The Bako Market will be returning to Downtown Bakersfield on Saturday, September 2 at the Mechanics Bank Arena following the event's summer hiatus. On Friday afternoon, preparations were well underway. One of the vendors who will be present at the Bako Market is JuJu's Bakehouse owner Jocyl Tero. 23ABC's Sam Hoyle visited Taro to see how she's getting ready for the market.

00:00 Tomorrow marks the return of the Baco Market downtown after the event's summer hiatus.
00:05 23 ABC's Sam Hoyle takes us behind the scenes on how vendors prepare for an event like this.
00:11 On Saturday at Mechanics Bank Arena, this area right where I'm standing is going to look a little something like this.
00:17 But before this area can look a lot like that, for vendors it looks a little something like this.
00:24 Jocelyn Terra started baking as a hobby during the pandemic showcasing her cakes online.
00:31 And now it has blossomed.
00:33 My sister's like, "Why'd you buy this? You don't need this."
00:36 So it took me a few months to acquire these and then these were in the last two years.
00:45 Terra owns Juju's Bakehouse and now in addition to cakes, she does macarons.
00:48 I individually heat seal them so that they can last longer for our customers.
00:56 And these are my mango, my raspberry mango.
01:01 For a business owner like Terra that does not own a brick and mortar,
01:04 events like the Baco Market are crucial for getting the word out about their business.
01:09 They allow us to establish a connection with the general population
01:14 because right now, or before then, we were just on social media and we were getting word of mouth.
01:20 But these markets and the farmers markets allow us to have a different kind of population.
01:27 Anywhere from 10-year-olds to retirees, we get them out here and it's so much fun.
01:32 It's really cool to see what people create, what people develop, what people sell, artists.
01:40 I mean, you name it, we have it out here.
01:42 As Saturday nears, Terra is finishing up her preparations ahead of the market.
01:46 And though she is out there to make money, other benefits come from doling out her sweet treats.
01:51 It's amazing. So I enjoy making things and people enjoying them.
01:57 And I have a background of doing that even as I was younger.
02:02 But then when I started making cakes and macarons, it just, it fills me up.
02:07 The Baco Market returns to Centennial Plaza at Mechanics Bank Arena on Saturday from 9am to 2pm.
02:13 In Bakersfield, Sam Hoyle, 23ABC News, connecting you.
