00:00 In the second month, the Miralco's discount will be implemented.
00:03 But the price of rice will increase to Php60 per kilo according to a group.
00:09 Witnessed by Bernadette Reyes.
00:11 Miralco has good news for its customers this August.
00:20 Their discount is Php29 per kilowatt-hour.
00:23 Meaning, Php58 will be deducted from the cost of consuming 200 kWh within a month.
00:31 The Miralco will have a discount for the second month due to the lower generation charge.
00:36 For now, Miralco has not seen an effect of increasing the price of crude oil compared to the price of electricity.
00:42 But if the price of crude oil continues to rise until September, it may have an effect.
00:49 The power plants that use Malampaya as fuel, the price of the Malampaya fuel adjusts every quarter.
00:56 Based on oil prices, it's very helpful that when they reduce their fuel price,
01:03 they can help reduce the generation charge.
01:06 But if oil price hike is what they're talking about,
01:09 it's with the drivers who are suffering the most, like the vegetable travelers in Balintawak Market.
01:15 It's a need, it's a need of the people. So even if we lose, we'll just travel.
01:20 The truckers' groups also say that they need to add more discounts that affect the price of goods.
01:28 If you travel to Manila or Cabuya, the discount you used to have was Php20,000.
01:38 Maybe we need to add Php3,000 to Php4,000.
01:44 The price of rice was increased from Php1 to Php5 from the beginning of August.
01:50 Before, it was increasing, Php20,000, Php30,000. Now, Php100,000.
01:56 Based on the price monitoring of the Department of Agriculture and our trip here to Muñoz Market in Quezon City,
02:02 no one is selling imported rice.
02:05 No one can buy regular and well-milled rice.
02:08 The only thing they can buy is premium and special rice that starts at Php45 per kilo.
02:14 According to the Federation of Free Farmers Cooperative, there could be problems in the supply of rice in September
02:20 because farmers have not yet seen the Indian export ban and the rising prices in Vietnam and Thailand.
02:28 It will be a very tight supply situation in September.
02:32 It's hard for us to expect from imports to supply all of it.
02:38 So the second possible source of our stocks will be the early harvest.
02:44 Not only is the supply challenging, but the price of rice could reach Php60 per kilo,
02:50 especially since the price of rice is already at Php34.
02:54 It's too far from Php70. It's now Php33, almost double.
02:59 Maybe it's Php60, at least Php60.
03:02 Normally, it's times two.
03:05 So Php33 should be Php66.
03:07 But the more efficient traders, millers, might be able to do something.
03:12 So if you put it, Php60 to Php66 retail.
03:16 I think there is a price that can be removed from the higher-class rice.
03:24 But based on the DA's account, the country's total rice will exceed Php20 million metric tons this year.
03:31 Our projection for the next harvest is that we will exceed our production in 2021 and 2022.
03:45 That's our plan.
03:47 As long as we don't get hit by strong storms.
