00:00 The Princess of Wales is expected to succeed King Charles in a key new post, but she must
00:06 make the first move if she wants it. The Royal Thames Yacht Club is banking on Kate Middleton,
00:11 41, to take over as Commodore after Prince Andrew steps down in 2021. The Knightsbridge-based
00:18 organisation is Britain's most famous yacht club, with prior royal patrons including Lord
00:24 Mountbatten and Prince Philip. Following the resignation of the Duke of York due to his
00:29 ties to Geoffrey Epstein, the patronage was handed to King Charles, who currently holds
00:35 the title of Commodore. The club, however, has its sights set on Kate, who is a known
00:40 sailing fan, according to the Daily Mail's diary editor Richard Eden. Earlier this week,
00:46 the yacht club launched a new "Women Who Rock the Boat" event to promote women in the sailing
00:50 community during Cows Week on the Isle of Wight. "Kate would be a terrific role model,"
00:56 a senior member of the group remarked, describing how the princess would be a good fit. But
01:01 the problem is that royal protocol requires her and the royal family to make the first
01:06 step. As a result, rather than the yacht club approaching the palace with the recommendation,
01:11 the decision must originate from within the institution. Prior to her marriage to Prince
01:16 William, she participated in the Sisterhood Challenge, a rowing event in which women of
01:21 all athletic levels may compete to raise funds for a variety of causes dear to the organizers'
01:27 hearts. During training, Kate was seen commanding her team's operation on the Thames in London.
01:32 As a working royal, the Princess of Wales has participated in a number of sailing competitions,
01:38 never being afraid to jump on board and ride the waves with professional sailors. Last
01:43 summer, the Princess of Wales competed in a catamaran race in Plymouth alongside Olympic
01:48 sailor Sir Ben Ainslie. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took Princess Charlotte and Prince
01:53 George to the Isle of Wight in August 2019 to participate in the charity King's Cup
01:58 Regatta. However, family backing was unable to propel William, 37, or Kate, 37, to victory
02:05 and the couple finished third and eighth, respectively. The princess sat on the side
02:10 of her boat with crew members for the day of sailing, wearing a baseball cap and her
02:14 hair in a ponytail. She appeared to be in good spirits and grinned heartily as she stepped
02:20 onto the lake. The Princess of Wales now has over 20 patronages, with several of them focusing
02:26 on fitness, such as the All England Tennis Club and SportsAid.
