Stephen Morgan, Shadow Schools minister Interview, says that "we've seen a managed decline from the government on education standards where young people across the country are missing out on the top grades". His comments come as thousands of students in England have missed out on top marks in their A-levels as results dropped across the country after the government's reversal of pandemic-era grade inflation. 00:00 Well, first of all, congratulations to all students that got their results yesterday.
00:03 I want to thank our teachers and school support staff for their tremendous hard work in getting
00:08 young people to where they were yesterday.
00:11 They faced significant challenges and so many hurdles in their way, with a government that
00:16 said that they'd maxed out support for children, that didn't take action to address the industrial
00:22 action and a failed tutoring programme.
00:25 And what we saw yesterday were unequal results across the country, with almost 40% of young
00:31 people in London and the South East getting the top grades, but in other parts of the
00:35 country children really missing out on those top grades.
00:38 And I think what we've seen is a managed decline from this government on education standards,
00:43 where young people across the country are missing out on the top grades.
