00:00 An expert has a warning about the reclamation projects in Manila Bay.
00:04 The project is not bad, but it should be done properly
00:07 and the water flow from the watersheds and rivers should not be blocked.
00:11 We have the first news, Mackie Pulido.
00:14 This February, a portion of the reclamation project in Pasay City from the US Embassy was looted.
00:24 Now, the looting is higher and the reclaimed portion is longer.
00:28 From Himpapawid, the area of the reclamation project is vast.
00:32 From a hotel to the back of a mall complex in Pasay.
00:37 Next year, the looting should end at more than 300 hectares
00:42 if it is not temporarily stopped for the review of the DENR.
00:46 Aside from Pasay, Manila, Paranaque, Baco, or Cavite, Navotas, and Bulacan have pending reclamation projects.
00:52 The architect and urban planner, June Palafox, said that she sometimes recommended the stop of the reclamation in Manila Bay in 1976
01:01 as part of the World Bank team that reviewed the looting there.
01:04 That is until some issues were not resolved.
01:07 As an important possibility, the reclamation of the water flow from the watersheds and rivers to Manila Bay should not be blocked.
01:16 The fishermen who were caught should not be left alone.
01:20 But it is one of the important things.
01:22 So preferably, there should be a water channel, maybe as wide as Pasig River, between the mainland and the islands.
01:33 And the bridges between the islands and the mainland should have vertical cradles,
01:38 high enough for huge, big cargo ships and cruise ships.
01:45 Palafox cannot say if the issue was resolved because she did not study the plan for the pending reclamation projects.
01:52 She also did not learn about reclamation.
01:54 Just design and implement it correctly, like what has been done in other countries.
01:59 The reclamation should be planned in the context of the whole city.
02:03 The issue was, one, do it in context, metropolitan context.
02:09 It should not be done in isolation.
02:11 From ridge to reef, from the top of the mountain, the highlands, midlands, lowlands, then the coastline.
02:19 Because there is an impact there.
02:20 The Philippine Reclamation Authority has not yet announced the DENR.
02:25 This is the first news. Mackie Pulido for GMA Integrated News.
