The Week Ahead with Yorkshire Post features writer John Blow
Transcript
00:00 Hi there, my name's John Blow from the Yorkshire Post Features Team and I'm going to be taking you through some of the things coming up in the week ahead.
00:06 First of all, MPs will be back in Westminster today as the House of Commons resumes business after summer recess and the Prime Minister's Cabinet reshuffle.
00:14 Included in the changes last week was Grant Shapps taking the role of Defence Secretary as colleague Claire Coutinho was installed in his former position, becoming new Energy Secretary.
00:24 The resumption is not for long, though, and Commons falls again after September 19th when MPs head out for conference season, returning October 16th.
00:34 Elsewhere, Sheffield's Arknit Monkeys are in the running for the Mercury Prize, which awards what's deemed to be the best album released by an artist from the United Kingdom or Ireland on Thursday.
00:45 The band first won the award in 2006 with their debut album, and their nod for the latest record, The Car, means that they tie the radio head as the most nominated artist in Mercury history at five times.
00:57 On Friday, the country will mark the first anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
01:03 Her son became King Charles III following her death aged 96 at Balmoral on September 8th last year.
01:10 Union flags will be flown on government buildings to mark the King's Accession Day anniversary over the weekend.
01:17 And lastly, discoveries await visitors to the Humber Science Festival.
01:23 The showcase takes place at the University of Hull campus and across the city from Thursday to Saturday.
