00:02 - What's up Kern County?
00:05 It's Ryan Nelson and you are watching Kern Living.
00:08 On today's episode, we're sitting with our friends
00:10 and family from Omni Family Health,
00:11 but I'm gonna let today's guest introduce himself.
00:13 - My name is James Artis.
00:14 I'm an optometrist with Omni Family Health.
00:17 - Awesome, now today we are talking
00:18 about National Eye Exam Month.
00:20 Wanted to make sure I got it right.
00:21 Can you tell me a little bit about it?
00:23 - Sure, National Eye Exam Month is celebrated
00:25 every single year in August since 1989.
00:29 It aims to raise awareness of the importance
00:32 of regular eye exams to remind everyone
00:34 to go get their vision checked.
00:35 - Okay, now speaking about kids,
00:38 oftentimes we don't hear, you know,
00:39 my child needs to get their eyes checked,
00:41 but what age should children get their eyes checked?
00:44 - Usually between the ages of three and five,
00:46 we want to have the first eye exam.
00:48 A lot of the times if we do an eye exam earlier in life,
00:51 it can prevent issues later in life.
00:53 - And how often should kids get their eyes checked?
00:55 - Usually about every two years, but kids grow quick.
00:58 So if they ever complain that the glasses
01:00 aren't working anymore or their vision
01:02 is just a little bit blurry, come in for a checkup.
01:05 - Now that's great for kids, but what about adults?
01:07 - Adults, every two years.
01:09 However, some diseases require yearly dilated eye exams.
01:13 Diseases such as diabetes require yearly exams
01:16 to make sure that nothing is changing inside the eye.
01:19 - If Omni does find something and you need glasses,
01:22 do they sell them?
01:23 - Absolutely, we have different sizes, styles, shapes.
01:26 We even have sunglasses.
01:28 We also have some designer frames such as Prada and Coach.
01:31 - That is awesome.
01:32 Thank you so much for all of this information.
01:34 Now, if somebody's watching and they're like,
01:35 "You know what?
01:36 I need to get my eyes checked,"
01:37 or "I need my kids to get their eyes checked,"
01:38 how can they get in contact with you all?
01:40 - Absolutely, you can contact us at 866-707-6664.
01:45 Check us out online.
