Transcript
00:00 Alright, welcome back. It's Thursday, so that means it's time for Pet of the Week with Nick Cullen from Kern County.
00:04 How are you and who did you bring this week? I'm really good Ryan. Thank you for having me. I brought with me an old boy.
00:11 His name is Hemmy. H-E-M-M-Y, Hemmy.
00:15 He's a cool dog, man.
00:17 And he's one of those dogs that our hearts go out to him because he's 11 years old.
00:22 Wow. So when a dog comes to an animal shelter that's that old and he's obviously had somebody caring for him.
00:28 It's tough for them to adjust because they've been in a home for so long.
00:31 And not many people are coming to an animal shelter looking to adopt older dogs.
00:36 So, you know, we love Hemmy and we're praying for him and we're really trying to find him a good home.
00:41 But he's an awesome dog.
00:43 11 years old, so that means he's aged. He's calm. He's not barking at too many people.
00:48 He's just like this, what we're seeing. He's wise. Okay. With age comes wiseness. Yeah, no, he's a very relaxed dog.
00:57 He's gonna do better in a home.
00:59 That's probably a little bit more relaxed, a little more quiet. He doesn't need to be overly active.
01:04 He's, like I said, a senior dog. I still got some life in him.
01:08 So he's gonna go out, get some exercise occasionally.
01:10 But other than that, he's gonna be a real well-maintenance dog. Great.
01:13 Now, if somebody wants to adopt him, how can they do that?
01:15 They're gonna come down to the Kern County Animal Shelter at 3951 Fruitvale Avenue.
01:20 We're on Fruitvale, just north of Rosedale Highway. 10 to 4 are operating hours, except for Wednesdays.
01:25 We're open from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.
01:27 You can come out and just ask to see Hemi, and our staff will show him to you.
01:30 Now, you always do events. Always, always, always. I feel like it's almost every weekend.
01:35 But do you have anything coming up soon? We do, actually. The month of August is really big for us.
01:39 It's a promotion called Clear the Shelters.
01:41 It's a nationwide adoption event, and we are participating.
01:45 I know there's some other shelters here locally, like the City of Bakersfield, that are participating.
01:48 And the point is, clear the shelters. We want to get all the animals adopted.
01:53 So we're waiving all adoption fees throughout the month of August.
01:55 So you can come pick up a dog, adoption fees waived. All month. Dogs and cats, Hemi included.
02:00 Okay, Kern County, you heard that here first. Again, Kern County Animal Services,
02:05 they're doing wonderful things in our community to help these dogs, these cats.
02:09 I know you have iguanas, I think, too. We have everything. A little bit of everything, if you're looking for an addition to your family.
02:15 So thank you once again for bringing another animal, and thank you for coming yourself. Thank you for having me.
02:19 Alright, Kern County, that is all that we have for today. Thank you so much for watching.
02:24 If you are interested in having your business on Kern Living, because we're always looking,
02:28 make sure you send me an email to ryan.nelson, it's my first and last name, at k-e-r-o dot com.
02:35 That simple. I'll try my best to get back to you as fast as I can.
02:38 Sometimes we're running around doing our stuff.
02:41 You can follow us on Instagram and Facebook at Kern Living, and myself at ryannelson23.
02:46 And I will see you all Friday morning, same time, same place, for Kern Living.
