We went down to King Tut’s where Oasis were discovered in 2009 to speak to promotor John Paul Mason about Oasis gigs in and around Glasgow before the band’s breakup in 2009.

00:00After 2002, I couldn't tell you exactly, but there was probably only somewhere in
00:07or around five to ten Oasis gigs after that in Scotland, if that. I know they did
00:13Murrayfield a couple of times and they did, I think they did Brayhead Arena,
00:17which was apparently not a great gig. You became less and less likely to be able to
00:21see them live, just because I think, obviously there was friction in
00:28the band that was going to end up in what happened in 2009 and it was on the
00:33cards for a while, so it was just kind of, I'm glad I got them at that time. I could
00:37have seen them even earlier than that if I'd been a wee bit more on the ball.
00:42In 94, the year I went to my first gig, so 30 years ago, which is wild, they played
00:47the Tramway in Pollock Shields, so it was part of this thing called Radio One
00:52Sound City. It was basically like Radio One's Big Weekend now, but every year
00:57they went to a different location or city and did this, like a series of shows
01:03from the city, so in 94 it was Glasgow and I remember I wanted to go and see
01:08this band Therapy and my mum phoned up, my mum phoned up for tickets for me and
01:13then she shouted through, she went, there's tickets, she was like, is it Therapy
01:17in Kerb Dog you want or the Boo Radleys in Oasis? And I was like, Therapy in Kerb Dog.
01:22So Therapy in Kerb Dog was on the Friday, Boo Radleys, with Oasis as support, was on
01:27the Sunday and later that year my uncle bought me Definitely Maybe for my
01:31birthday on CD and I was like, oh this is just that new band that everyone thinks are
01:37great and my uncle's obviously just got it as like a tokenistic, I'll get you this
01:42because this is the band that everyone's listening to, and then I listened to the
01:46album and I was like, oh no, I've made a terrible error, I should have gone and seen them
01:50when I had the opportunity and then, and then it just blew up so big, like Loch
01:55Lomond happened and I was just a bit too young, my mum would never let me go to Loch
02:00Lomond at 15 or whatever age I was, no chance, so I had to like, and there was a gig in
02:07Irvine Beach as well, I remember my mate Greeny from school went to that and it was
02:11in a tent at Irvine Beach, I think, I think it was maybe cast that were supporting, so
02:17it makes sense that cast are now supporting them next year at these big shows, as
02:23Richard Ashcroft from The Verve, The Verve actually had Oasis open for them like back
02:28in the day at the Cat House, they played the Cat House and then Oasis then came back and
02:33did two nights at the Cat House headlining, but they supported The Verve at the Cat House
02:38and supported The Verve quite a few places I think as well, so it's cool that they're
02:43giving that opportunity back to a guy like Richard Ashcroft who gave them a shot at the
02:50beginning of it all, so it's kind of, I don't know, karma, something like that, but yeah,
02:59a band that have just always been part of my life, been part of the fabric of my life
03:04and I've seen so many bands in here trying to be like Oasis, and then with the hair,
03:12the jacket, the trainers and everything else, countless bands, you can just see the influence
03:20so it's a massive deal that they're back. Did I think it would happen? We always spoke
03:28in here like, oh imagine if they got back together, do you think it's going to happen?
03:32And then there was some things that I saw and heard earlier on this year that was making
03:37me think, I think this might happen, you know, but something about those Definitely Maybe
03:42shows I was like, it's Mourning Gory anniversary next year, if ever they were going to do it,
03:48surely it would make sense to be next year, and then lo and behold it is.
