Serial rapist ex-Met officer Adam Provan jailed for 16 years
A former Met Police officer, Adam Provan, has been jailed for 16 years for raping a 16-year-old girl and raping a female colleague. Met Police Assistant Commissioner Louisa Rolfe OBE says the case was "shocking" as she apologises for the "pain and suffering" caused by Adam Provan. Report by Czubalam. 00:00 Like the public, I'm shocked and appalled by the conduct, behaviour of Adam Provan.
00:05 I'm sure that people will be as shocked as we are and I'm hoping that you can see our
00:14 determination to root these people out. We have been working incredibly hard to ensure that we
00:20 do everything we can to identify people who really should not be a police officer. So with other
00:26 forces nationally, we've been doing many things. One, reviewing our processes of vetting, ensuring
00:33 that when people raise a concern, both serving officers, about colleagues, but also members of
00:38 the public, that we work quickly and that we take those concerns very seriously and that we focus
00:45 upon offending behaviour, that things are not brushed under the carpet or ignored, that we take
00:51 it very seriously. You'll have seen more offences like this coming to light, which of course saddens
00:59 us. It is a sad reality that a small number of people are attracted to this job for the wrong
01:05 reason. But also ensuring that when these concerns are raised, we review things like vetting processes,
01:12 that anyone subject to an investigation and allegation, their vetting is immediately reviewed.
01:18 We look to ensure that we don't miss opportunities to join the dots, to look at patterns of behaviour.
01:24 The courage and tenacity of victims in this case must be commended. To their tenacity in pursuing
01:32 justice and ensuring that this dangerous offender is now serving a significant custodial sentence,
01:38 it's down to their bravery and courage. And I am so sorry for the pain and suffering arising from
01:45 Adam Provan's offending behaviour. What I say to them is, I am sorry.
