00:00 Thousands of Filipino workers are in need in Taiwan
00:03 for the opening of jobs in the service and hospitality sector
00:07 and the Filipino-English teacher in demand there.
00:10 J.P. Soriano is on the scene.
00:12 I caught up with the documents being arranged
00:17 in the Manila Economic and Cultural Office here in Taipei
00:20 the OFW Janet,
00:22 who has been working as a caregiver for more than a decade.
00:25 She will extend another year
00:28 before retiring to the Philippines.
00:31 I built a house
00:33 and my parents built a house for me.
00:38 The excellence and dedication in the work of Filipinos like Janet
00:42 is the reason, according to the Labour Representative of the Philippines,
00:45 that's why Taiwan is eager to get more Filipino workers,
00:50 particularly in the service and hospitality sector
00:53 which is targeted to be expanded in the coming months.
00:56 The target is to get hundreds of thousands of Filipino workers from abroad
01:01 but one of the priorities of the Filipinos is hiring.
01:05 The target is to announce in December
01:09 something like 800,000 workers.
01:13 The demand for Filipino-English teachers is also high.
01:17 According to MECO,
01:19 Taiwan has a bilingual program
01:21 or teaching to become a language teacher
01:24 and that's why they are eager to get more teachers.
01:27 The number of teachers who are let pass
01:31 is an average of 72,000 NTD
01:34 so that's around 130,000 pesos a month.
01:37 The non-let passers,
01:40 those who are sent to cram schools,
01:43 are 40,000 NTD, so that's around 70,000 pesos.
01:47 Taiwan is small but it is one of the most deployed Filipino workers.
01:51 According to MECO, more than 150,000 Filipinos work here
01:56 and most of them are factory workers.
01:58 One of the successful people in Taiwan is Jeffrey.
02:02 He started as an operator in a semiconductor factory
02:06 until he was promoted as a line reader
02:09 and now he is a head robo-shooter
02:11 who is not only training Filipino workers
02:14 but also other nationalities.
02:17 They saw that Filipinos are so flexible
02:21 and they can do things so fast.
02:24 Because of his talent,
02:26 he was named as the best employee in Taiwan.
02:30 From the presidential palace, he said,
02:32 "Jeff, you were chosen by the presidential palace
02:35 and you will meet the president of Taiwan personally.
02:38 You will be awarded for the best employee of Taiwan."
02:41 I said, "Wow!"
02:43 From here in Taipei, Taiwan,
02:45 and for GMA Integrated News,
02:47 JP Soriano,
02:48 for 24 Hours.
