00:00 A new device is allowing tourists in Japan to ask questions in their native language.
00:06 According to Lonely Planet, a 2017 survey suggests 10% of adults say lack of knowing
00:13 another language prevents them from traveling.
00:16 And even though about 125 million people in the world speak Japanese, many travelers going
00:22 through Tokyo's Shibu-Shinjuku train station do not.
00:26 That's where these smart screens come in handy.
00:29 Travelers' questions are translated into Japanese for the human attendant to answer.
00:34 The worker's response is then displayed on the screen, called Voice Biz, in one of 11
00:39 different languages.
00:41 Questions and answers are translated without the use of a third-party app, like Google
00:46 Translate.
00:47 It's also much faster than pulling up your phone, typing everything out, showing it,
00:52 and there's misunderstanding.
00:53 With technology and AI raising some suspicions, this traveler was happy to see a person still
01:00 involved in the process.
01:02 It might sound a bit weird, but you feel safe immediately because you know there's a human
01:05 on the other side.
01:06 In June 2023 alone, more than 2 million tourists arrived in Japan.
01:11 This technology may make their stay a little easier.
01:14 Thank you very much.
01:16 That helps us a lot today.
