00:00 Some groups are calling for the stop of reclamation in Manila Bay.
00:05 They are fighting for the safety and livelihood of some fishermen in Navotas
00:10 who are reaching their youth just to catch fish.
00:14 Jonathan Andar is on the spot.
00:16 State Manila Bay, no to reclamation!
00:24 Unlike last year, there are no more fish caught near Navotas, Simangjudi.
00:30 So now, he is reaching Bulacan and almost reaching his youth just to catch fish.
00:36 His expenses for oil are increasing.
00:38 Before, we would only spend P700, P800. Now, we spend P2,000 for gasoline.
00:44 The fish are far away.
00:46 He thinks it has something to do with the reclamation activity in their area.
00:50 The fish they catch are now being caught.
00:54 It is possible that the reclamation of fisheries will be affected
00:57 according to Dr. Eugene Herrera of UP National Hydraulic Research Center.
01:01 Because the water entering the sea is blocked
01:05 and it can affect the salinity of the water in the shallow areas.
01:09 The shallow areas of bays are the breeding grounds for aquatic flora and fauna
01:18 that depend on some salinity levels.
01:22 So, it has an environmental effect.
01:27 Mang Ado was paid P200,000 by a company to build his farm.
01:34 He will pass through a ship loaded with sand.
01:37 We have nothing to do. We just accept it.
01:40 We built it, but it's gone.
01:43 We are looking for a new life. We are still losing.
01:45 The former owner of the farm is now a worker in another farm.
01:51 The other residents of Navotas are afraid of the flood.
01:55 The whole Bulacan is a state of calamity because of the flood.
01:59 We don't want our place to be affected.
02:04 Earlier, a group of people from Navotas protested in Manila Bay.
02:09 They called for the government to issue a law or executive order
02:13 and not to suspend reclamation projects in Manila Bay verbally.
02:17 They will not be suspended until they see big ships loaded with sand
02:23 that are a threat to their livelihood.
02:25 We are trying to get a permission from the DINR about this.
