Can we work in silos, and hope to change the entire ecosystem of travel in India? Can we mainstream planet-friendly and community-friendly travel by continuing to ignore the biggest players in the industry? Surely not!

So we invited the top brass at two of the largest travel companies in India, @MakeMyTrip.com and @OYO, to the table at the Outlook Responsible Tourism Summit & Awards 2019 to join the conversation on responsibility.
Yes, we can’t turn tourism on its head in a day, but we ought to make a start somewhere!

Rajesh Magow, Co-founder & CEO, @makemytrip India and Aditya Ghosh, CEO @oyorooms, India & South Asia share their ideas at the Outlook Responsible Tourism Summit 2019 #irta2019 #wtm

00:03 Are large travel companies responsible enough?
00:11 The answer is no.
00:12 Most of the young leaders who are managing these businesses
00:16 genuinely are interested in trying to make it better.
00:19 After doing an air booking on our platform,
00:22 we started showing what can be attributed to you
00:25 in terms of carbon footprints in the emission box, et cetera.
00:28 So we tied up with GiveIndia, also tied up with Seva,
00:31 Mandir, and started planting trees.
00:34 We want to put in rainwater harvesting facilities
00:37 in more than 80% of the OYO hotels and homes in Shimla.
00:42 The need arises from the fact that you
00:45 improve the experience.
00:47 A lot of the tourism actually might go out
00:49 if we don't do a better job domestically.
00:53 If we don't do our bit, those destinations won't be around.
00:56 There will be no tourism hospitality business.
