00:00 Switching gears now more no more summertime sleeping in a children's
00:06 across the nation are setting their alarms a bit earlier today. I apparently
00:09 didn't set my alarm. Correct. More coffee. I do. Yes. 23 abc's Ava
00:13 Kirshner is live at Crescent Elementary with more on what your kid needs to
00:17 succeed this year. Ava.
00:18 Hey guys. Yeah. As you can see, we've got my hair net on. We're ready to go.
00:26 We're in the kitchen here at Crescent Elementary School ready to cook up some
00:29 delicious and nutritious food. And I do want to say these cafeteria workers are
00:34 kind of the unsung heroes of the school. They're delivering nutritious meals to
00:38 your kids every single day. And so we decided to bring them some slightly
00:43 unnutritious meals here. We got some cookies for you guys. School book
00:46 cookies as I believe. So here you go. Thank you for all your hard work that
00:50 you guys do. You guys really do deserve it. And so talking about that work, what
00:54 is your favorite part of the job? Probably feeding the kids that are
00:58 hungry. There's a lot that this is the only meal they're going to get today.
01:02 Um,
01:04 cooking for the kids and have ready that food for them when they come and
01:12 grab that food. And Jorge, what about you? Well, something that's as important
01:17 as food, maybe a smile for them to have to help them to have a better day.
01:22 They're serving up nutritious meals and smile. So what is on the menu for
01:27 today? Well, today for breakfast is going to be waffle sticks and sausage.
01:31 And for lunch is going to be chicken filet burgers. Delicious. And so tell
01:36 me one more thing. What does it take to do your job? A lot of parents don't
01:39 know what you guys go through every day. Um, it takes being on your feet all
01:43 day. Um,
01:45 uh, trying to wear a smile for the kids so that they don't see that we're
01:50 stressed out in the kitchen. Um,
01:53 you guys,
01:56 well, maybe something that they don't don't know. It's that we cook things
02:01 food from scratch sometimes. So, um, that's something important to very
02:06 impressive, very impressive. And later they'll tell me how to restructure my
02:09 hair net. So I actually wear it right. But for now, I'm gonna send it back to
02:12 you guys live in Southeast Bakersfield. Ava Kirschner, 23 bc News connecting
