00:00 How do you think San Francisco's handled those quarterback situations?
00:02 How do you think they've handled them?
00:06 I'm Robin Lundberg joined now by Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
00:10 who joins us on behalf of USAA and Team Whistle as he just experienced a day in the life with
00:15 the US Air Force Thunderbirds at Nellis Air Force Base in Vegas and Jimmy definitely
00:20 want to get into that experience but how's Vegas as a whole been treating you?
00:23 Hey how's it going Robin? Real good, real good. I'm loving it out here.
00:27 It's a brand new experience, good people, really soaking it all in. I mean this 110 degree heat
00:35 gets old kind of quick but no other than that it's been incredible honestly. It's been fun.
00:41 Well you know it's a little colder in the winter time, still warm, so have you given any thoughts
00:47 to a home Vegas Super Bowl? Yeah, hell yeah. I mean it's happened what to a last couple of years
00:54 here so we'd love to keep that streak going here. What needs to happen for that to happen because
01:00 it's not exactly as if you guys are going into the season as one of those teams that's picked to do
01:06 that? Yeah, I think a big part of it is we just got to find our rhythm as a team. Really getting
01:12 it's you know there's some new faces around here, myself included, but guys are really it's a
01:18 tight-knit group here. It's been a lot of fun to just they've welcomed me with open arms,
01:23 getting used to everybody. The O-line has been a great group, skill guys in offense, defense is
01:27 really cool. So it's been a lot of fun man. We just got to find our rhythm though, get the season
01:32 rolling and now it starts to get fun. How happy are you to see the Josh Jacobs situation result?
01:38 Real happy. Got to meet him for the first time yesterday. He was in the building, you could tell
01:45 there's a different vibe in the building, in the air. It was really cool. High energy guy, just
01:51 fun guy to be around. I'm excited to get to get to work with him on the field man. It'll be a good
01:55 time. What did you guys say to each other when you first met? What did we say? I barely remember
02:02 what I had for breakfast man. I don't even remember. Just I was excited to meet him. I
02:07 heard a lot of good things. All these guys talk highly of him, the coaches, players.
02:10 So to meet him and have all that you know validated in a split second, you could just
02:15 feel the guy's energy. He was ready to roll. Well one thing you'll be able to remember is Tom Brady's
02:21 pep talk because it was all over social media. He's giving you a pep talk on the way to the
02:25 field as a starter. What's that like given your history going back to New England?
02:29 It was really cool getting to see him. Still has that same fiery spirit. He wanted to get out there,
02:38 you could tell. You could just feel it from in the locker room. I don't know. It was really cool
02:43 having him around. He's just a high energy guy. Brings a good vibe to the locker room. I mean
02:48 having him with this organization now it's a privilege honestly. He's won a lot. He knows
02:55 how to win. He knows what it takes. So to bring that into the Raiders organization,
02:59 I think it's only a good thing. You think it's been tough for him to stay retired?
03:02 I mean it's got to be a little bit man. The guy's a competitor. He
03:10 sure misses being out there a little bit but you'd have to ask him that.
03:13 Speaking of quarterbacks you have a connection with, what did you make of the the Trey Lance
03:17 Trey to Dallas? You know weird situation. Been a lot of weird situations over there in San Francisco
03:25 just to leave it at that. But you know I'm happy Trey got another shot man. I'm happy he's getting
03:30 to Dallas. Gets another opportunity. Hopefully things work out there but you know this is a
03:35 weird league. Everyone has a different story. How they get to places, myself included in that. Just
03:40 it's never a straight line. There's always going to be bumps in the road. Some things you got to
03:44 overcome and I think Trey's made of the right stuff. He's a good dude. Love that guy. He's a
03:48 brother to me so I'm always pulling for him. How do you think San Francisco's handled those
03:53 quarterback situations? How do you think they've handled them?
03:57 No I'm kidding. It's not. I think it's been messy. I'll put it that way.
04:03 Yeah that's a nice way to put it. No it's uh I mean it is what it is. You just uh as a player
04:11 you gotta make the best of your situations. We're all dealt with different situations,
04:15 weird situations, whatever it may be. But uh you know it's how you come out of it.
04:18 Makes you a better person in the end. You know Kyle Shanahan did have some nice words for you
04:24 recently. He said you were the best quarterback there maybe since Steve Young. How do you react
04:30 to that? Uh it's really cool. It's cool to hear uh you know with the lineage of quarterbacks
04:37 that the Niners have put out just uh just even be mentioned in that sentence. It's pretty cool
04:41 mentioned with those names uh yeah it's a legacy the quarterbacks that organization so just to be
04:48 in that conversation is pretty cool. Obviously you just had the cool experience working with USAA,
04:54 Team Whistle. I hear they're calling you Jimmy 9Gs now. Is that because you were in a fighter pilot?
05:00 You know a fighter jet way up in the sky? Yeah yeah uh USAA and uh Team Whistle they really
05:06 they hooked it up. Officials uh partners you know with the salute to service with the NFL.
05:11 It's um it was a unique experience man. It was something I was a little nervous about doing but
05:17 I knew I had to try it just uh once in a lifetime thing and after going through it you really see
05:22 what these these fighter pilots go through on a daily basis. I only got an hour experience of it
05:27 but I was wiped out for the next couple days. It was it's hard to describe what the 9Gs feels
05:34 like. I mean you just uh you lose feeling you start to lose vision for a little bit but it was
05:38 one of those things I told myself I had to do it. I had to experience it with my guy Flash and uh
05:42 you know he took care of me up there so it was a great experience though. You've recovered though.
05:47 You're ready for the season now right? Hell yeah man. I think I came out better on the other end.
05:52 There you go. Jimmy Garoppolo really appreciate the time. Good luck with the Raiders this year.
05:57 Definitely appreciate it Robin.
