After smashing snow records last season, Utah ski resorts react to the first flakes of this season after a Labor Day storm.
Transcript
00:00 From the day that we closed in mid-June to first snowfall, it was 77 days.
00:04 Ski resorts in Utah saw their first dusting of snow on Monday, a sign that winter is coming,
00:10 and for Snowbird Resort, just outside of Salt Lake City, it's a good start toward a season
00:15 they hope will be as good as last year.
00:17 We smashed our all-time snow record with 838 inches of snow.
00:23 That's from when we opened in mid-November to when we closed on June 16th.
00:27 And not far away, Alta Ski Area put up even higher numbers.
00:31 75 feet of snow.
00:34 That is a lot of snow.
00:35 It was our snowiest on record, 903 inches.
00:39 Almost too much of a good thing.
00:41 There was just so much snow.
00:43 You can only push snow to so many places.
00:45 The Labor Day storm left only a dusting, but it was already providing a big pile of excitement.
00:51 So much excitement.
00:52 We had people asking if they could come ski it.
00:54 There definitely wasn't enough snow for that.
00:57 It's still really green up here.
00:59 Flowers are still blooming.
01:00 But when you get that first snowfall, it's almost like a kid gets giddy when Christmas
01:06 is coming up and you get all excited.
01:09 Both resorts are aiming for a November opening and another great snow season.
