Victoria Filtness talks about the Yorkshire Muddings Forest Schools.
Transcript
00:00 I'm Victoria and I'm here at Yorkshire Muddings which is a forest school that I set up in
00:08 2021 to encourage children to spend time outdoors. Yorkshire Muddings is all about encouraging
00:16 a child-led free play in all weathers so we brave the Yorkshire winters and the Yorkshire
00:23 summers. We give children the freedom to just play outside in a way that they, in any way
00:31 that they enjoy. We set up mud kitchens for them, we set up loose park play areas for
00:39 them and we just give them the opportunity to learn in a way that's really natural to
00:46 them in an outdoor woodland environment. In June of this year we opened our second site
00:54 at Tongarden Centre. It's just beyond the Grasshopper's outdoor play area next to where
01:00 the Christmas grotto usually is, if you know where that is. It was a secret woodland that
01:07 wasn't used for anything and we have turned it into a really beautiful, really engaging
01:13 and stimulating play area for children up to the age of eight to explore. We're also
01:22 about to open our third site up in York in the Stamford Bridge area in a private woodland
01:30 up there. That will be open in the autumn of this year. The plan then is to open more
01:38 sites across Yorkshire so that we can spread the message, the approach to child-led learning
01:46 as far and wide as we possibly can.
