute to our brother
48:51 and also as a tribute to the soul of Aunt and Father.
48:55 [music]
49:09 Dad, these pictures are from Chicago, right?
49:14 You said you'd take me to your shows, but I didn't.
49:21 But I'm still waiting for them, Dad.
49:24 I want to join you.
49:25 Um, Buboy, why don't you rest?
49:33 We'll take care of Tasha.
49:35 It's okay, Aunt.
49:39 I don't want to leave Dad.
49:42 He might run away from us.
49:44 He might leave us.
49:46 Because this is Bert. He hasn't woken up yet.
49:51 Bert, get up.
49:53 We still have a lot of shows to go.
49:55 Oh, by the way, the producer in the US called.
49:58 He's really mad.
50:00 He said you're a ninja.
50:02 Oh, right, Buboy, your mom said
50:06 she'll come with you when you get back.
50:09 Okay, Buboy.
50:13 We'll leave you here.
50:14 Go with your mom.
50:15 Okay.
50:17 [Sighs]
50:18 [Phone rings]
50:23 [Phone rings]
50:28 Tasha, Tasha, call the doctor.
50:32 Tasha, hurry!

53:43 (singing in foreign language)
53:47 (audience applauding)
54:11 (audience applauding)
54:13 - Bert, wherever you are,
54:15 I hope you're having the grandest time.
54:17 (speaking in foreign language)
54:22 But seriously,
54:28 (speaking in foreign language)
54:31 it will never be the same without you.
54:33 (speaking in foreign language)
54:38 (soft music)
54:40 (speaking in foreign language)

55:17 (speaking in foreign language)
55:21 - I ask no questions.
55:45 (speaking in foreign language)
55:49 - My boys, four boys became men earlier.
56:05 (speaking in foreign language)
56:08 'Cause I performed the role of two,
56:10 as mother and then as father.
56:13 But in our lifestyle, not much.
56:16 'Cause he worked so hard to give us a comfortable life.
56:20 - Was he a loving husband?
56:22 How was he as a husband?
56:23 - A very loving one.
56:24 - Very loving.
56:25 (speaking in foreign language)
56:26 - Made time for the family for important occasions
56:29 like birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, New Year.
56:34 (speaking in foreign language)
56:38 They're all graduates of Ateneo
56:41 and now they have good jobs.
56:44 (speaking in foreign language)
56:48 - Bert, this is the eighth Christmas without you.
57:02 We love you, Barry, Albert, Gerard, and Buboy.
57:09 Miss you very much.
57:12 (speaking in foreign language)
57:16 Because in a couple's life, one has to go ahead
57:20 and perhaps she's there to welcome me.
57:23 See you later, Bert.
57:25 (speaking in foreign language)
57:29 (speaking in foreign language)
57:39 (speaking in foreign language)
