We're not really feeling the heat here in Kern County but in SoCal, the heat wave continues with triple-digit temps in many areas.
Transcript
00:00 temperatures hit triple digits.
00:01 Feel like it's 100. It's pretty hot.
00:03 One of the few outdoor spaces where
00:04 you'll see a crowd is the pool.
00:06 It feels great.
00:07 The pool is a great way to cool off.
00:09 It's like I'm so happy they have this.
00:10 Dave Edsel swims laps at the Rose Bowl
00:12 Aquatic Center while his four year
00:14 old is taking swim lessons just outside.
00:16 Matthew Dame and his two girls are
00:18 just looking to escape the sun.
00:20 It's like around 99 degrees here today.
00:22 Pretty hot.
00:23 Yeah, what made you want to
00:24 come out to the playground?
00:25 Well, the girls have been inside
00:26 the apartment and we just kind of
00:28 got tired and said let's just go to
00:30 this most shaded place we could find.
00:32 And Rose Bowl is the most shaded place
00:34 for kids during the school day.
00:35 LA USD has done a lot to mitigate
00:37 the effects of the heat,
00:39 including installing air conditioning,
00:40 outdoor misters at elementary schools,
00:43 and building up shaded areas.
00:44 We have committed in excess of $60
00:47 million this year alone in planting
00:49 trees and creating outdoor environments,
00:52 ripping up asphalt and portables
00:54 and creating outdoor spaces.
