00:00 - Yeah, yeah.
00:01 Look, the former government in New South Wales
00:06 declared New England to be one of
00:10 the renewable energy zones.
00:13 That's something that my government supports.
00:16 And we worked closely with the former Perrottet government
00:21 as well as we'll work with the MINS government.
00:24 I think the announcement yesterday
00:27 is a really positive one.
00:29 Clearly, there needs by the agency.
00:34 Clearly, there needs to be much better community engagement
00:38 and consultation than there has been in the past.
00:42 It's always better if you bring communities with you.
00:47 I'll be having a chat after this meeting
00:49 with one of the groups who wrote to me
00:52 and asked to have a meeting.
00:57 Solar panels and wind turbines, of course,
01:01 can't be imposed on anyone's land.
01:03 The issue of transmission lines is a different one.
01:07 It can bring, of course, economic benefit for people.
01:12 We do need to deal with the transition
01:17 and that's something that the former minister
01:21 acknowledged very clearly as well
01:24 and was speaking about when Angus Taylor was the minister.
01:29 But we need to always try to do our best,
01:34 whether it's the private sector taking action
01:37 or governments, to consult with people
01:40 because you have better outcomes as well.
01:42 - One of the things that came up was
01:44 you have a property on one side
01:47 where the energy provider is dealt with in fair terms,
01:52 but the property adjacent feels just as affected by it,
01:55 but they haven't been able to benefit.
01:57 So it's a tough one and you're right,
01:59 it was the former state coalition government
02:01 that set this up.
02:02 But I think people here wanna hear
02:04 that you've made the trouble of coming here,
02:07 that it's something that's gonna be on your agenda.
02:10 - Sure, and one of the things
02:11 that I've been determined to do
02:14 is to visit communities right around Australia,
02:18 regardless of who the local member is,
02:21 I was in Horsham a few weeks ago,
02:24 it was Ulladulla, this afternoon I'm flying from here
02:28 to Mount Isa for the rodeo with Bob Catter,
02:31 what could go wrong?
02:32 (audience laughing)
02:35 It's 100 years of Mount Isa
02:41 and the rodeo there,
02:44 it's been locked in the diary for a long time.
02:47 My staff are very nervous about this idea
02:49 of being with Bob Catter at the rodeo,
02:51 but we'll see what happens.
02:54 - That'll be fun.
02:55 - Could be an interesting front page
02:57 of your sister paper, the Courier Mail,
03:00 tomorrow of me and Bob Catter on a ball or something.
03:03 - Well, if you get on there, we'll run it too.
03:05 - A telegraph, I mean.
03:07 - It's fantastic.
03:08 We've got heaps of questions coming in.
