00:00Hi, I'm Laura Reid, the Assistant Features Editor at the Yorkshire Post, and here's a look at what's coming up in the week ahead.
00:07In Bradford, an open-air event celebrating the people and places of the city is going to take place to mark the official start of Bradford being the 2025 UK City of Culture.
00:19RISE is being held on January 10th and 11th, and will see City Park and Centenary Square transformed into a stage for shows putting local people, voices and stories at their heart.
00:31The event is being held in collaboration with Stephen Frayne, the Bradford-born magician formerly known as Dynamo.
00:39In politics, the House of Commons returns from its Christmas recess this week, and attention is due to be on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and the policy pledges that saw Labour win a landslide general election victory last year.
00:53Liberal Democrat MP Jamie Stone will open a debate in Westminster Hall on Monday on an e-petition calling for a new general election.
01:03The Petitions Committee agreed to the debate in response to the e-petition that has attracted more than 3 million signatures to date.
01:11It asks for a general election to be called, with the author saying, I believe that the current government has gone back on promises that were laid out in the lead-up to the last general election.
01:22A government response was published on the e-petition page in December, and it said the government would continue to deliver the manifesto of change that it was elected upon.
01:32And finally, the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford will reopen its doors to the public on January 8th following a major regeneration project.
01:42And when it does so, it will be displaying its first digitally-born object, a meme.
01:47The social media post was originally created by the Museum of English Rural Life, part of Reading University, back in 2018, and it features an image of a large Exmoor horn ram from their photography collection.
02:01The image was taken in 1962.
02:04Those at the museum say that it's an example of how internet culture can create second, unexpected lives for images long after their first creation.
