00:53 Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:55 I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur headquarters in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:58 We'll be back with the news.
00:59 Stay with us.
01:15 Colombian President Gustavo Petro met on Monday with his Costa Rican counterpart Rodrigo
01:19 Chavez and with the head of the Inter-American Corps of Human Rights in the capital of San
01:24 Jose.
01:25 The meetings take place during a two-day visit by the Colombian President to the Central
01:28 American nation following an invitation by his Costa Rican counterpart Rodrigo Chavez.
01:34 The leaders of the two nations agreed to work together to defend their coffee in the world's
01:39 market.
01:40 According to Gustavo Petro, the agreement seeks to obtain greater income from the emblematic
01:44 products of both countries at a time when the international price of grain and the exports
01:49 of both nations are failing.
01:51 We discussed very, very strategic matters such as climate change, peace for the region
02:06 and taking a huge amount of resources away from the black people.
02:18 We have discussed even more complex issues like migration, a new and growing phenomenon
02:24 on which we have to build a common Latin American policy.
02:30 Colombian authorities report having seized around 640 tons of drugs so far in 2023.
02:36 According to the operational results provided by the defense authorities along with the
02:39 military leaders in aspects such as drug size and illegal mining in the first month of 2023,
02:46 the National Navy managed to size up to 4 percent higher than the tons of cocaine signs
02:52 in the same period of 2022.
03:00 Brazilian President Vicente Ignacio Lula da Silva has announced that he will sign a bill
03:05 that marks a permanent and regular rejection of the minimum wage.
03:09 On August 24th, the Senate approved the temporary provision of minimum wage judgment.
03:15 The temporary order terminated the value of the new minimum paid out of 1,320 reais, about
03:21 272 US dollars, an increase of 2.8 percent of an amount set during the previous administration
03:28 of Jair Bolsonaro.
03:29 In the United States, in the southern state of Florida, a helicopter crashed on Monday
03:40 on a small apartment building.
03:42 The accident took place in Montparno Beach, north of Miami.
03:46 The helicopter caught fire and sent a camouflage in the mid-air.
03:51 The two people on board have been taken to the hospital.
03:54 On the ground were also injured and there is at least one fatality.
04:00 In the United States, a faculty member of the University of North Carolina was reported
04:09 dead on Monday after shooting in the campus of that learning institution.
04:13 Chancellor Kevin Kitzmich-Skewitz said at a Monday evening news conference that shots
04:20 were reported at 1 p.m. local time at the school's caudill laboratories and that a suspect
04:26 had been taken into custody shortly after 2.30 p.m.
04:30 Officials reported no injuries or other fatalities.
04:54 And despite U.S. sanctions on Western media and a relief of the sprawling economy, Venezuela
05:00 thrives thanks to its resilience and the strength of its people.
05:04 To showcase the reality of the South American nation beyond misconceptions or fake news,
05:09 Tulsa presents the serious Venezuelan move to re-invent the nation from north to south,
05:14 from the mountains to the plain land.
05:17 In our first episode, our colleague Adriana Cibori takes us to Portugal's state where
05:21 the prosperity arises from corn fowl.
05:27 In oil-rich Venezuela, corn is planted.
05:29 It is part of Venezuelans' daily diet and depending on the variety, is also used for
05:34 animal feed.
05:38 Its cultivation responds to climate behavior.
05:40 However, experts assure that with good soil moisture management is well maintained.
05:47 The land here is privileged with very good yields.
05:53 In previous years, we have been declining, but we are trying to get ahead with good production
05:58 and good yields.
06:02 Production seems to be advancing in the center of the nation, where Los Maneres is located,
06:07 one of the private farms that produces corn.
06:09 Antonio works here.
06:11 He's an expert in crop specialist.
06:16 I graduated in 2018, but I have been working with my father since I was a child.
06:22 A great teacher with empirical knowledge, very valuable to put into practice here, and
06:27 greatly complements the scientific knowledge the university gave me.
06:32 They carefully check each plant.
06:34 This farm is expecting this year's production of corn cob to exceed 9,000 kilograms.
06:42 Normal plague, and here is the will of God as we say.
06:45 Everything is normal here.
06:47 Everything is out of danger.
06:48 The only thing left to do is to remove weeds, but everything is under control.
06:54 Corn is the most important crop in the agricultural sector, which increased by 52 percent, something
07:00 that was achieved despite the blockade imposed by the United States, according to government
07:05 data.
07:06 We already have businessmen from Argentina, from China, from Turkey, from Uruguay, who
07:11 are cultivating in alliance with our producers.
07:14 It was not that they came here and grabbed the land.
07:17 No, no.
07:18 It is with our producers financing that production, which was one of the drawbacks we had regarding
07:25 financing, because if we did not have any revenue with reeds, how could we finance ourselves,
07:31 right?
07:33 In this Caribbean country, according to government data, the overall cereal production grew by
07:39 48 percent compared to the previous year.

08:15 Poland and the Baltic States members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization warned
08:19 that they will close borders with Belarus in the event of any military incident or a
08:24 massive migration push by Minsk.
08:26 The governments of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia argued that the warnings were
08:32 due to growing tensions with NATO and European Union borders with Belarus, with allied troops
08:38 which they claim are diverting Africans and Middle Eastern migrants to Europe despite
08:43 established barriers.
08:44 On the other hand, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that if the Lithuanian, Latvians
08:54 or the Polish authorities close their borders with Belarus, they will only harm themselves
09:00 and their citizens.
09:02 The head of state stressed that Belarus is a peaceful country and has no pretensions
09:08 towards its western neighbors, reiterating that Belarus does not need Polish, Lithuanian
09:13 or Latvian lands as his country does not work through any of them.
09:23 French President Emmanuel Macron said that his ambassador will remain in a year despite
09:28 the expiration of the interim government's ultimatum.
09:31 The French head of state said that Paris condemns the cube and will not change its position
09:37 and asserts that it will continue its full support to President Mohamed Bassin.
09:42 Macron added that the French ambassador did not heed the ultimatum as he considers, but
09:48 the other did not come from legitimate authorities.
09:51 "We have to be clear, coherent, consistent, otherwise who will listen to us?
10:00 In which African capitals will they be able to say that we have a policy of partnership
10:05 with the leader if when something like this happens we cannot support him?
10:10 So I think our policy is the right one.
10:12 It is based on the courage of President Bassin and the commitment of our diplomats and our
10:17 ambassador on the ground, who stand firm despite the pressure."
10:21 French President also reminded that his country does not recognize or support of push-ins
10:27 governments under any circumstances.
10:30 "Our policy is simple.
10:32 We do not recognize the Bulgists.
10:35 We support a president who has not resigned, to whom we remain committed, and we support
10:41 the diplomatic actions and, if decided, the military actions of ECOWAS, in a partnership
10:47 approach which is the one I presented last February."
10:49 In the United Kingdom, the Interior Ministry considers attached an electronic track device
10:56 to irregular asylum seekers.
10:57 UK officials have been forced to consider new measures as they fear that they will soon
11:02 run out of spaces in migration detention centres and asylum accommodations, seeking to push
11:09 Richardson and Snow to stop both laws into effect.
11:14 The illegal migration order states that those arriving illegally in the UK must be detained
11:19 and removed and taken to run their own safe third country while their asylum requests
11:24 are being processed.
11:26 India's government reported that trade between New Delhi and Moscow grew by 190% on its first
11:40 half of 2023.
11:41 According to the United Nations Ministry of Trade and Industry, the growth reached $33.5
11:46 billion between January and July this year.
11:50 During the period, import of Russian sub-products in India reached $31.5 billion, three times
11:56 more than in the first half of 2022.

12:32 moving northwards at 13 kilometers per hour with maximum sustained winds reaching 110 kilometers
12:38 per hour.
12:39 Cuba's National Civil Defense issued a hurricane alarm for the provinces of Pinar del Río,
12:44 Artemisas and the Island of Uz and began operations to brace for the effects of strong approach
12:52 to the national territory.
12:53 More than half of European ski resorts are bound to face serious lack of snow due to
13:03 the high temperatures.
13:05 The announcement was made by a group of specialists who warned that winter's tourist industry
13:11 will face greater challenges if temperatures rise to decrease also some of the pre-industrial
13:16 levels.
13:17 The team also warned that a common solution of producing artificial snow will only compensate
13:22 practicals such as the lack of snow.

14:12 Welcome back.
14:13 Libya's unity government temporarily suspends its top diplomat, Nayel Manshoud, after her
14:19 unexpected meeting with her Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen.
14:22 The high council of state described the meeting as an offense to the rich history of struggle
14:28 by the Libyan people in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
14:31 The government body urged all the competent authorities to take the necessary measures
14:35 and responsibility.
14:36 Following the decision, government authorities announced the launching of an administrative
14:41 investigation to be carried out by the commission, prised over by the minister of justice.
14:46 In this context, on Monday, Libyan prime minister visited the Palestinian embassy in the capital
14:56 Tripoli to offer his country's continued support for the Palestinian cause.
15:00 This visit came after the operation suspended foreign minister Nayel Manshoud and referred
15:06 her for an investigation over a meeting last week with her Israeli counterpart in Italy.
15:10 Manshoud not failed the country a day after Israel revealed the visiting.
15:16 News that prompted scattered street protests in chaos stricken North African nations.
15:21 In the UN, special representative Tamalee El-Ghashwayne says the second phase of the
15:33 withdrawal of UN peacekeepers from the country will be challenging.
15:36 The UN representative said the size of the convoys, involving hundreds of lorries and
15:42 landers, travel over when hospitable Turans leave them vulnerable.
15:49 The UN peacekeeping mission, known as MINUSMA, has until December 31 to exit Mali after a
15:55 decade of struggling to stabilize the country's security environment, aimed at the Palestinian
16:02 rebellion.
16:03 "The mission continues to encourage parties to reach an agreement to avoid unnecessary
16:11 incidents whose consequences could be considerable.
16:16 Such incidents would complicate the withdrawal process, negatively impact the work of UN
16:22 bodies following the mission's closure, and seriously impair prospects for the resumption
16:28 of the implementation of the peace agreements."
16:31 Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Buhar told troops in Port Sudan on Monday the time
16:38 has come to end the rebellion by the military's promising victory four months into a brutal
16:43 war.
16:44 The army chief comments come a day after his deputy-turned-rival Mohamed Hamad Daglo released
16:50 a statement detailing a 10-point vision to end a world and build a new state.
16:56 Last call supports Fulano's rule based on democratic norms and a single professional
17:01 link shown at a military institution, the very striking point which turns the former
17:06 allies into rivals.
