00:00 In his press conference, Tony Mowry was asked about the potential of young goal scorer Job Bellingham.
00:06 Just on Job Bellingham, of course, he was the star on Saturday, and he is only 17,
00:11 you've only worked with him for, well, a handful of weeks in total,
00:14 but can you already see the potential that he has?
00:17 He was brought to the football club because the people who worked in Birmingham
00:21 had seen him very closely and knew the family very well,
00:24 and Birmingham were happy to do a deal.
00:27 I think he's a really young boy, I'm not sure you see he was the star,
00:31 he scored the two goals, we played him the highest player on the pitch, really,
00:37 and he had to get in the box, and he did get in the box,
00:40 and if you think back to the goals, they weren't tap-ins,
00:44 he was basically there in the middle of the goal,
00:46 first one for a header back from Dan Neal, who made an amazing run from deep in midfield,
00:52 he just nodded back to him to beat the goalkeeper from six yards,
00:55 and the second one, Dak just cut a little ball back for him to side foot in the corner,
00:59 so I think we have to be careful in thinking that he's a star,
01:03 he's a young boy working really hard and wants to get better,
01:06 and he's got lots to get better at,
01:08 so I think he's just an England that will be in and out of this team as the season unfolds.
01:13 Sunderland's squad comprises of lots of young talent,
01:16 but given the nature of the championship,
01:18 Mowbray spoke about adding experience to the squad.
01:21 Of course you've got an awful lot of young talent in this squad,
01:24 and you did last season as well, but would you like more experience to come in
01:27 if there were to be signings?
01:29 I think it's all about a balance, really.
01:32 We've got some experienced players at the football club who are not in the team at the moment,
01:36 either through injury or just non-selection.
01:39 The club's model is to sign young footballers, and I signed up for that,
01:45 so I don't want to sit here kicking and screaming that we want a lot of experienced players in the building.
01:50 I do think the experience helps the young players understand the game better.
01:55 The club, the balance is maybe a little bit off at the moment,
01:59 but I think there's scope, and I hope over the next week or so
02:03 you'll see that we sign an experienced player or two.
02:06 Opponents Coventry have won, drawn and lost so far this season,
02:09 following their play-off penalty heartbreak at the end of last season.
02:13 Mowbray was asked about how his young side would deal with coming up
02:16 against an opposition with plenty of prowess.
02:19 Finally, as mentioned, Coventry had a great season last year.
02:23 How do you adapt and how do you challenge them?
02:26 We go and play our game. We've studied them.
02:31 They've got wing-backs who are quite aggressive and attack,
02:36 but they're a real threat, and we have to be mindful of that threat
02:39 and not over-commit, not get too confident with the ball or have too much of it,
02:43 and we'll see how the game pans out.
02:46 Despite two losses in their first two fixtures,
02:49 Tony Mowbray and his Sunderland side will know just how important
02:53 getting that first win against Rotherham was.
02:56 They will hope it will be the catalyst to kick-start their season,
02:59 especially with time still left in the transfer window.
03:02 Kick-off is at 3pm.
