00:00 Before we start, I will first join the school brigade to prepare for the school year.
00:06 And coming back from Commonwealth Elementary School in Quezon City, we have with us Marie Zuman.
00:12 Marie.
00:13 Yes, good morning Ivan.
00:19 And just a few moments from now, the school brigade will start the 2023 kickoff.
00:27 The stage is set for the program.
00:30 Ivan and Kapuso, just this August 7, the national kickoff of the school brigade will be officially launched at Tarlac National High School.
00:40 No less than our Vice President and Education Secretary, Sara Duterte.
00:44 And this morning, the school brigade will start preparing for the school year in a few days at the school's division office in Quezon City.
00:55 And at this point, we have Dr. Wilma Mano, the Principal 4 of the Commonwealth Elementary School,
01:01 to give us more details on the school brigade kickoff.
01:07 Good morning, ma'am.
01:09 Good to see you again.
01:11 Okay, first of all, what will be the main focus of the school brigade here at the Commonwealth Elementary School?
01:18 First of all, we will make sure that all students who will be entering will have a seat,
01:24 have a proper education, and have safe passageways.
01:28 And above all, their preparation for the upcoming school year will be well-organized.
01:34 Alright, at this point, the school year will start in a few weeks.
01:41 Do we still have any shortcomings in terms of classrooms, armchairs? We noticed earlier that there are broken armchairs.
01:48 Will all of those be replaced? And will we not have a few more problems or barriers?
01:54 Are you still seeing those?
01:55 At this point, we still have three classrooms that are buffered,
01:59 prepared so that if our population grows, we can have additional students, around 600 or more.
02:10 So, we are expecting 600 students.
02:13 But we are expecting 600 more. So, how many are there in total?
02:18 At this point, our enrollment is 7,623. So, if we add the 600, approximately 8,200 plus.
02:26 Is this more than the previous years?
02:28 Yes, it is more because this year, all of those who are in the catchment area or around the school,
02:36 we forced them to enter, especially those who are in communities where their children are still being kept.
02:43 Are we returning to pre-pandemic levels, the number of students who are enrolling?
02:47 Correct. We are now in pre-pandemic time, where all the students are interested in returning to school.
02:54 Alright. Are we expecting any late enrollees?
02:57 Probably, those who are from the provinces who will return to Manila. But that's just a few.
03:03 Is it full face-to-face enrollment or hybrid?
03:06 We are full face-to-face enrollment, but if we have the opportunity to do hybrid or online,
03:12 because for example, there is a class suspension, we still need to continue our studies,
03:17 that's when online learning will be included.
03:19 Alright. Ma'am, I have a question for you because yesterday, the Department of Education had a strong K-10 curriculum.
03:26 What can you say about this and what adjustments will our school make?
03:31 Okay. When we were young, we didn't have this many signatures.
03:37 In the K-10 curriculum, we made signatures with our fellow students
03:45 so that the teachers will be more focused in teaching and above all,
03:50 they will lower the additional fees so that the teachers can focus on teaching
03:55 and will not do the ancillary work of non-teaching staff.
03:59 Do you have any training to prepare for this?
04:02 Yes, we have insets for the upcoming days and we still have the quality circle, mentoring, technical assistance.
04:10 Alright. Thank you very much for the information you gave us, Dr. Will Maman,
04:14 the Principal of Commonwealth Elementary School. Thank you so much, Ma'am.
04:17 Thank you, Ma'am.
04:18 And good luck to the Brigada Escuela Kickoff.
04:20 God bless.
04:21 God bless. Meanwhile, Kapuso, we can see that some members of the four-piece are arriving.
04:27 These are the parents of some students who are studying here in the Commonwealth Elementary School
04:31 and they are included in the rules that will be distributed to the Brigada Escuela.
04:36 So, you can see that the cleaning materials are here and these are the ones they will use
04:42 in cleaning the different classrooms.
04:45 They will study here to be clean, clean and safe for all our students when they return to school.
04:54 At this point, on this side, we can see the education stakeholders of their barangay
05:00 who will be joining the Brigada Escuela 2023 Kickoff this morning.
05:05 They are so happy and are just waiting for the program to start.
05:09 That's the latest from the Commonwealth Elementary School.
05:12 Back to you, Ivan.
05:15 [laughter]
05:16 [music]
