00:09 The Department of Agriculture is hoping that the price of rice will continue to fall

00:13 in the continued talk of the Philippines in Vietnam and India.

00:19 The price of rice has increased

00:24 based on the latest price monitoring of the Department of Agriculture in their families in Metro Manila.

00:30 The regular milled rice, the cheapest commercial rice, has almost increased to Php 50 per kilo.

00:37 In Agora Market in Navotas City, the price of rice has already reached Php 50 per kilo

00:42 from Php 48 per kilo last week.

00:45 In Sangadaan Market, the price of rice has increased to Php 3 per kilo within a week.

00:52 The price of rice has been increasing continuously.

00:55 It is not yet known when it will fall again.

00:59 The Philippine Rice Industry Stakeholders Movement of Prism said

01:02 that hundreds of metric tons of rice will arrive in the country this August.

01:07 We have assured the President that at least 300,000 metric tons is coming in this month of August

01:14 and there will be more in September.

01:16 But they have said that 300,000 metric tons will arrive in August and September.

01:21 But Prism is not sure if this will help to lower the price of rice.

01:27 That's the challenge, the price.

01:31 The price of rice has shot up in the world market.

01:35 India, when they export rice, 40 percent of the supply of rice from the world comes from India.

01:44 Vietnam promised to sell cheap rice in the Philippines,

01:48 according to House Speaker Martin Rumbaldes.

01:51 According to Agriculture Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban,

01:55 the price of rice in the country is expected to fall

01:58 due to the continuous talks between the Philippines, Vietnam and India.

02:02 But for the Federation of Free Farmers Cooperative,

02:04 they cannot just hold their tongue.

02:07 That is just a diplomatic chit-chat.

02:11 Of course, they will supply because they need to sell their surplus.

02:16 But at what price?

02:18 If other countries are offering, let's say, $700 per ton, do you think they will sell it to us at 500?

02:28 The group in charge of rice is asking why the government still pays attention to importation

02:34 instead of strengthening local rice production.

02:38 The group also cannot understand why the price of rice is reaching 34 pesos,

02:46 as it is far from the real price of rice for farmers.

02:50 In Calapan, 1 kilo of rice is P21.50.
