Arab Sarai, in Nizamuddin, is believed to have been built in the 16th century to house the craftsmen building the Humayun’s Tomb. During times of war, the sarais looked like forts. But during times of peace, they were intricate architectural wonders. Very little of the sarai architecture exists today. Just a stone’s throw from Humayun’s Tomb, this cluster of baolis, gateways, tombs and mosques holds this historic city’s architectural secrets.
