There was a party Friday morning in the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market on East Brundage Lane in East Bakersfield. The staff were celebrating the store's recent remodel with a grand re-opening event that saw Walmart present several community organizations with grants. 23ABC's Steve Virgen reports.

00:26 These were among the highlights at an event to celebrate the remodeling of the Walmart
00:31 neighborhood market on Brundage Lane in East Bakersfield.
00:36 But more than that was the money that Walmart gifted to local organizations.
00:41 The Westchester Bakersfield Kiwanis Club, Bakersfield Memorial Foundation, JJ's Legacy,
00:48 and the Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic received grants that totaled $5,000.
00:55 Each organization was grateful.
00:57 They've been supporting our club for many years and the efforts that we make in the
01:00 community to support underprivileged children and veterans.
01:04 We are a volunteer community service club.
01:07 We have about 40 different projects so these funds go a long way.
01:10 $1,500 went to the Bakersfield Memorial Foundation.
01:14 Susan Hopkins, manager of philanthropy for the foundation, told the crowd the money was
01:19 needed for children's care.
01:21 So this will go to support the pediatric surgical suites which we're building so your kids can
01:26 have surgery in Bakersfield.
01:28 Mayor Karen Goh presented a proclamation to Walmart and store manager Brian Ackerman.
01:33 Ackerman says the remodeling was an 11-week project.
01:37 He's grateful for the facelift the market received and he hopes it attracts more customers.
