Summer Transfer Window: Who could prove to be the best summer signing?

  • last year
The summer transfer window proved as hectic and expensive as ever with many shock moves and late drama as the days went by. So after all the negotiations, who could go on to prove the best summer signing?

00:00 The 2023 summer transfer window is complete, in Europe at least. Football clubs have scrambled,
00:09 spent too much, spent too little and almost certainly left deals agonisingly close to
00:14 the deadline day window. Why do we do it? We don't know. But what we do know is there's
00:19 plenty of winners and losers to wade through after a frantic few months.
00:25 Starting with Liverpool. Their rebuild seems to have accelerated at a pace that's chaotic
00:30 and slightly out of control. Change was needed after last season, especially in midfield.
00:36 But few would have expected both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to leave for Saudi Arabia this summer,
00:41 especially when other talismanic figures Roberto Firmino and James Milner also said goodbye on
00:48 free deals. A couple of players leaving like Henderson, Fabinho, you probably didn't want
00:53 to lose so just yet. Now all eyes obviously on Mo Salah whether he'll be off to Saudi or not.
00:59 Ian Clott and Fatih, that he won't be leaving. The stance is as of now Mo Salah's not up for sale.
01:05 Everton have barely escaped relegation in the last two Premier League seasons.
01:12 It's a club that's filtering significant funds into building an elite stadium
01:16 while letting the squad crumble around it. By the time their new home is ready,
01:20 there's a real chance the Toffees' everlasting relationship with the top flight is over.
01:26 They're definitely stronger than they are. Make no bones about it. They definitely are. They've
01:30 got better options. They've got proper battle for Donna Calvert-Lewin, I'd say better, coming in.
01:35 His debut was really eye-catching. Ran the channels, physicality, looked like he wanted
01:42 to scrap and fight for the ball and brought others into play. Overall, you probably look
01:46 at the window and you think, five out of ten for Everton to be honest with you. Defender and
01:52 another attacking option wouldn't have been sage for me. So having established clubs that may have
01:58 fallen short this summer, is there any standout names when thinking about the best transfer to
02:05 take place, considering both the value for money and how they may have benefited all parties involved?
02:11 The one that instantly leaps to my mind is James Madison at Tottenham. I mean,
02:15 I know he was around about 40 million or whatever and stuff, but he's not like he's old, 26. I mean,
02:19 still got a long time ahead of him, big future, probably can still continue to get better.
02:24 I would have said like James Madison, to be honest, for 30 million or so for Tottenham.
02:28 But I mean, he's not even played any games yet, but on paper and excitement levels,
02:33 I'm very biased here. I think it might well be Ansou Fati. I know he's had his injury issues
02:39 over the last year or so, and he's not quite hit the heights that the likes of Vinicius Junior and
02:44 co have that were likened to him. He's still a player who's got great ability. Just imagine him
02:49 in a deserby side that's creating so many chances. A few commonly brought up names and transfers
02:56 selected by journalists around the country who thoroughly believe they can go on to be stars
03:01 at their new clubs.
