Hot favourites and hosts England suffered their first ICC Cricket World Cup defeat against Pakistan in Nottingham on Monday. In a high-scoring content, Pakistan were 14 runs too good and the win ended an 11-match losing streak in ODIs. Morgan said England's fielding needed to improve and it wasn't really a very bad day in office. England play Bangladesh in Cardiff on June 8. (Video courtesy: ICC)

00:00 Hi Owen, bad day at the office?
00:08 I don't think it was that bad a day, I think fielding wise it was.
00:14 We've gone from probably one of our best performances in the field at the Oval to not extremely
00:20 bad but it's cost us probably 15 or 20 runs in the field which is a lot in a one day game.
00:27 I think our performance throughout the tournament with the bat and the ball, we'll ebb and flow,
00:30 we'll have bad days.
00:31 I didn't think it was that bad.
00:34 I thought with the ball we restricted them, they never really got away with us given that
00:38 the wicket was good and the outfield was very fast.
00:43 And when we recovered with the bat, with that substantial partnership, we were never really
00:47 out of the game probably until the early 40s, over yeah.
00:53 What do you put the failed performance down to?
00:56 Yeah, I mean we've done all the work, I think it's just a really bad day in the field.
01:03 It hasn't happened a lot with us but there were mistakes that we don't normally make
01:07 which is disappointing.
01:08 Was there an element of being a bit overawed by the crowd, like the vocal Pakistan support
01:13 I saw obviously?
01:14 No, not at all.
01:17 We've prepared for all this sort of stuff.
01:19 When we play against Asian teams it's always a home game for those guys, they tend to be
01:23 louder than our support.
01:28 So we've prepared for that, yeah.
01:30 What's going to be the message to the players on the back of that performance?
01:37 Yeah, there are some really good positives to take out of our batting and our bowling.
01:43 But fielding is an attitude thing, so it's a matter of taking maybe our stand-off attitude
01:51 today that we had in the field and getting it back to our positive attitude, going for
01:56 everything, creating that fearless nature about maybe taking a half chance instead of
02:00 standing off a normal chance.
02:03 Presumably chasing 350 odd, if I told you at two your best batsman were going to get
02:10 100 you'd still expect to chase it, so something else has gone wrong there hasn't it?
02:17 Sort of.
02:18 It's a real believer that hundreds win you games, particularly in this day and age.
02:23 I think it's always a unit performance, particularly chasing down 350 or even more.
02:30 And today's a good example of that.
02:32 The guys did play brilliantly but they just kept us in the game.
02:36 They needed more help from either the other four in the top six or guys down the order.
02:41 Can you pass the microphone to Vish?
02:49 It's asked with the benefit of hindsight but do you think you could have gone a bit earlier
02:54 in terms of trying to push the rate up because it seemed like you were always slightly behind
02:58 even when you had big overs in the last ten?
03:00 I don't think so.
03:01 I only think we were two big overs behind.
03:04 So if you have two big overs between 16 and 18, which is always possible when Joss is
03:10 at the crease, I think you're right back in the game.
03:15 And then you don't ask too much of the guys coming in then.
03:18 They never really came.
03:23 Was it 14 we were short?
03:25 12 or 14.
03:27 It's not that far away.
03:30 Like I mentioned, the two guys played brilliantly.
03:32 Were you surprised by Paquitano's intensity today?
03:35 Or I suppose maybe impressed by it?
03:39 Not really, no.
03:40 It's not very much to surprise me when we play against Pakistan.
03:42 You just don't expect everything.
03:45 There seemed to be a few conversations about the ball going on out there when England were
03:52 batting and then when Joss was dismissed he had a good look at it on his way back to the
03:57 Pavilion.
03:58 Do you know what that was about?
03:59 The discussions were throughout the whole of the two innings.
04:03 The umpires came to me after about 20, I can't remember the exact over but it was mid-innings
04:09 and it seemed to think that we were throwing the ball in on the bounce too much or it was
04:14 being over-exaggerated and they emphasised that it would be the same for both.
04:18 So it was really back to us then that the conversations were stopping the game where
04:23 Pakistan were doing the exact same thing and Joss was just intrigued to see if the ball
04:27 - when the ball gets hit against the LED boards it does scuff it up quite a lot.
04:32 I'm sure he was interested to see if one side was rougher than the other or it looked natural
04:37 or unnatural.
04:38 Did he say anything about it when he returned?
04:39 No, I haven't spoken to him about it.
04:42 Pass it along to Guy and then we'll do Lawrence and take one more after that, George.
04:46 Given how close the defeat was, how frustrated is the dressing room after that Owen?
04:52 I think frustrated in the fact that we could have done something about it.
04:57 Like I mentioned with the bat you can get bowled out, you can play against a side that's
05:00 better than you or just have an off day, same with the ball.
05:03 But when it comes down to the difference of sides being in the field it's even more frustrating.
05:08 What can Johnny and Jason do about this new tactic that they're being hit with, leg spinner,
05:14 in the first couple of overs?
05:18 Just be themselves.
05:20 Be aggressive, be positive, approach it in the same manner.
05:25 They are doing that.
05:29 Unsettled them at all do you think?
05:31 No, we talked about it before today's game that it might happen again.
05:36 Actually surprised a little bit that Imad didn't play, as we talked about him potentially
05:40 taking the new ball.
05:43 We bit of a struggle with the over eight again, is that because Adil couldn't get through
05:49 all ten overs and is that going to be a problem going forward?
05:53 I think our over eight is good.
05:56 About three overs ago we were level.
05:58 You finished 20 past didn't you?
06:03 I don't wear a watch when I'm playing, sorry.
06:05 The umpires are on my gauge, they said I was level with about three overs to go.
06:10 So you're pretty confident England are in the clear?
06:12 Yeah, yeah.
06:13 Thank you.
06:14 It wasn't an issue.
06:18 If it does, like I said before, if it does become an issue we'll have to address it but
06:25 it's normally alright.
