00:00 I never thought I'd see. I'm just a small hot dog stand in Cape May, my man.
00:04 How's everything going?
00:05 Going well.
00:06 Good, good. I like your hat.
00:07 Thanks.
00:08 Alright.
00:09 You want to turn around and say goodbye?
00:11 Hi guys.
00:12 Welcome.
00:13 Take me out for some hot dogs.
00:16 Alright.
00:18 Hot dogs at the shore.
00:21 And you know,
00:23 there's not one place in New Jersey that's more famous
00:27 than Hot Dog Tommy's.
00:28 All the way down south.
00:32 You can't get much further south.
00:34 You go any further south, you're in the Atlantic Ocean.
00:37 We're here in Cape May, New Jersey,
00:39 and this is Hot Dog Tommy's.
00:41 Open every year in the summer,
00:43 and they've got a colorful character,
00:45 kind of a kindred spirit running the place.
00:47 Hot dog!
00:48 Yeah, I thought you'd say okay.
00:50 And they serve Burke's Hot Dogs here.
00:53 And this has been a part of the Cape May experience.
00:56 I mean, you look around here, the buildings are old.
00:59 It just feels like a throwback in time.
01:02 Beach community, southernmost part of New Jersey.
01:05 We're going to see just how good Hot Dog Tommy's is,
01:08 and if it's worth this long line.
01:11 Let's go, we're all going.
01:13 100% worth that line.
01:15 [music]
01:42 Good to get you, my man. Welcome to Hot Dog Tommy's.
01:45 How can we serve you today?
01:47 I'd like two leaner beaners, one plain epionics,
01:52 one chili and cheese, Stewart's orange cream to drink.
01:55 You've been telling me to come down here a long time.
01:58 Thank you very much. How you been?
02:00 Great, great to see you. Thanks for coming down and checking us out here.
02:04 I make everything on the dogs, I even make the sauces for you.
02:07 I'll give you some of my french fries.
02:09 And a little blue in a box. Beautiful.
02:12 I'm going to stop on a trolley if you give me a second. Let's do it.
02:15 Hi everybody, welcome to Cape May. Thanks for spending the day with us today.
02:19 How long have you been here?
02:24 I've owned it for eight, but we've owned the business for 20 years since we've been here.
02:28 Hot Dog Tommy's has been in Cape May for 20 years.
02:32 They have a new guy that's running it now about 10 years.
02:35 His name is Bruce.
02:39 He is a colorful hot dog loving character.
02:42 He says, "Relish today, catch up tomorrow."
02:46 I say, "Do neither."
02:48 We're here to raw dog. We've been raw dogging for four years now.
02:51 We just keep finding colorful characters on the road.
02:55 Look at this hot dog. The hot dog, the bun ratio.
02:58 This is the standard dog.
03:01 They also have a bad dog, which is a big plump dog.
03:04 We're just going to standard dogs today.
03:06 The leaner wieners.
03:08 The hot dog, the bun ratio is good.
03:12 Let's see the most important part. They use Burke's Hot Dogs.
03:15 They come from Pennsylvania.
03:19 The biggest, loudest truck in the world is going by.
03:22 A garbage truck went by. It didn't make that much noise.
03:29 This big ass truck is now making this noise.
03:31 Let's see how these hot dogs are.
03:34 This hot dog is without a doubt a triple.
03:56 It's hard to find good hot dogs by the beach.
03:59 They have been voted the best hot dog down the Jersey Shore.
04:03 Here's the chili and cheese hot dog.
04:05 They put a lot of cheese on this.
04:07 It looks like they put a lot of shredded cheese on here.
04:13 Let's see. It's a lot of cheese.
04:16 He makes his own chili, by the way.
04:26 (truck engine)
04:29 I think this is another great item.
04:40 I think this is a triple.
04:42 Now let's try the fries out.
04:54 The fries are decent. I'm going to give the fries a 7.6.
04:58 He gave me two other dogs that are definitely not up my alley.
05:14 He gave me this one called a Meshugganah dog.
05:16 It's got potato chips, thousand island dressing, coleslaw.
05:21 I'm not going to like this hot dog.
05:23 I can tell you that right now.
05:25 Yeah, no.
05:29 I'm not going to strike it out.
05:31 I'll just say I don't like thousand island dressing.
05:34 I don't like coleslaw.
05:36 This is a hit by pitch.
05:40 The first time ever, a hit by pitch.
05:43 Take your base.
05:50 And this is something he calls a new dog.
05:53 It's got like nine ingredients in it.
05:55 None of them are ketchup.
05:57 With the chips again on it.
06:00 Some cheese on here.
06:02 Don't...
06:11 I'll give this a single.
06:14 It tastes good. You'll probably like it.
06:17 But...
06:19 But the ingredients, it tastes like mayo.
06:24 Food repellent.
06:26 But this is a great place to go.
06:32 They have solid hot dogs.
06:34 And if you're down in Cape May, and you've got to come to Cape May.
06:37 Cape May is just one hell of a place here.
06:39 It's the southernmost point of New Jersey.
06:41 I mean, things are different here.
06:45 And this is a colorful character.
06:47 One of the most colorful characters I've ever had.
06:49 The hot dogs are triples.
06:51 But Hot Dog Tommy himself, Hot Dog Girl, his name is actually Bruce.
06:54 He's a home run.
06:56 Cape May is colorful.
07:00 It's a throwback.
07:02 It's a different location.
07:04 You can't get much more south than this.
07:06 And if you're in Cape May, you must check out Hot Dog Tommy.
07:10 Colorful character. Colorful.
07:12 One of the most colorful characters I've ever had.
07:14 One of the most colorful characters.
07:16 And it's almost like I feel like I'm looking in the mirror with a hot dog hat.
07:20 But if you know Ed, this is a place that was recommended to me for a long time.
07:24 And we've been doing this now for four years.
07:27 Hard to believe we've been doing it for four years.
07:29 All the way back to that halal truck where I spiked my first hot dog.
07:33 With Crocs kit.
07:35 But you know, we're going to be doing more reviews.
07:38 So leave a comment down below where I should go next.
07:40 Don't forget to click, like and subscribe.
07:44 And see you down the road.
07:46 I think I'm going to go check out this beach.
07:49 Take me out for some hot dogs.
07:57 Get me one that's only plain.
08:00 No mustard or horseradish ketchup.
08:04 I'll know what the dog is really about.
08:07 And it's hoped that this is a good one.
08:11 Maybe a home run or a double.
08:14 But if it sucks, it will be a strikeout.
08:17 And I'm worried of my taste buds.
