00:00 More than 22 million students enrolled in the opening of classes this year, according to the Department of Education.
00:09 A reunion for some, but there are also people who feel the "back to school blues".
00:15 The other thing is, on the first day of the school year, Ian Cruz performed live. Ian?
00:26 Mel, because of the large number of students, there are classes that are shifting, like here in Batasan Hills National High School.
00:35 There are other students who cannot avoid the separation anxiety from their parents on the first day of class.
00:42 Here in Batasan Hills National High School, which is one of the largest high schools in the country,
00:51 more than 18,000 students study in the Junior and Senior High.
00:56 After 4.30 in the morning, many students entered early.
01:01 There are those in covered court while most are in the classroom.
01:06 There is a shortage of classrooms, so classes are limited to morning and afternoon shifts.
01:12 According to the principal, there are 54 classrooms that are lacking, so full face-to-face classes are not possible.
01:19 The first shift starts at 6am to 12.20pm and the second shift is from 1pm to 7.20pm.
01:27 Most classes are doing blended learning, aside from students in the special program.
01:33 In the Junior High, there are sections with set A and set B,
01:37 where they are in the blended learning for three days in school and two days at home.
01:42 I need 45, so that the congestion can be avoided, eventually we can avoid the blended.
01:54 They might be able to provide this classroom for five days.
02:00 Mommy!
02:03 Some students in Kinder and Grade 1 of West Rambo Elementary School in Taguig are crying when they realize that their parents have sent them.
02:11 In the school, they can see the uniformed students from Makati, but there are bags from Taguig.
02:20 West Rambo Elementary School is one of the 14 MBO schools that are under Makati,
02:27 but the Supreme Court has decided to transfer them to Taguig.
02:31 DepEd does not see a problem if the students have assistance from two LGUs that can be used by the school.
02:38 Since we don't have a prescribed uniform, I told the school heads that if they are given two sets of uniforms,
02:46 then they can wear it in different scheduled days within the week.
02:51 DepEd's advice to the teachers of the visited MBO schools is not to force the LGUs to help you,
02:58 and to just force the children's willingness.
03:02 You focus on the side of the learning.
03:05 You focus on the side of the learners.
03:08 So whatever is for the benefit of the learners, that should be your priority.
03:13 In the 14 MBO schools visited by DepEd, the opening of the class is not a problem.
03:19 Mel, it's already night, but the class is still continuing here in Batasan Hills National High School.
03:30 This is the second shift, this is the class of the Grade 8 Star Section that will end later at 7.20 p.m.
03:40 That's the latest from Quezon City. Back to you, Mel.
03:43 Thank you very much, Ian Cruz.
