00:00 Just four months after the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 was no longer a global health
00:05 emergency, the agency is calling for action.
00:08 "COVID right now is infecting and reinfecting millions. What is really important is that
00:13 those who are most at risk for developing severe disease receive a boost or receive
00:18 an additional dose."
00:20 The WHO estimates that hundreds of thousands of people around the world are currently hospitalised
00:25 with the virus, in particular in Asia and the Middle East. But the number could in fact
00:31 be significantly higher due to an under-reporting of cases and its Director-General is urging
00:37 countries to better share information about its populations.
00:41 "Only 43 countries, less than a quarter of WHO member states are reporting this to WHO
00:49 and only 20 provide information on hospitalisations."
00:55 As the agency calls on those at risk to get a booster jab, its worry is that cases will
01:00 further increase as temperatures eventually lower in the northern hemisphere.
