Sheffield street safety: What is Sheffield's most dangerous road?

The Star's David Kessen asked members of the public which road in Sheffield they think is most dangerous.

00:19 Yeah, around the Bongrieve area, Saville, Attencrive, that area, the road is quite wide

00:26 so some drivers really don't look carefully before they move.

00:34 Yeah, they go too quickly, yeah.

00:37 Can you tell me please what you think the most dangerous road is in Sheffield or around Saville?

00:44 Well you can take your pick because the traffic is pretty terrible and the councils have turned a lot of the roads.

00:53 They've blocked them off, they've made them in one way, they've made the town centre inaccessible.

00:57 So there is a lot of traffic now on smaller roads that are congested.

01:03 Whether you describe them as dangerous, they don't know that as a driver, it's frustrating.

01:10 Well, I don't know, it's Sol Road maybe, at Rush Hour.

01:14 Yeah, but you know, anywhere around Netheredge, they've shut quite a few roads down there

01:20 and a lot of the traffic now is spilling out into residential areas and the smaller roads.

01:26 Could you tell me what you think Sheffield's most dangerous road is please?

01:30 I would say City Road. There's not enough crossings on the road.

01:34 From Mallet Top all the way down to the bottom of it, all the way down to Duke Street.

01:41 I can imagine there's one, two, three, four, five, five crossings.

01:52 And if you try to get across City Road, the cars do actually travel far too fast on City Road.

01:59 I think it's the 40 mile an hour limit on City Road, but it should be brought down to 30 because it's a built up area.
